Speedy deletion of Francis Andersen[edit]

A tag has been placed on Francis Andersen requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Thanks for the note[edit]

You are right, for citing papers in books there is no alternative. That is a real superiority of the citation template - I use the other ones largely from habit. On speedy deletion, the main thing is for the article to indicate or assert possible notability somehow. Which yours did, even though the statements indicating it were not referenced. Most administrators consider being a prof at a major educational institution enough, but some don't, and some might not recognize some institutions. Things written by the person help indicate notability, but not nearly as much as things written about the person . In addition to the general notability guidelines WP:N and WP:BIO there are specialized notability guidelines like WP:PROF The more references the better.
