Yes, I created it to split off excessive material from the main article. ... Kenosis (talk) 19:20, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's material we need since we don't do this for the other countless protests held daily globally. sparkie 19:30, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

March 2010[edit]

You have been asked previously to sign your posts to talk pages with four tildes, and you removed the notice or warning. You have continued to post on various talk and discussion pages without using four tildes, but instead by your typing "sparkie." This makes it difficult for less experienced editors to tell who made the post, and difficult for them to reply on your talk page. If you continue to make unsigned posts on talk pages and discussion pages you may be blocked from editing, without further notice. Thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia, and please start signing your talk and discussion page posts. Edison (talk) 23:54, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I believe WP:SIG lets me have my signature this way. sparkie 05:10, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
However I can see how "sparkie" would be confusing so I'll extend it to my full name, like this. Now we're resolved. Sparkiest 05:12, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Your interpretation of WP:SIG is incorrect. You can use a signature which displays "sparkie" when your username is "sparkiest," as described at WP:SIG, but it is disruptive to type a name rather than using tildes or the signature icon from the toolbar. As I stated previously, it is difficult for less experienced editors to tell who made the post, and difficult for them to reply on your talk page, when a name is typed. Please comply with WP:SIG. Thanks. Edison (talk) 20:36, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am indeed typing for tildes, on this very sig. I'm using the raw signature option that the UI gives me to use. Sparkiest 21:11, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Here is an example of an alternate signature display, which not only makes it display in black but in a non-English alphabet:[1]. Clicking on the signature still takes the reader right to the talk page of the editor in question. Clicking on the typed "Sparkiest" does not. What is the "UI" to which you refer, and what do you mean by a "raw signature?" If you type four tildes, like ~~~~, then the needed link to your talk page will be created. Without that simple step, others are forced to look through the page history to be sure who posted a given comment. Thanks. Edison (talk) 21:16, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Preferences > User profile > Signature, I type "Sparkiest" in the box and click the button that says, "Sign my name exactly as shown. If unchecked, the contents of the box above will be treated as your nickname and link automatically to your user page. If checked, the above markup will be used for your name when you sign with ~~~ or ~~~~; including any Wiki markup, links, or other valid formatting that it includes.". If I saw that SIG said I had to link I would do it but I like the look of the plain link. Which section says I must link? If I see it, I will be happy to do it. Sparkiest 21:19, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
OK, I did some experimenting and see what you are talking about. If you check the box, then no link to your talk page is created. If you do not check the box, then a link is created, which is desired. You can code the signature so it appears black, as in the example I gave above. As the need to sign, per WP:SIG, note where the guideline says "Signing your posts on talk pages, both in the article and non-article namespaces, is a good practice, and facilitates discussion by helping identify the author of a particular comment. Other users can then navigate to a talk page and address their comments to the specific, relevant user(s). Discussion is an important part of collaborative editing, because it helps all users to understand the progress and evolution of a work. Signature use that is intentionally and persistently disruptive may lead to blocking under the disruptive editing policy." and "Any posts made to the user talk pages, article talk pages and any other discussion pages should be signed." What I am requesting is that you make your signature appear in black if you wish, with a variation from your user name if you wish, but that it be coded so it act as a link to your talk page or user page when it is clicked on. Thanks. Edison (talk) 21:34, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
More experimenting. It looks like you can get a signature in black that still links to your userpage (not talk page, some reason) I have never done much sig formatting, so you might want to check out Wikipedia:How to fix your signature, and you can use WP:SANDBOX to confirm it works with a link back to your talk page. (If it links to the user page, you will find folks inadvertently posting to your user page instead of your talk page.). Edison (talk) 21:58, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
