The ancient Scythians and Sarmatians spoke languages which fall within the Iranian branch of the Indo-Iranian language family, but they did not live anywhere near Iran, and it's quite possible that their ancestors never even lived in Iran, so that it would be misleading to simply label them as "Iranians".
