August 2008[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Janet Jackson, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Btw, we have the same first name! :) The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 05:40, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is no reason to be disappointed. I never implied your statement was false. but wikipedia poliy states everything added to wikipedia must be accompanied by a source. for instance:
"Jackson was listed by MuchMoreMusic's Listed at number 2, only behind her brother Michael, on the list of "Top 20 Artists Who Can Bust A Move" because of her top notch choreography and cited her evolution as an artist to be influencial."[citation needed]
Here, you listed the source which gave the title/record, but you failed to give a reference for the reader to find and read the original publication. In order to contribute constructively to wikipedia, you must learn how to properly references your additions with citations otherwise anything you add may automatically be removed. On another note, the addition of MuchMoreMusic could reasonable be removed since it is not a notable aspect of the Jackson's career. I'm not attacking you as a newcomer- these are rules all wikipedians follow. If you don't learn how to properly learn how to reference your contributions to wikipedia, they will eventually be removed by any one of a million editors on wikipedia based on policy. You're welcome. Remember to sign you messages by typing the (~) key 4 time in a row. Another reminder: just because information is factually accurate, does not necessarily mean its notable enough to be included in an article. People have to come to a consensus on certain material to see was is important and what isn't. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 08:38, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

using the talk page[edit]

Remember when you intend to leave someone a message you do so on their talk page, not their user page. Make sure you click the "discussion" tab at the top of the page first, then click "new section". Your last two messages you left on my display page rather than my talk page. No worries, though. Feel free to ask me any question you have about adding info or referencing.
