Norman Rockwell is the most well known author and artist who ever lived in the United States. Thomas Fogarty was Norman Rockwell's main teacher. Rockwell's Studio in Arlington burned to the ground right after The Four Freedoms were published. Rockwell, for his whole life was a professional artist.
