Wikilink at Leon Uris

Hi, welcome to Wikipedia. We don't use wikilinks for common words in articles, unless the article is about the word or its meaning. As it says at WP:Manual_of_Style/Linking#Overlinking, we don't link "Everyday words understood by most readers in context". I think that "surname" is such an everyday word. If you believe that some readers won't understand it, it would be better to just replace it by "family name" rather than sending them to another article to find out its meaning. The general idea is to convey the information to the reader with a minimum of complexity. Carry on editing! Zero^talk 08:49, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

I see you're interested in fixing typos on Wikipedia. You'll probably come across many articles where ancient works are cited. In particular, scholarly works in the 19th century often used only Roman numerals. Others used a combination of Roman and Arabic numerals; so what in modern texts might be written as Book 3, chapter 5 might, in an older work, be written Book iii, Ch.5; or III, 5; or iii.5. Thanks for your message Haploidavey! I always appreciate learning something new. And in this case I agree that reverting my edit was completely appropriate. However, if users are going to make a reference to ancient texts, then they should be written more clearly... much as you did in your explanation to me. You can be sure that I will be on the lookout for that type of citing in the future and NOT attempt to edit what is not a typo. All the best and happiness to you!

Formatting your userpage. ;-))

Dear SeaBeeDee,
Welcome to the Typo Team and thank you for joining us. I have just visited your userpage and would like to offer a couple of suggestions, for your consideration, which would make it easier to read:

• Grouping your userboxes:

1. replace {{userboxside|My userboxes|}} with {{userboxtop|My userboxes}}
   (by the way, note the removal of the unnecessary '|', just before '}}')
   
2. remove the blank lines between userbox templates
   
3. add {{userboxbottom}} immediately below the last userbox template.
   

This way, all your userboxes will be nested inside their container, on the right hand side of your page.

• Add a {{clear}} template before the ==Greetings== section header.
  

This will ensure that your text will no longer be interspersed with the userboxes, although that should also have been fixed by grouping the userboxes anyway.

It took some time, but I have made the changes to my user page that you suggested above. Thank you so much for the advice. :-)

Now if I could just figure out a few more things:

• how to properly "ping" another Wikipedian
• how to add a photo (from the Commons, or my own)
• how to make my name appear as a link when I sign something with 4 tildes
  

After that, I just might be ready to buckle down and write an article or something more complicated than I've been doing. :D<b4>

You're most welcome! Well done on adjusting your userboxes; your user page is looking good now. I took the liberty of relocating the userbox group inside the first section; this way, your userboxes appear alongside the prose which now occupies the area on their left. If you don't like it this way, then please forgive me and simply use the undo button to return the page to its former appearance.

The reason why your username does not appear as a link is because your signature is not set up as it should. When this is done, you'll also be able to ping other users successfully. To set up your signature^{(with the link to your talk page appearing in superscript)}, follow these steps:

1. Locate the Preferences tab at the top of your screen and click on it;

2. Scroll down to the Signature section; there you will see the Signature: field;

3. Copy the following code into that field:

[[User:SeaBeeDee]]^{([[User talk:SeaBeeDee|talk]])}

4. Make sure you check the box for Treat the above as wiki markup.

5. Don't forget to scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click the Save button.

This should do it; good luck, and please let me know how you got on; thanks. We'll talk about adding a photo later.

It was absolutely fine to relocate your userboxes ahead of your 'Greetings' section, of course. The important change was to remove the {{clear}} template, which was forcing that first section header to a new line under the userbox 'bottom'. @Patrick, I've made an irritating discovery on my user page: I can't edit anything other than my user boxes. I wanted to put a quick note on my page asking if anyone knows of a way to find articles without photos. And then I would like to learn how to find pictures to go with them. Antagonist VS inhibitor

Hello, are you refering to the concrete article where was my edit about antagonism? In general, there is no difference, however 'antagonist' is more accurate expression in relation with receptors. 'Inhibitor' is usualy connected with enzymes or ion-channels. I have no literature explaining this difference. @gladissk Thank you for your reply! Based on your explanation, and with a bit of research I *think* that I understand these actions a bit better. While diseases, and medicines are a strength of mine, admittedly pharmaceutical drug actions are a bit of a stretch for me, and on the outer rim of my wheel house, but your help is much appreciated! I feel that I have to give an extremely well deserved shout out to @JustBerry as well, for waving the proverbial admin magic wand for fixing my boo-boo when trying to move the above from my main page to my talk page. Userboxes

I hear you need help with userbox creation, if you do let me know what i can do to help! Ⓩⓟⓟⓘⓧ _Talk 18:10, 9 March 2019 (HTC)

I'd particularly would like to see a set of Userboxes to identify U.S. military members. A box, with the service branch and its traditional flag. I don't really know him, but maybe User:TonyTheTiger

might be on board with the idea. He has authored several articles on military related pages. And if memory serves, is part of a Wiki military project if we should need help. Thoughts?
