Hi. I've undone your recent merge of the Pollinator and Pollination articles, not because there's anything wrong with the end result, but because you bypassed a very important procedure - that is, alerting the editors of both articles that you planned to merge the two pages, to see how everyone felt about the merge (I think you realized this at the last minute, but telling editors after the fact "Oh, by the way, I merged this article today, I hope you don't mind" really isn't the preferred approach). For major article mergers (i.e., when they are not "stubs") there really needs to be a period of review and discussion, to see whether everyone involved is okay with the suggested merge. I'd ask you to PLEASE read the article WP:MERGE to familiarize yourself with the process before going ahead with any such major changes. One other thing to bear in mind is that changing "pollinator" to a redirect will turn a lot of "live" links into redirected links. When two articles with a long editing history are strongly connected but have a lot of non-overlapping links, the solution is often to have a section header that uses a "Main article: X" pointer so readers know that a lot of additional information is available on a different page. Myself, I tend to prefer this approach, and would urge you to consider it (that is, have a section header in the pollination article that says Main article: Pollinator; if nothing else, there is an advantage to having two normal articles rather than one very long article (e.g., look at the Bee article - it would be hopelessly long if it actually discussed each type of bee independently). My perspective is also as a professional pollination biologist, and I think there is enough to be said for pollination as a topic that is independent of a discussion of pollinators that I believe it's more useful to maintain them as two separate articles, and develop them accordingly. In other words, I think there should be a way to improve both articles that does not require them to be merged. I'm not on a lot these days, but if you'd like to discuss it, I'll try to be responsive. Dyanega (talk) 16:55, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've just made a few edits to restructure the article along the lines of what you had intended, but without merging (for now). Let me know what you think. Dyanega (talk) 16:52, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
