Photos[edit]

Hi, thanks for uploading and free licencing some great photos! Might I suggest uploading some of your photos to the Wikimedia Commons if you havn't considered doing so yet? It's usefull for making extra galleries or categories when we have more useful photos of a subject than are usually included in one article, and also the photos can be accessed to be used in other Wikimedia projects, such as the Wikipedias in other languages. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 03:02, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How is this image Fair use and GFDL?Geni 20:00, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

From before 1900.

"Fair use" and "GFDL" are quite different, so it can't be both. And public domain due to age is still a third thing. It is your responsibility to determine the status of any image you upload and mark it appropriately; if there's something you have trouble figuring out, ask. Cheers, -- Infrogmation 23:45, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

-It's Fair Use. GFDL is an error.

Penn City Hall

Hey. I saw your photo here and loved it, but found it a bit dark on my computer, so I took the liberty of downloading and brightening it up (with some more contrast as well) on my own computer. This is my first time editing an image, so please go and check to make sure I did it right and all; also, if you prefer the original file that is of course your choice especially since you are the photographer. Thanks! Ben Tibbetts 02:32, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

-Thank you. You did a nice job with it. RichardMarcJ

License tagging for Image:Sarah and james polk.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sarah and james polk.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 03:08, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Vandalizing user talk pages[edit]

Warning

Warning[edit]

You are not an admin and have no rights to put block notices on other user pages. If you continue like this, you will be blocked. --ArmadilloFromHell 02:27, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Again, as I said earlier, I am very sorry about this. I was not aware that this was an admin-only proceeding. It will not be repeated. Thank you for your notice. RichardMarcJ 02:28, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dealing with vandalism[edit]

Hi, Richard. To answer your question,

Excuse me, but what happened to the article[ about Dave (film)]? This is deplorable vandalism. How do we fix this? RichardMarcJ 01:59, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Click on the Page history button.
  2. Click on one of the (last) buttons to see the changes made in that edit; you can then step forward or backward from there if it's not the one you want. Or you can click on one of the (cur[rent]) buttons to see the cumulative effect of all edits after that one.
  3. Then go back to the history page and click on the time&date link to the last good version of the article.
  4. Click on Edit this page—you'll see a warning that "You are editing a prior version of this page."
  5. Put something like "reverting vandalism" in the edit summary, and hit Save page. Voila!—the page has been restored.

(Admins also have a shortcut procedure for reverting all the edits made by the last editor.)

Diane Farrell[edit]

Hi, I brightened up Image:DianeFarrell.JPG, though I couldn't improve the focus any. If you don't like it, just revert by clicking on (rev) next to your version on the image description page. —Angr 10:05, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vesuvius[edit]

There is a superb night-time picture of Mount Vesuvius taken by you in the Mount Vesuvius article, which gives a realistic feel to how the mountain looks at night. However, the caption describes it as being taken from Napoli. I am confused about this because there is no water between Vesuvius and Naples, and the view is looking at the mountain from the other side. E.g. if you look at the picture at http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/7/story.cfm?c_id=7&objectid=10366883, which is of the volcano photographed from Naples, the taller cone of Vesuvius is on the right hand side of the smaller peak of the wall of the Somma caldera; in your picture the cone is to the left of the Somma Caldera wall. My guess is that it was taken from the Sorrento Peninsula. I have changed the caption accordingly, if it is incorrect then please change it back. Best wishes, Jll 23:50, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much for taking the time to explain the caption. Best wishes, Jll 09:48, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:HPIM1258.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:39, 16 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. abf /talk to me/ 19:39, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image without license[edit]

Unspecified source/license for Image:Sr Helen Prejean.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sr Helen Prejean.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 03:56, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File:PennCityHall.png[edit]

Hi, as the original photographer for File:PennCityHall.JPG, the file has been moved to the Commons as File:PennCityHall.png. Please let me know which version you are happy with. The image is not as sharp as the edited photo made by Ben Tibbetts. Personally, if you can re-upload the original to the Commons as the same name, that would be great! Thanks! --AllyUnion (talk) 00:47, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
