"minus" notation in sectored lights[edit]

Hi there. your comment made me realize the light sector notation from professional lists of lights was unclear to most editors (and the presentation was in some times misleading), so I went over those I could easily find and corrected it. If you see this notation again, let me know and I'll correct it. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 07:46, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mingaud[edit]

Hey Piledhigheranddeeper, I didn't know you had created the article until I got the DYK notification. The situation is a bit of a muddle but no one's fault. You weren't aware of the existing content, and I sat on my ass for a long time. I was thinking I would build it to near FA level before posting. Unfortunately, the copyright attribution and clarity that you were merging content was far short of what is necessary (I don't mean that as a criticism, you attempted to give credit and I appreciate it!) but it requires linking to where the content comes from, and it must be made clear you are merging content, and the page it is being merged from would then have to remain forever in the user talk space so its edit history can be accessed. So given that muddle, I performed a history merge. The older content is more extensive and I will integrate the edits together soon (well relatively soon). Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 04:09, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Got your message, but I'm a bit buffaloed by it. Did you mean to send it to me? Does it refer to another article (I slightly tweaked Mingaud, I think)?

--Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 16:13, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. As you deduced, the message was intended for the user who posted the article.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:03, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors[edit]

Hi! Since you've been identified as an Awesome Wikipedian, I wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.

If that sounds like you and you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors during the current term, which started in January and goes through early May. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 17:45, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

SA-500D[edit]

Regarding your comment on the map in the article, "this (map) seems to be too much to include in an article about a spacecraft", the article is about a US National Historic Landmark. These articles typically have a map denoting where the landmark physically resides.

"a US"? A US what? Landmark? The text appears to be much more an engineering description than a landmark description. --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 20:21, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Whitney article[edit]

Thanks for contributing to the H. Whitney article. I made the link to Bob Bartlett without checking where it went. Woops! Thanks for correcting it to Robert Bartlett (explorer). Much better. Captain Bartlett was ALWAYS called Bob Bartlett, and published his books under that name, but he wasn't that other guy! Wildcatman99 (talk) 02:07, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer permission[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 11:26, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As one of the editors who has made improvements to the United States Bill of Rights article recently this notice has been left to inform you that it has been selected as the United States Wikipedians' Collaboration of the Month for June 2011. The goal this month is to get this article to Good Article standards or better by July 4th, 2011. You can also vote for next months article of the Month or submit a candidate for article of the month here. --Kumioko (talk) 02:23, 4 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the rationale you added to this image for Lance Wyman. The reason is that per Wikipedia:NFC#Images_2, this image already has its own host article. It is unnecessary to re-display it on Wyman's page, and the preferred mode is to link to that location when using non-free works. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 19:26, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You managed to find[edit]

(General William Tecumseh Sherman Monument) one of those interesting little speed bumps in wikipedia's rarely smooth road. If you check out the Smithsonian sculpture data base you will find that the inscription reads, "prefect". [1]

However, searching in another direction [2] we find it written as" perfect". I for one, vote for your edit. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 17:47, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. Both are, of course, secondary sources. The monument itself is the real source. It may be time for a little of the dreaded "original research"! --Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 17:53, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. There is User:Sarah S in Washington D.C. who is doing the Archives of American Art liaison. Perhaps it is time to drag her into the fray? Carptrash (talk) 19:09, 30 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ryerson Tomb[edit]

I saw your in-text question in Martin Ryerson Tomb on my watchlist. The sources I consulted didn't have any specifics about whether the depiction of Ryerson in the bust was young or old. In addition, the sources didn't say per se who paid for the bust but they did note that Martin Ryerson, Jr. commissioned the mausoleum and thus it was my assumption that the bust was part of that commission since it too was designed by Sullivan. I do not, however, have a source that explicitly says that, so I didn't add it in. Regardless, that doesn't mean that the information isn't available, as there were some other sources out there that I didn't have access to. Perhaps you could place your question on the talk page so that everyone is more likely to see it and we could possibly see about coming up with an answer (by all means, leave it in text as well). Cheers. IvoShandor (talk) 18:06, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

An award for you![edit]

Ada Lovelace Award
I, SarahStierch, hereby award Piledhigheranddeeper with the first Ada Lovelace Award for their tireless quality contributions about women in computing and technology. Thank you! SarahStierch (talk) 23:45, 15 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This was awarded for your contributions, large and small, to content related to the lives and work of the likes of Hedy Lamarr, Jean Bartik, Betty Holberton, and others. Again, this can include not only content improvement, but maintaining reference tags and general minor edits that go towards improving content, specifically those related to women and technology. Thanks again! SarahStierch (talk) 16:41, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

details, please[edit]

You've added a POV-neutrality box on the 43rd Battalion Virginia Cavalry Hard to agree or disagree, because we don't know what the POV box refers to. Surely not the whole page? Please cite on the discussion page which parts you think of as "rah-rah" in tone (note the POV box itself refers to a discussion on the discussion page which ain't there, at least not yet). And while we're at it, rather than just complain maybe one might lead by example: fix something 'rah-rah' on that page so we can see what was wrong with it.ElijahBosley (talk ☞) 14:03, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

i agree with your tag, the breathless tone is very 19th century. maybe some quote boxes from grant and sheridan are in order. (and i am from Virginia) far from the worst tag, maybe we should ban them all? Slowking4: †@1₭ 16:54, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
