License tagging for Commons images[edit]

Images such as Leite de Vasconcelos.jpg need to indicate the source and copyright status with an image tag applied to the description page indicating copyright status. For help on selecting or adding a tag, post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. See also Image use policy and Copyright tags. — 11:07, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Article policy[edit]

Disambiguation, moving and renaming articles[edit]

  • You moved the disambiguation page Louis Bastien to Louis Bastien (disambiguation). There's really no need for this, as Louis Bastien is the preferred place to have it. You would only move it to Louis Bastien (disambiguation) if one of the people or topics available were the primary topic. In cases like this where neither is particularly well known, one cannot be deemed primary. I've requested that the page move be reverted (I can't do it myself as blanking the page immediately afterwards meant is has a page history). SeveroTC 11:59, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion requests[edit]

Thanks. I created this article in error (I meant to make it a category instead) and have no objection to its deletion — Objectivesea (talk) 10:46, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CfD (Categories for Discussion) nomination[edit]

Contesting article deletion[edit]

To contest deletion of an article, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page explaining your position. To see the user who deleted the page, click here. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. »xytram« talk 10:43, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dodgy wikilinks[edit]

Hi there, I've just seen your work at Gresham Professor of Music. Unfortunately, only one link (Henry Wylde) appears to be correct. The rest are either red links or articles about someone else with the same name. Could you check on this sort of thing in future? Cheers, JackyR | Talk 18:29, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, JackyR, for checking this out. I have removed a few of the dead links and started a stub on Jno S. Stevens, known at birth as Richard John Samuel Stevens. I'll try to clean up some more as I have time. — Objectivesea (talk) 11:46, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nice work on the cryptic Mr Stevens! How was he usually referred to, do you know? "Jno S Stevens" is shown in Gresham College's records, but this is surely a convenience. If you find a more-used name for him, you can use the "move" tab to create a new article name (takes history with it and creates redirect). Best, JackyR | Talk 16:07, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanto-related articles[edit]

I suggest that Bertilo Wennergren is notable not just because he is the subject of articles in the Esperanto and Swedish Wikipedias, but because he meets at least three criteria suggested for notability:

  1. He has been the subject of a credible independent biography (Gramatikisto, rokisto aŭ perversulo?, by Sonja Kisa).
  2. He has received significant recognized awards or honours (Esperantist of the Year for 2006)
  3. He has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in his or her specific field (author of a 700-page scholarly reference grammar of Esperanto, Plena Manlibro de Esperanta Gramatiko)

By the way, Wennergren makes his book freely available for download on the Internet. — Objectivesea 00:44, 4 Dec. 2007 (UTC)

Do you speak Esperanto? Edmond Privat was brought over from the Vikipedio. I did what I could, but I don't speak Esperanto. BTW, great job on the notability argument. — Dlohcierekim 01:00, 4 Dec. 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind words. My ability to speak and write Esperanto is extremely limited, unfortunately, but texts written by others are relatively easy for me to understand because of their similarity to other languages with which I am familiar. (I was born in Denmark to Norwegian and Danish parents, have now learned English to a professional level, and have studied French and German.) Obviously, my reading ability in foreign languages is greater than my productive ability, so I would not attempt to translate into Esperanto, at least for now. I have made an attempt to improve the Edmond Privat article. — Objectivesea 10:47, 4 Dec. 2007 (UTC)

— Objectivesea (talk) 21:56, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jørgen Rischel[edit]

Thanks for expanding and improving the article on Jørgen Rischel! — ·Maunus·ƛ· 04:40, 2 Sept. 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, Magnus, for your kind words. I first found out about Prof. Rischel through the Wikipedia article Greenlandic language, which inspired me to try to learn more about his life. The information I learned from the tribute essay composed by his friendly fellow linguists was so interesting that I felt it deserved the wider audience of Wikipedia. He seems to have been a genuinely wonderful person, and I am sorry I never had the opportunity to meet him. I will try to fill out the article a bit more as I have the time.
Warm regards, Objectivesea (talk) 08:56, 2 Sept. 2008 (UTC)

He was a wonderful human being and an excellent linguist. I had the chance to meet him a few times myself when I was studying. — ·Maunus·ƛ· 13:17, 2 Sept. 2008 (UTC)

Claude McKinney[edit]

I was looking over Claude McKinney and noticed you had put the article in two stub categories. The preferred way of doing this is to add a stub template at the bottom of the article so it will be noticed by other editors. You may want to take a look at Wikipedia:Stub for details, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types for a comprehensive list of stubs. Rklear (talk) 07:39, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the hint. I'll follow this advice in future. Objectivesea (talk) 01:54, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pain Hill Cemetery[edit]

Hello! I search images of the Pain Hill Cemetery in Toronto, as my kin (brother of my grandfather) here was buried in 2008. Canst you point? Doncseczznánje 19:09, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you mean:
Pine Hills Cemetery
625 Birchmount Road
Scarborough, Ontario, Canada M1K 1R1
Telephone 001-416-267-8229
I looked at Google Maps, but saw no Panoramio images linked to the cemetery. Perhaps you can contact them directly.
Good luck to you. Objectivesea (talk) 10:17, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Doncseczznánje 10:18, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Kim J. Henriksen has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No apparent indication of notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Black Kite 13:53, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Kim J. Henriksen requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. — dαlus Contribs 03:15, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
