May 2021[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. YODADICAE👽 22:17, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@YODADICAE: The vast majority of articles about Adolf Hitler use his full name.--OZZY19455 (talk) 22:41, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Most articles about Josef Stain use his full name as well, but we also have "Stalin's ten blows", "Stalin's first government", "Stalin's speech of 19 August 1939" and others. Maybe some of these should be moved, I'm not saying otherwise, but they're established where they are, and the community gets to decide what the acceptable WP:COMMONNAME is for an article, through an RM discussion on the article talk page. So, please don't go moving Hitler's Armenian reference or other articles without a consensus to do so. Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:50, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Be WP:BOLD, but not that bold[edit]

Hi. You've been here for 1 month and have 392 edits, 66 of them to an article you wrote. It's really much too early in your Wikipedia career for you to be moving articles in a controversial subject area to new titles without discussion. Please don't do this anymore, instead, start a WP:Requested move (RM) discussion on the talk page of the article you think should be re-titled. This will avoid disruption to the project and will be easier for everyone involved, including yourself. Thanks. Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:43, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I looked at the category of Adolf Hitler and saw that most of the articles included his full name so I thought that those that did not should include his full name, that is all.--OZZY19455 (talk) 22:45, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that's reasonable, but now you've been told that there are procedures and they should be followed, especially for articles involving controversial subjects. Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:51, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, I personally think that your move of Oaths to Hitler to "Oaths to Adolf Hitler" was justified, since it is not a particular expression, as "Hitler's prophecy" is, simply a description. I would advise that you start a RM discussion on the talk page suggesting the move and see what happens. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:03, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
