Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to Swami Vivekananda, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. DS-alert[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Notice of discretionary sanctions on caste articles[edit]

The Wikipedia community has permitted administrators to impose discretionary sanctions on any editor who is active on any page about social groups, explicitly including caste associations and political parties, related to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. Discretionary sanctions can be used against an editor who repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, any expected standards of behavior, or any normal editorial process. If you engage in inappropriate behavior in this area, you may be placed under sanctions, which can include blocks, a revert limitation, or a topic ban. The discussion leading to the imposition of these sanctions can be read here.

Please familiarise yourself with the information page at Wikipedia:General sanctions/South Asian social groups.

September 2021[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Ekdalian. You have been adding or changing content in an article, Bengali Brahmins, but you didn't provide a reliable source. You are still providing Raj-era source in spite of being informed that such sources are not accepted in caste articles as per long term consensus here in English Wikipedia. Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia or unexplained reverts like you have done. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Bengali Brahmins; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Thank you. Ekdalian (talk) 13:50, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello I was unable to find reliable sources from the post-colonial era as most of them were not accessible. My intention was not to involve in disruptive editing. I am just against the removal of existing accessible references. However, I found two articles. Kindly look into the following articles and add them.

PAÑCA GAUḌA AND PAÑCA DRĀVIḌA: CONTESTED BORDERS OF A TRADITIONAL CLASSIFICATION Madhav M. Deshpande Raychaudhuri, Tarak Chandra and Raychaudhuri, Bikash 1981. The Brahmans of Bengal: A Textual Study in Social History. Calcutta: Anthropological Survey of India, Government of India.Mikemarssss (talk) 14:42, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Article block for disruptive editing[edit]

You have been blocked from editing Bengali Brahmins for two weeks for persistently adding content without a reliable source. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Bengali Brahmins[edit]

@Mikemarssss: Caste-related pages are often protected due to obvious abuse. You can Request at the Talk:Bengali Brahmins of Which Topic You Can Add in The Bengali Brahmin , Anyone who is WP:Extended confirmed can edit the page. Use the talk page to get agreement for any changes you want to make. You can use the Template:Edit extended-protected on the talk page. Someone who has the ability to make the change can then act on your request, if it has consensus.Best Regards. Jiggyziz 🇮🇳Any Help🇮🇳? Contact Me. 09:14, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
