Help with retrying an entry

Hi there. Following up to an article draft that was moved by you in in January 2015 and then deleted. The individual still has no Wikipedia page and so I would like to retry submitting an entry. Wiki advises before retrying to contact the user who performed the action listed on sandbox page. Would appreciate input and guidance as to what made original article unacceptable to Wiki. Thank you. Nanos1066 (talk) 17:27, 22 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello @Nanos1066:, I didn't delete it, I just Declined it as unready. Before you can proceed, you either need to make a new draft from scratch, carefully following the rules of WP:Notability (people) and citing your sources for every single fact, or you can go to WP:REFUND and ask them to undelete your draft so you can improve it. If you get it undeleted, come and remind me and post a link here and I can summarize what you need to fix. But before you do anything, read WP:Notability (people) and ask yourself "does this person clearly qualify for an article?" because if they don't meet those base criteria, they simply cannot have an article, so it pays to check first. Disambiguation link notification for October 12

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Vacuum cooling, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Phase change. Hi, good day 😁☺. Pls I didn't fully understand the reason you gave me. Do you mind explaining further pls? Is there a particlar link you want me to remove?

Hello @Tobexi:, you don't need to remove anything, you need to take the sources you listed at the bottom and turn them into footnotes. See WP:REFB for how to code them as footnotes (it's pretty easy once you understand it). For any fact you include, you need a clear footnote that says "here is where I got the fact from", otherwise the readers have no way to check your facts and they can't trust the article.
Also, try not to cite unofficial blogs, catalog listings, sales or music download sites. Those things don't prove Smeezy is famous which is what you need to do. The best thing is articles in music magazines, newspapers, etc that talk about Smeezy and why he matters. You need to show experts discussing him and his significance. See WP:Notability (music) for the exact things you need to prove to justify an article. Hope this helps! MatthewVanitas (talk) 21:40, 18 October 2016 (UTC)h

Thanks so much for taking your time to explain. I really appreciate that. I do know how to code the footnotes. In fact I coded one into the date of birth. I just assumed there was no need to code the rest into the page but now that you've requested it. I'll make sure I do that tomorrow. But, pls, how do i differentiate official blogs from unofficial ones cos the ones i used are quite trust-worthy so you kind of lost me there. When I request for re-review, are you going to be the one to review it? Just curious cos if you're going to be the one then I wont need to re-submit, I'll just keep showing you my drafts, asking for corrections, till I get it right and then you finally give the page a pass.

Hello @Tobexi:, don't worry about waiting on me to pass it, just click Resubmit when you're done improving it so a new reviewer can look at it.
I will say though, it might still be too early for a page about Smeezy if only amateur/non-professional blogs are covering him (maybe a better term than "official"). If he's not getting any coverage in Nigerian newspapers, or music magazines, or whatever else, he might not meet Notability yet. Best way to tell, give a read-through of WP:Notability (music) and that lists out different conditions a musician can meet that would make them a valid topic for an article.

Thanks so much. I can understand your reasons now. No need to apply for another review. Would just move on. Thanks so much for the help. You've been a fantastic guide. Bye. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tobexi (talkcontribs) 22:16, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

i would like to know why my article get rejected?

please help me to know why my article rejected

Hello @AFAZARI MAHIRE PARFAIT:, did you read the guideline WP:Notability (people)? You have not provided any evidence meeting that requirement. The subject must meet those standards to qualify for an article, and it appears that subject is not famous enough to have an article. Wikipedia is not like Facebook where "anyone" can have a page, it's for neutral, objective articles, it is not a place to post a personal profile. MatthewVanitas (talk) 19:13, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:22, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Request on 09:20:21, 27 October 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by Diamend

Second message: I have just read more about wikipedia articles and have realised that my article does not meet criteria for wikipedia articles due to the fact I may have to use original material and I may have a possible conflict of interest. The main reason I wanted to have something about A.J.Coles on Wikipedia is because I know that his interest in and writing about the Devon dialect is of use to others who have an interest in language and dialect. He was also a well known character in the South West and his books, I was reliably informed by a vintage bookseller, are requested and sent to America, where there is some interest in his work. I would like to know if it will be possible to create a short article that includes no bias or original research and can be sourced suitably so that if someone googles 'Jan Stewer ' or 'Devon dialect' they will be directed to the article, and therefore discover the wealth of Devon dialect work that was published. Unfortunately most of this work is not available on the internet due to the historical nature of his work.

My question is, am I correct in thinking I should be creating a Wikipedia article or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks again for your time, I am reading as much as I can to help me understand wikipedia, your input is much appreciated. Diamend (talk) 09:20, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

20:32:22, 27 October 2016 review of submission by Rvilladiego

MatthewVanitas,

Thanks for taking the time to review this article. I feel this article includes better and more solid and widely recognize references for Ricardo Villadiego. The very fact that he built the very first company that has been able to achieve global reach from an undeveloped country like Colombia means a lot to new entreprenuers that dream of building a global company from undeveloped countries.

I hope that you can take in consideration the extensive references provided by this new article.

Rvilladiego (talk) 20:32, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

Mathew.

I strongly recommend that you use the article that I submitted yesterday on Ricardo Villadiego to review. It contains more widely and recognize external sources . I also think that the very fact that He has created a company that has acquired global reach in such a competitive market like cybersecurity from an undeveloped country like Colombia is notable enough as many entreprenuers from this countries dream of building a global company from this countries and this is an inspiration for them that ultimately will make the world better by improving this regions.

Lancaster Memorial

Hi MatthewVanitas,

Thanks for reviewing and publishing by article Lancaster Memorial (Beuningen, the Netherlands) so fast. I saw that you also transferred the whole editing history of the sandbox to the newly published article. Is this common practice? I prefer to start the article after publishing with a clean history.

Regards, Take Mirrenberg (talk) 07:30, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

Hello @Take Mirrenberg:! It is preferred to have the history of the Draft article move to the new article so we can see how it developed, and technically it's required if anyone other than you touched the sandbox before it became an article, since otherwise it'd be removing credit from a contributor. Moving the whole Draft over is pretty standard practice. Nice work, it looked strong as submitted and I didn't want it to get lost in the shuffle of unready articles. Thanks! MatthewVanitas (talk) 23:53, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
Ok, I got it. I appreciate the fast lane. Take Mirrenberg (talk) 08:56, 30 October 2016 (UTC)

23:11:23, 31 October 2016 review of submission by Rachel Wallis

Hi Matthew, I just wanted to make sure my article was still awaiting re-review. I re-submitted it on October 8th. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Peter_hobbs_composer Kind regards, Rachel Wallis ˜˜˜˜

Hello @Rachel Wallis:, you are indeed still in the queue, we're just really backlogged. I did a tiny bit of cleanup formatting for you so it'll be easier for your next reviewer. MatthewVanitas (talk) 23:14, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

Wonderful. Thank you very much.

˜˜˜˜ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rachel Wallis (talkcontribs) 23:18, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

@Rachel Wallis:, that said, your draft only has a couple of citations; you'd make a much more convincing case for Hobb's notability (see WP:Notability (music)) if you cite more newspapers or magazines discussing him, and also optimally show he gets coverage not just in his local area. Newspaper articles, magazine articles, discussions of him in books or scholarly papers? I suggest fleshing that out while waiting in queue. MatthewVanitas (talk) 23:24, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
@MatthewVanitas:

I can do that. Thanks for the suggestion. ˜˜˜˜

@Rachel Wallis:, give WP:Notability (music) a quick read if you can, that'll make it much clearer what sort of achievements would push Hobbs into the indisputable "this person needs an article" territory. Establishing Notability is the core, the rest is all just styling. MatthewVanitas (talk) 23:39, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

What is a "Different Wiki?"

(talk) What do you mean by "different wiki?" You said my article may be suitable for a different wiki, what does that mean? Could you link me to an example, or give me a push in the right direction? — Preceding unsigned comment added by RZWILL894 (talkcontribs) 05:24, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello @RZWILL894:, there are tons of sites (many with "wikia") in the name, that are user-submitted compilations of articles. There are wikias for video games, movies, hobbies, etc. and they all have different requirements for their readers. I don't know specifically which ones would apply for you, but honestly just google around and see if something jumps out at you, maybe there's a wiki for your city or state for local articles? MatthewVanitas (talk) 05:29, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

@MatthewVanitas: Thank you, I will do that!

@MatthewVanitas: One more thing. I hear what you are saying that you believe the paper needs to have national attention in order to be significant for wikipedia, but i urge you to visit https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Spartana and tell me how that got approved, but mine did not?

Hello @RZWILL894:, The_Spartana was written almost a decade ago, and a lot of weak articles get lost in the shuffle. I've submitted it for deletion since as you correctly note it doesn't meet WP:Notability. Thanks for pointing it out. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:45, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

@MatthewVanitas: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Galleon What about this? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sagamore_(Brookline_High_School) and this?

@RZWILL894:, any article you find that doesn't meet Notability, feel free to paste the following code at the top: {{subst:proposed deletion|concern=Does not meet [[WP:Notability]].}} Just make sure you understand Notability, and here's the simplest explanation:

Articles generally require significant coverage

in reliable sources

that are independent of the topic.
So feel free to Propose Deletion for anything that doesn't meet Notability. Cheers! MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:52, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Rmm

I effectively just declined your speedy deletion nomination of Rmm by reverting to the underlying disambiguation page. You should review the history of a page prior to nominating for speedy deletion to see if the page has been changed to its current state. In this case an IP overwrote the DAB page with an article about a non-notable company. -- GB fan 12:02, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Crossed edits

Hello,

It appears we crossed edits with Draft:Thailand Royal Rainmaking Project - I declined the draft because it does not have sufficient reliable sources and should be merged into the article cloud seeding. It looks like you accepted it while I was working on the decline. I'm not confident this article should be in the mainspace, how would you like to handle it? The draft still exists here since we crossed edits. Garchy (talk) 20:50, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello @Garchy:, give me a moment to see if I can pull more sources; I do think the concept meets WP:Notability, has tons of media coverage and mentions in books. I'll also advise the author to flesh it out a little. It could be a better draft, but it's certainly a valid article. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:55, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Reg Tu Maza jeev

Dear sir I have been writing article on Tu Maza Jeev which has not been accepted and the reason is about notability For your kind information about my country it has a variety of castes and religions and we all have equal status in all aspects. Tu Maza jeev is a regional film which has been released already and it is in the East Indians language (official language of people of Mumbai, india) Here it is known among the common people and it has been a hit film in our community. I have been trying very hard to expand the reach of Wikipedia to the common local people and about notability I don't think so it may effect your guidelines as the government here has given the necessary permissions for the film. My sincere request is to let the article shine on Wikipedia and if anyother edits about expansion of article it will be done within short span of time Don't hesitate to reply me here or on my talk page about the whole matter... regards Tiven gonsalves 06:01, 5 November 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tiven2240 (talkcontribs)

New Page Review needs your help

Hi MatthewVanitas,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

New Page Reviewer granted

Hello MatthewVanitas. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as mark pages as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. — xaosflux Talk 23:32, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Draft:Bring Back British Rail requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Draft redirect???

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. New Page Review - newsletter

Hello MatthewVanitas,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 813 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Getting the tools we need - 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey: Please vote

With some tweaks to their look, and some additional features, Page Curation and New Pages Feed could easily be the best tools for patrollers and reviewers. We've listed most of what what we need at the 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey. Voting starts on 28 November - please turn out to make our bid the Foundation's top priority. Please help also by improving or commenting on our Wishlist entry at the Community Wishlist Survey. Many other important user suggestions are listed at at Page Curation.

Request on 01:57:12, 26 November 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by NetPlay525

Hello, I would like to try and revise the article I submitted to meet your guidelines, but I can't seem to find it. Is there a way to retrieve my submission so that I can edit it without having to start completely from scratch?

Thank you.

NetPlay525 (talk) 01:57, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello @NetPlay525:, normally a deleted draft you can get back by requesting at WP:REFUND, but in your case it says the draft was deleted because it's an "unambiguous copyright infringement" of IMDB. If you dispute that allegation, you can ask at WP:REFUND for the draft to be restored to you. If it was just a copy-paste from IMDB, they might be able to email you the draft, but they won't repost a copyright violation on Wikipedia itself even as a draft. Hope this helps! MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:07, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi There, Just FYI, this article had two references when you tagged it with BLPPROD. I have removed the tag now. Hitro talk 18:28, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Requests for undeletion

Good day, Sir! I need your help to undelation of GESTR ROOMS page. Sra30 (talk) 13:20, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

You can request that an article be undeleted and moved to your personal drafting space by posting a request at WP:REFUND. We will not publish the draft article until it is encyclopedic, which means no advertising/promotion, etc. Hope this helps! MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:44, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello! Many weeks passed since the article was re-written and I would like to ask you to re-review it again and publish it if it meets all the guidelines. The only case was to add reliable sources which was done. Waiting for your response, thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 176.104.52.102 (talk) 10:24, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Sorry @SipleDailyUser:, the queue is really backed up at the moment, but someone will get to you as we work through the backlog. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:52, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Thank you very much! Waiting — Preceding unsigned comment added by SipleDailyUser (talkcontribs) 07:40, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello! I have a question. You asked me to add reliable sources and I did the required task, but Dodger67 (another moderator) now said the following : "This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Please rewrite your submission in a more encyclopedic format. Please make sure to avoid peacock terms that promote the subject." - can you help me solve the problem?
