Disambiguation link notification for September 29

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Walter Pfeffer Dando, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Palace Theatre. diplomatic society of st gabriel

Dear Matthew; I would be most thankful if you could just go ahead and create an article on the diplomatic society of st Gabriel. sincerely William Weiss — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amb weiss (talkcontribs) 15:38, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello, we have a really clear policy, Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). If your organization meets that benchmark, it can have an article. Your current draft has no WP:Sourcing whatsoever, is not formatted as a Wikipedia article, and does not show clear evidence of meeting Notability. Neither I nor any other reviewer is going to approve an article that's not ready just because someone asks us. You can either bring the article up to standards/format (provided that it does indeed meet Notability), and we're happy to help you with that and provide feedback, or don't. None of the reviewers cares about this organization more than you do, so you have to be the one to polish it, with our feedback. Hope this clears it up, and I strongly suggest you read the Notability policy I linked as it will make our requirements very clear. MatthewVanitas (talk) 16:17, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Mike Murphy bio

Hi Matthew,

I see you declined the bio I wrote for Mike Murphy. The reason I wanted to add a bio for Mike Murphy is that he is listed in a Wikipedia article with no other info about him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_for_All_Tour.

Please read the above Wikipedia article about the Bee Gee's One for all Tour and then you might think the bio is a good idea. I hope so. I added the wikipedia article as a reference, I rather that the One for all article would refer you to the bio on Mike Murphy, maybe you can fix that, if you agree to allow it.

Thank you and Best regards, Cathy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cjmoran (talkcontribs) 23:49, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello Cathy, this will be much clearer if you read the policy Wikipedia:Notability (music). It explains what level of coverage of Murphy the article must include. If Murphy has enough stuff written about him in news articles, books of music history, etc. then he merits an article and we'll happily steadily work you through the process of tuning up your draft. If other people have not written substantively about a person, said person can't have an article. Note other Wikipedia articles are not "references", they are WP:Wikilinks (blue clickable text). Blogs, forums, Facebook, etc. don't count as references. Again, please read Wikipedia:Notability (music) and it will save you and us a ton of time. Thanks! Article Rejected

Hi Matthew,

My name is Pat, I was wondering why you rejected Arthur Smirnov's article. Can you please give me advices on what has to be done in order to get it published? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.10.155.38 (talk) 21:57, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

Did you read the large pink box at the top of the article? Please read the instructions there first, and then tell me if anything is unclear. You have to read the advice we give you before you ask for advice, but I'm happy to advise after you look at my explanation in the pink box. MatthewVanitas (talk) 22:02, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

Draft:The Toy Soldiers (film)

MatthewVanitas,

Would you please take a look at the Draft:The Toy Soldiers (film) page that you declined a couple of weeks ago. I believe I have fixed the notability issue with sources like the LA Times and New York Times among others. Also, I am no longer using IMDB as a source. The draft has been re-submitted. I would also like to add pictures to enhance the page, if it is approved.

Thank you very much for all your time!

Rejection: Tearce Kizzo

Hi Matthew --

I will endeavor to get additional sources, but Discogs and AllMusic are both considered to be valid sources for credits, are they not? Also, there is a Wikipedia article regarding one of the many tracks this guy is credited with writing & producing, as referenced in the piece "Can't Stop Me" by Afrojack & Shermanology. I'm a bit new to editing these articles, so any guidance as to what you think constitutes a valid reference would be helpful. Thank you! -- EDIT: I saw the box you posted on my talk page just now, will do that but also leaving this here in case you have any off-the-top advice? thank you again! Loudersoft (talk) 02:34, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello Loudersoft, so far as your questions:
  • We're not necessarily sayins that Discogs and AllMusic are inaccurate, we're saying that just showing credits does nothing to indicate that a given musician is worth writing about. I strongly advise you take a quick second to read the brief version of our Notability requirement: WP:42. Basically, it doesn't matter if "Bob Jobobson" is listed on the credits of 10,000 albums; Wikipedia doesn't write about him unless other reliable news media, academics, etc have found him worth writing about. That's how an encyclopedia works, we don't dig up new facts about someone who's not yet famous, we compile existing published facts from other print authorities.
  • So far as his being on a track which has it's on WP article, the standard reply is WP:Notability is not inherited. You must provide evidence that Kizzo is Notable on his own, not just associated with some other thing which is famous.
  • Definitely read WP:Notability (music) and that will clear up 95% of your questions.
Hope this helps, thanks for checking in! MatthewVanitas (talk) 19:09, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

I need help on making this article, can you help me on that? Norozco1 (talk) 23:35, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Well, right now you have footnotes without any content at all, so it's hard to know what you're even writing about. I strongly suggest you read WP:Your first article. Note in particular, read WP:Lead section, which explains how you should concisely introduce your subject in the very beginning. MatthewVanitas (talk) 00:06, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll start from there and see how it turns out, Ok! :-) Norozco1 (talk) 00:59, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

17:28:55, 6 October 2014 review of submission by Latency24

Matthew -

I am a bit lost. Wireless Maritime Services was the first company to put cellular service on cruise ships. Today it is the market leader with service on over 140 ships worldwide with 360+ roaming agreements. I purposefully tried not to make it marketing piece so I need some guidance as to what the shortcomings were. As an example, the references were to just two of the press releases from the company's web page. I am unclear as to what other references you would be looking for. Thanks in advance.

16:58:49, 6 October 2014 review of submission by Courtney.Curtis15

'Spinney's Restaurant rests on the edge of the beach toward Fort Popham. It is a seasonal seafood restaurant open May through September. Spinney's is run by Glenn and Diane Theall. Patrons may sit in house, or out on the deck over-looking the beach.'

Hello, I am wondering why my piece about Spinney's restaurant was declined? Could you please explain to help me understand if there are any mistakes or flaws. --Courtney.Curtis15 (talk) 16:58, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello Courtney.Curtis15! Hmmmm, because it's not an article about the restaurant? To be blunt, you simply ripped-off Popham Beach and added like a couple sentences about the restaurant to the very end. If you want to write about the restaurant, write about the restaurant, not several paragraphs about the beach and then a mention. Start a new draft, start out with "Spinney's Restaurant is located in Popham Beach, Maine, United States, and was founded in 19XY..." something like that.
That said, before even starting, read WP:Notability and get your sources together. A restaurant article will not publish unless you provide clear footnotes to serious news/academic coverage of the restaurant. That is, it has to be famous, not just in the local area and not just for one time it caught fire or something. If it's not famous, per our policy WP:Notability, we don't need an article about it. Hope this helps! MatthewVanitas (talk) 17:13, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

My apologies, I did not rip off anything though. I simply stated about Spinney's restaurant which resides at Popham beach. The article is about Popham beach. I don't understand how the camp ground is any more famous than the restaurant. --Courtney.Curtis15 (talk) 17:48, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Maybe "rip off" was kind of harsh, but you did just simply copy-paste an existing article (without attribution) and added just a couple of sentences, with no WP:Sourcing at all.
And I'm not at all saying the restaurant isn't famous, I'm just noting that you did not provide us any sourcing attesting its fame. I took at look at GoogleBooks, and it appears that the restaurant may be widely noted enough (and not just in tourist guides, but in books of Maine history, etc) to merit its own article.
If you want to write a Spinney's draft, I'm fine to help you, to show no hard feelings. If you want to write about Spinney's, go to Wikipedia:Article wizard, click the "new article" button, and start right out with "Spinney's Restaurant is...". Now, remember, you can only include facts that you can cite. So go dig up all the articles/mentions of Spinney's you can (definitely check GoogleBooks), even paste the links at bottom of your article so you don't lose any. If you find a cite that says Spinney's was founded in 1923, then write "...founded in 1923" and make a nice WP:Footnote showing what book/article you got the fact from. For every fact in the article, a reader should clearly see "says who?" answered for the.
You raise a good point that Popham Beach is poorly footnoted, so I've marked it as needing improvement. I'd be glad to help you clean up that article too. Just ping me here on my Talk page if you need advice, but do make sure you read (or at least skim) WP:Notability and WP:Referencing for beginners since those will answer most of your questions.
Sorry if I came across harsh, let's get back on the right foot and make some good articles with rock-solid facts. MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:01, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Mekinges Conner

Than you Matthew for helping me organize my article. You need to know that English is my second language and I need help. To compound the problem I am a Mathematician, my brain is not structure to to be a good writer. I would appreciate any help you can give me by been specific. You set a set of question which are very reasonable, the why, when, who, how, etc. You know the who and the when, I am going to tell you the why and the how.

The reason why I wanted to have an article about Mekinges Conner is exactly because no much is written about her. She was extremely important in Indiana history because without her influence as an Indian princess it would have been difficult for the first pioneers to settle in the area. They would have not accepted the white men so quickly.

She was the liaison between the natives and the white men, something every article I run across about William Conner ignores or diminish. I happen to have an abstract of the title of a property that William Conner owned in Noblesville, Indiana. The abstract starts with the registration of land in 1822. The same abstract includes the trial about William Conner's estate between his indian children and his white children. Needless to say the indian children lost the trial. I just told you the why, the how is by integrating her husband into the indian society.

Since my problem sims to be the introduction, I am going to my comments here. I provably did not have a good introduction because I wanted to avoid accusing William Conner of using Mekinges for pure economical purposes and once he was established he got read of her. He was an interpreter and at the Treaty that expel the Delaware Indians from Indiana, something he favored. I fill no justice have been given to Mekinges and she needs to be recognize.

Changing the subject, I also need help navigating taking the many rools I have to follow. Sincerely, Marice — Preceding unsigned comment added by MariceEttlinCaro (talkcontribs) 19:01, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi Matthew. You recently declined my draft on Iqbal Ansari due to citation references. I am confused about how to reference the article since there isn't much documentation of Pakistani entertainment history online. I have mostly wikipedia links as references or Youtube links to his work. He is my father and I am posting on his behalf so its an authentic account. But I don't know how to build references when there is hardly any interview or other acceptable sort of documentation online.. what do i do? please help.Narimanansari (talk) 19:44, 6 October 2014 (UTC) nariman

Referring to my draft: Draft:Iqbal Ansari, would these be eligible sources?

Hello User:Narimanansari! Of your above sources, Dawn and Tribune are undoubtedly WP:Reliable sources. The .gif image I would say no because it has no context, and generally Wordpress websites (Harooniaz) are not admissible. The other pages I'm not sure about since I don't know Pakistani showbiz journals, but apply your intuition and use only the ones that are seen as serious entertainment news websites.
I fixed a lot of the formatting on your draft, so please note what I did so you do not undo it. Most particularly, only use WP:Wikilinks to other Wikipedia articles, do not footnote them. Footnotes are just for outside sources which prove a particular fact. I would strongly encourage you to read WP:Referencing for beginners which explains how best to do footnotes.
What you need to do with your sources, is apply them as footnotes to whatever facts in the article they support. If you cannot support a given fact with a source, you must remove it, as we do not allow unsupported facts, because that does no good for the reader nor the subject. Everything must be WP:Verifiable by a solid source. Hope this helps! MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:44, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

THANKS alot Matthew Vanitas.. I have tried to add relevant sources. I hope they are acceptable. Thanks! Narimanansari (talk) 17:36, 7 October 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Narimanansari (talkcontribs)

Dear Matthew please help me to to create this artical ,i dont understand how i create but please dont delete it, i am trying .thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sasha.1976 (talkcontribs) 07:23, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello Sasha.1976, the published version Mir Sher Alam Marri Baloch has been deleted because it was not yet ready to be a published article. However, note you still have Draft:Mir Sher Alam Marri Baloch, so you can continue to work to improve the draft. Your draft will not be deleted as long as it stays in Draft space until approved by an editor, and as long as you do not leave it untouched more than 3 months.
What I recommend you do: find every significant media mention of Sher Alam that you can find online which is to a serious news site, or if you can find any books on GoogleBooks that mention him. Take all those links and list them in the References section, using a "*" to mark the start of each new line so it'll be tidy. Once you have gathered your sources, contact me or Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk to ask which sources look good.
If there is not substantial media/academic coverage of Sher Alam, then he cannot have an article, so finding good sources comes first. It does no good whatsoever to add any fact, unless you can show us a good source to WP:Verify it.
As a separate note, please be more careful in your spelling/formatting: all proper names are capitalized, while you're neglecting to capitalize some peoples' names and some cities. Also there is one empty space following a period or comma, but none before. Please take a close work and ensure that it is tidied up per standard rules of English grammar. Grammar is not cause to deny your article, but uncareful grammar does make it harder for reviewers to read it.
At the moment, please do grammar/format cleanup, and begin compiling any reputable news sources you can about Sher Alam, and we can proceed after that. You can only cite works which specifically mention him by name, so do not cite anything that mentions his father but not him, for example. And again note I have made many improvements to the article about his father, so your work here is already having a positive impact in bringing editor attention to Baloch articles. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:38, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

THANKS alot Matthew Vanitas.. I have tried to add relevant sources. I hope they are acceptable. Thanks! Narimanansari (talk) 17:36, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Sasha.1976, your current sources aren't too great, since video is difficult. First, it's possible that those video clips are illegally uploaded since they don't appear to be on a news company's site. Second, if you cite a Pakistani newspaper we can easily use GoogleTranslate for Urdu to let a reviewer read the source; that we cannot do with video/audio. Is Sher Alam ever discussed in Pakistani or Russian newspapers? Have you tried searching his name, in its assorted variants, in Urdu spelling and in Russian spelling? Your current sources are not enough, so please keep looking and add any more sources to the References section. MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:13, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Request on 19:09:, 8 October 2014 for assistance on article creation on film-maker Digby Rumsey by user Mestin

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for taking the trouble to review my first article (on the film-maker Digby Rumsey) and for doing this so very quickly.

I'm in a bit of a quandary: in terms of independence (and, now I see, contrary to the guidelines) I am in fact associated with the subject because I interviewed him for the purposes of garnering sufficient factual information to create the article. Is this permissible? I have attempted to remain strictly neutral and as factual as possible in the creation of the article.

My name is Julian Grainger and between 2003 and 2011 I was manager of what was then called The Filmographic Unit at The British Film Institute in London. I was Editor of the BFI's Database of Film and Television and responsible for delivering detailed, accurate credits for the all the films released each month in the UK to Sight & Sound magazine. I am also Palgrave Macmillan's in-house credits compiler for their 'BFI Film Classics', 'BFI Modern Classics' and 'BFI TV Classics' series of books. As your guidelines state, by itself the IMDb cannot be considered an authoritative source because it allow users to submit their own information. The BFI's database, on the other hand, does not allow such public submissions and the data is entered by a trained and dedicated team.

However as you say, the most significant problem with the article is lack citations. Assuming that the BFI's Database of Film and Television can be considered a notable and reliable source (?), it contains quite a few records for Rumsey's films (as well as others where he functioned as editor or sound recordist). Would citing links to a film's Collections record on the BFI's database be sufficient evidence? For example, one such Collections record (for Rumsey's film Fallacies of Vision) can be found here. Similarly, the Collections record for Rumsey's film The Pledge, which is also held as part of the National Collection at the archive in Berkhamstead, can be seen here. As you can see, many of these records themselves cite notable publications such the British National Film Catalogue.

I have added citations for the BFI database Collection records for most of films mentioned in the main article (not the filmography) but I wanted to ask you before re-submitting the draft.

I apologise that this is such a lengthy missive but any guidance on the questions above would be much appreciated.

Thank you again for your time and interest.

96.244.143.182 (talk) 04:22, 9 October 2014 (UTC) Mr. Vanitas, Thank you for reviewing my request. In 2005 "Davidsonville Park", a multi field recreational and youth fields. Facets of the Park are 1.5 miless of paved walking fields, completely covered by lights for night play. Mr. Bradshaw was instrumental in having this multi million complex, doing all as a volunteer. There was an article in the Baltimore Sun, dated 11/7/13 by Pam Wood, journalist about Mr. Bradshaw's efforts to get the Park built due to a burgeoning youth sports program at Davidsonville Athletic Association. Mr Bradshaw was President of the Association and the one who saw in the future that this Park would need to be planned for more fields for the growing Davidsonville Athletic Association group. In 2001 the children enrolled in our (DAA) was around 250. When Mr. Bradshaw stepped down as President there were almost 2,000 children playing under the DAA flag. The article writer wrote a very detailed article and the creation of Bob Bradshaw Way (the road that is the main road of the Park) All of this can be confirmed by talking to the Anne Arundel County Youth Recreation Director, whose name is Franklin Chaney. He can be reached at 410-222-7357. For further information, please contact Mr. Bradshaw at 443-867-8777. I hope this information can be entered for information on the creation of Davidsonville Park. Thank you for your time Mr. Vanitas.

Zār Article Rejected

Hello Matthew;

I received a note from you that my article on Zar in Iran has been rejected. I would like to know why it was rejected so that I can work on it.

Thanks, Maria Sabaye. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Msabaye (talkcontribs) 18:57, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello Maria, did you read my comment in the big pink box at the top of your draft? We already have the article Zār, and I think your contributions would be best made a section of that existing article vice a separate article. That way the main Zār article will have sections for the distinct regions in which the practice appears. So please place your materials in the existing article as a new section. However, please bear in mind the following:
  • Do not just paste your entire draft into the existing article. Your draft is over-long/wordy, and also it spends time explaining things explained in the existing article, so bring over only those materials applying specifically to an Iran section
  • Break your writing into WP:Paragraphs. Right now it's simply a "wall of text" which makes it very hard to read.
  • It's good that you list sources at the bottom, but it will be far better to use footnotes so readers can see which sources support which facts. Please see WP:Referencing for beginners for how to do this.
  • I recommend you add your draft into the existing article slowly, the most important pieces first, wait a few days to see if any other editors have comments about your additions, or want to reverse them, etc. That's easier than just putting it all in and having someone get alarmed it's too much and revert the change.
Hope this helps, and you can ask for advice from the mentors at WP:Teahouse if you need help in merging your draft into Zār. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:55, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

interesting

Hi Matthew! ref. to article Sihanoukville (city)

i have the article published - just today, after i learnt the review takes 4 weeks. Obviously people have conflicting ideas about its quality. It would be interesting to learn more about all these varying forms of acceptance...anyhow the article is up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sihanoukville_(city)

All the best Wikirictor (talk) 16:51, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

clarification

Hi Matthew! it seems i have to enlighten you on the Sihanoukville story...

ref. to your statemnet: Thank you for your submission, but the subject of this article already exists in Wikipedia. You can find it and improve it at Sihanoukville instead.

The place is a city and a province. i happened to come across the old article around a month ago. It had been created around 2005. Contents did randomly refer to either the city or the province, the entire article was badly written with lots of mistakes (form and facts) etc. So i decided to go through the whole article re-edit and tidy up - and made it the province article. a couple of days ago i had it requested to move to Sihanoukville province and prepared the new one - Sihanoukville city. As soon as the old one is renamed i am going to continue to work on it as well. This is the third time i am writing this now. Maybe this time somebody is willing to look into the matter. so - both articles are being taken care of by me - one tackles the city, the other the province...- as is the case in many places in Cambodia.

Thanks for your attention....and i would really appreciate a reply and some form of clear and straightforward cooperation. All the best Wikirictor (talk) 17:58, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello Wikirictor, thanks for the explanation! If you use AFC in the future and have a complicated thing you're sorting out like that, it may help to leave a big bold message at the top explaining, since reviewers are generalists and not topic experts. In your case I just noticed an article by a similar name and at a glance they seemed the same article. I'll defer to your judgment on the issue of dividing the cities, but you might have editors with the original article on their Watchlist come by to ask you what's up. Thanks for your cleanup work! London Fell draft

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for your helpful detailed reply. Could you please let me know if many scholarly reviews in scholarly journals about my series would be sufficient? If so, how would I submit this evidence?

I look forward to your answer.

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by A.londonfell (talkcontribs) 19:13, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello A.londonfell, scholarly reviews of works are, I believe, an acceptable reference. Simply cite the review as a standard Wikipedia footnote. Don't type footnotes like [1], but use the coding shown at WP:Referencing for beginners. You also need to make it clear if the article is a bio of Fell, or an article about his book series. Whatever the subject is, make that the first words of the paper: "An apple is a small red fruit growing largely in the Northern Hemisphere", like that. The whole who-what-why-when-where of your topic should be in the first sentence or two (see WP:Lead section. It it's about books, read the Books policy I link at the top, if about the man, read the Writers policy I linked at top. 14:53:42, 11 October 2014 review of submission by 93.107.123.240

93.107.123.240 (talk) 14:53, 11 October 2014 (UTC) Hi I will try to get more sources for you thanks... but I have checked what other community radio stations have used as sources and they are nearly all just pages from their own websites. Regards Ray

No worries Ray (93.107.123.240). I'm skeptical as to whether a 2013-established radio station is likely to meet WP:Notability, but if you've read the Notability guideline (have you yet? you really should, would really clarify things) it's your call.
So far as other radio stations not having proper sourcing: the usual Wikipedia reply is WP:Other stuff exists. That is, the existence of other weak articles is not a justification to publish another weakly-sourced article. And generally if we catch such unsourced articles (or sourced only to themselves) we delete them, so there's a steady winnowing process. The point of AFC is to help people make the strongest possible articles so theirs will survive indefinitely. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:20, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Jean Prosper Guivier

Hello,

Thank you for checking and approving my article on Jean Prosper Guivier so quickly. I am delighted that it has been approved as 'start class' and will work on improving the quality of the article further. I read your recent reply to the author of 'The Wood Nymph' (Sibelius) and was encouraged by your comments, which I hope may apply to me in some measure too. I wish you the best in your work with Wikipedia, regards, Stephen — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smichok (talkcontribs) 20:27, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

battle of Batapur

Hi, i read your comment on my draft regarding battle of Batapur. You asked for more coverage or history of battle. The battle is already present and written in Indo pak war of 1965 war https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indo-Pakistani_War_of_1965 (On 6 September, the 15th Infantry Division of the Indian Army, under World War II veteran Major General Prasad, battled a massive counterattack by Pakistan near the west bank of the Ichogil Canal (BRB Canal), which was ade facto border of India and Pakistan. The General's entourage itself was ambushed and he was forced to flee his vehicle). I wanted a separate article of the battle on it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zerefx (talkcontribs) 05:58, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello Zerefx, you cannot cite one Wikipedia article on another. What we're asking you for is to find book/magazine/news articles which verify the facts of this battle, and footnote them. I see know it's more commonly spelled "Batapore", so I'm finding a lot more sources now. For any given fact, readers should clearly see a footnote to a WP:Reliable source. Please check GoogleBooks, or search Google for news articles, and cite those sources in. For other Wikipedia articles (which are not "references"), do not footnote, but rather WP:Wikilink. Also note for "defence journal" your written footnote shows no date, article title, author, etc; pleas fix that per WP:Citation so all the info is shown to the reader at a glance. Add a few more serious footnotes, and we should be good to publish. MatthewVanitas (talk) 06:20, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Okay thanks i will try get more soruces, books or news on the article. Just a correction the battle is Batapur not Batapore. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zerefx (talkcontribs) 06:39, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Zerefx, are "Batapur" and "Batapore" two totally different battles? I'm seeing a lot on GoogleBooks about "Battle of Batapore", and the 1965 war article you linked me to says "Batapore" as well. It's not up to you to decide which is the "right" spelling, we use what the reliable sources use. Unless you're saying that they're two completely different battles. Also, dude, WP:Sign your posts, otherwise it keeps showing us a "Zerefx forgot to sign his post". Just type ~~~~ and it will sign automatically for you. MatthewVanitas (talk) 06:43, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Yes both are completely different battles. Batapur battle was foughted on 6 september and batapore was foughted near the ending days of war. Sorry since i am new here didn't knew i had to post that sign. Okay i will try get more sources on the article zerefx (zerefx) Zerefx (talk) 06:54, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Draft:Hubert Berchtold

The problem with this article was only, that the reference was a dead link, this link was replaced and after this was still not enough, I created in-line sources. The notability of this article was never in question! Simply bringing back the article would be great. Many thanks! 84.112.209.138 (talk) 09:19, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello 84.112.209.138! To "bring it back" all you need to do is hit the "Resubmit" button after you make the needed changes. The problem is not only what you describe, there's also that the draft is literally only one sentence, and the only sources are to statistics pages, with no cites to actual analysis of his importance. Please flesh it out a little, cite some sources which note his highest achievements, then hit Resubmit. Also, please log in prior to posting messages, otherwise I have what username you are. 16:53:46, 13 October 2014 review of submission by Allabel

Hi All: Thank you for looking at my submission. I would like to be guided in the review and preparation of future submissions. My topic PEARL PRESCOD has not been written about before, but make noteworthy accomplishments as a West Indian female, who lived in England during the 1950s'.

I am reading the information from wikipedia on how to edit, but would like more direct guidance from you. beverly "Allabel" Allabel (talk) 16:53, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello Allabel, I strongly suggest you read WP:Your first article before beginning. So far as Prescod, when you say she has "not been written about before", do you mean on just Wikipedia, or are you saying there are no books, news articles, etc which discuss her? If the latter, note such sourcing is mandatory for an article, you cannot have an article without such. MatthewVanitas (talk) 17:07, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Graves submission

Thanks for your feedback on the O.E.L. Graves submission I made.

> ... Graves seems to have been written about as an artist enough.

I must be doing something wrong, as I have found almost nothing on O.E.L. Graves on the Internet, especially biographical and personal information, despite a lot of research. As a result, there is almost nothing to cite as reference. My hope was that getting a Wikipedia entry started would encourage anyone with information to contribute it.

> The problem is sourcing. Firstly, you cannot link to scanned images of articles. Firstly, it implicates Wikipedia in copyright violations. Secondly, in theory you could just be making said articles up.

That is the only source I have for that information. What else can I do? It is so much better to show what little we have than to deny the public any information. A flawed source is better than none when dealing with someone so poorly documented. For all we know, everything written about Graves in that Palm Springs Life magazine was made up, even if properly cited. Let the information be disputed, or ask readers for the missing information (like the article date that was missing) or a better reference. We are doing detective work here, from my perspective. I've been searching for any information I can find on Graves, and I'm laying everything I've found on the table here. Isn't that what an encyclopedia is for?

> Secondly, make sure you're sourcing serious media/academic sources. That does not count commercial gallery blurbs, photos of his work (also a copyright violation), etc.

Who decides what is "serious", or what constitutes "media" or "academia"? I am simply citing where my information comes from. The quality and veracity of that information is something I have no control over. My references to commercial galleries were to prove Janet Gaynor had an extensive collection of Graves' work that she sold. I wasn't citing any "blurbs" about Graves from those sites.

If the owner of a Graves painting takes a picture of it and posts it online, is that a copyright violation?

> I found nearly a dozen serious news articles about him.

Did you actually go to the links and read them? I have yet to find one serious news article about Graves online. Please send me just a few of those links, and I would be delighted (assuming I haven't already seen them)!

> Go through your draft and add serious footnote to everything you can, and remove anything you can't back up with a footnote.

I think if I did that, there would be nothing of interest on O.E.L. Graves left. That's fine by me, if you just want to have a stub of a Wikipedia article for O.E.L. Graves. I was trying to make it more interesting for the reader, using the information I found interesting from all the research I did on Graves. Can't we do a "disputed" entry to get the ball rolling? Seriously, I haven't found squat on Graves. Most of my information is coming primarily from two people -- Jack Midling who I mentioned at the end of the article (who is quite old and in a retirement home), and the owner of Graves' favorite painting that Graves refused to sell to Winthrop Rockefeller. That owner bought the painting from Jack Midling decades ago after Graves died, along with a collection of pictures and information on Graves that Midling had collected as part of his business.

I can prep a stub on Graves with no references, but even then I'm not sure I can reference his real name or birth/death dates if I exclude commercial gallery blurbs or have to rely on "serious media/academic sources".

There's very little out there on Graves, which is precisely why a Wikipedia article is so important. Did you see this link?

https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=1006011704231

My experience has been the same as the person inquiring who couldn't find info on Graves. Even nine years after the question was posted, there are only commercial gallery blurbs referenced and the one website the painting owner posted, which is the most extensive source on Graves available by far that I have seen, but apparently it can't be referenced on Wikipedia because of photocopied articles.

You've got me almost bound and gagged when it comes to O.E.L. Graves. Somehow, that doesn't seem like much of a service to the inquiring public from Wikipedia.

Notability of schools

According to Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Common_outcomes#Schools and my experience, all schools offering the secondary grades that can be verified are considered notable, even without extensive coverage in reliable sources. The assumption is that the coverage almost certainly exists, even though it may not be included in the article. I mention this in the context of the AfC submission about the international school in Kyrgyzstan. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 12:23, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Matthew, there is a webinar on DocOps offered by the STC (Society for Technical Communicators) -- would that qualify as "serious media/academic coverage"? Thanks

Hi, thank you very much for accepting the English version of Hossein Shahshahani. I appreciate your support and dedication. As I saw the created page, I noticed that a section listing the References has been omitted. Not sure if you felt the Footnotes are adequate or perhaps the References were inadvertently dropped.

Best regards, Axshah95 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Axshah95 (talkcontribs) 10:30, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Hello Axshah95, are you referring to the References which were identical to the Footnotes? If so, I removed them because they were repeated/redundant. If you're referring to the list of External Links, it was a large list of vague connection to the subject, whereas ELs are generally supposed to be a very small list immediately tied to the subject, like a person's homepage, etc. Not simply a list of other things tangentially related to their career.
Your article seems decent, but you had a lot of really weird coding errors, mostly odd wikilinks mistakes like trying to put http://Tehran&&&& (which creates nothing but a failed link), instead of simply [[Tehran]] which makes Tehran, nice and easy. So for any next articles, please make sure you glance at WP:Wikilinks to understand how to link properly. Nice work overall on the translation. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:45, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
