Writing about oneself[edit]

You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. Powers T 00:23, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome to correct factual errors in Marty Davis, but it's probably best if, in the future, you leave the article alone otherwise. Not only does authoring your own Wikipedia article reek of self-promotion, but it's commonly viewed as a conflict-of-interest. Cheers, — Scientizzle 19:07, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote it myself -- most of it -- in 2007. Because it "reeks of self-promotion" and is a "conflict of interest" i would like it deleted. I've tried to delete it myself to no avail. Frankly, it is an embarrassment to me. I'm now attempting to fly UNDER the radar! Thanks! Marty Martycdavis (talk) 17:51, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Ahmetlii. I noticed that in this edit to Marty Davis, you removed all the content from the page. Please do not do this. Blank pages are harmful to Wikipedia because they have a tendency to confuse readers. As a rule, if you discover a duplicate article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If a page has been vandalised, please revert it to the last legitimate version. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please edit the page and replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please see the deletion policy for how to proceed. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you wish to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. ahmetlii (Talk|Contribs) (Please ping me!) 14:01, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The article Marty Davis has already been through a deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Marty Davis and the consensus was to keep it. The article will not be deleted. The best you can do is propose improvements to the article on Talk:Marty Davis instead of attempting to change the article yourself. You can preface your proposal with the tag {{request edit}} to cause your proposal to be listed on a category page that is monitored by some editors. ~Anachronist (talk) 15:01, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
