After the initial review, I added in 2-3 new third-party sources. This is a topic for which there is not a lot of source material available. I believe that the original sources, with the new sources, are more than adequate. Please let me know if you have any other ideas. Thanks!!!

Billy Costin

Hello there, @RadioFan: -- I am trying to assist the editor who has created the William "Billy" Costin page. I worked on their entry and tried to bring it up to Wikipedia stub level. I truly believe this is a notable person -- especially given the fact that he challenged (and won in court) Washington D.C. race codes, and was almost definitely historically connected to George Washington's family. This is an entry for the upcoming Black WikiHistory Month event at the NYPL Schomburg Center Black Life Matters Wikipedia Edit-a-thon. It would be great to work with you to do further edits and make this article a good example of how to get information into Wikipedia successfully. So if I can do anything to make this happen, please let me know. All the best. -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 01:11, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello, Radio Fan! You mention the YMCA of the USA page is identical to the existing YMCA page. However, may we request your re-review?

1: The YMCA of the USA is a separate, legal entity from the global YMCA and bears a separate logo and visual identity system from the rest of the global YMCAs. The global YMCA movement may or may not represent the purposes and policies of the YMCA of the USA.

2: The YMCA of the USA, as a separate, legal entity from the global YMCA is recognized as a 501-c3 charity, and has been acknowledged by third-party sources as one of largest non-profit organizations in the United States.

3: Smaller, local US-based Ys are separate legal entities from the YMCA of the USA and the global YMCA but appear to have their own Wiki pages as well.

For your consideration: thank you!

Hi, im new to creating a wiki page, so can you tell me what is the problem with Svet Tambure page? Is a ISBN number a notable and reliable suorce of confirmation?

Xodus Magazine

Hello RadioFan,

The past editor went over the Conflict of interest with me personally, and agreed that in the section "Declaring an interest", that so as long as it is stated on "user page" that this would not violate the rule (As outlined as an exception).

We went through and posted this information on my "user page" in accordance to the COI rules.

As for the red links for the staff page, I am unsure what to do since some are not listed on Wikipedia. Should they just have any links removed?

Before I re-submit, it would also be nice to clean up any language that may be considered "promotional". Do you have any specific areas? The editors in the IRC page have poured over this with me for hours and felt it no longer sounded promotional, but wanted to make absolutely sure it had absolutely no possible way of sounding promotional, even though it is no longer in print or existence.

Thank you in advance,

Nicholas Reedy

What editor went through this with you? I would like to speak with them. This draft still has significant issues that should have been caught by an experienced editor, issues that are likely attributable to your close association with the subject. Issues that remain:
  • "vision of an “evolutionary” concept" who says they have this vision? Without references to reliable sources who call out this vision as noteworthy, this is you making promoting the magazine (or its memory)
  • "Noted for attracting several mainstream major brand ... first when advertising to the Gay community." Who noted it? You've referenced the magazine itself which is a primary source and inappropriate to back up this claim. If it's notable, someone else noted it.
  • "Averaging 94 glossy pages per issue, Xodus displays a thick and colorful perfect-bound magazine with informative articles" This sounds promotional. It sounds like it was taken straight from the media kit sent to advertisers.
  • The origin section is completely unreferenced, Where did this come from? Wikipedia is not a publisher or original thought.
  • "The popularity of the printed product catalog spurred the creation of the magazine" Popularity according to whom? Certainly not the reference provided, an entry in a listing of California corporations. BTW you might not want to list this reference anyway since it lists what appears to be a residential address, especially if that is still your address.
  • "After launching the magazine" you dont need to cite this. We know the magazine launched. If you were referencing some specific bit of information such as a launch date, that would make sense to cite.
  • "Xodus enjoyed a near 70% sell-through rate" This claim is quite strong for the periodical business does the citation at the end of the paragraph back this up? I cant locate this publication online. "Enjoyed" is editorializing "Xodus sold nearly 70% of the copies provided to newstands" is not (for example). The remainder of this sentence is also reference free
  • Including readership (110k) over lower circulation numbers (30k) feels like cherry picking.
  • "The magazine included a circulation and sales also available online at many independent sellers and online libraries" This isn't really different from any professionally produced magazine, or even low volume amateur publications for that matter.
  • "Set against a backdrop of attractive men" promotional language, sounds like the opening sentence of that Media Kit again. The citation here isn't to a reliable source which describes the magazine as "Set against a backdrop of attractive men", it's to a resume, presumably, of one of those models. Again promotional.
  • "Xodus is the first publication to promote communication between gay generations" according to whom? Unreferenced claim
  • " each issue contained unique articles from independent writers" editorializing
The article has too many sections, several that are a single sentence. The key personnel section should be removed, the one non-redlinked person is already mentioned elsewhere in the article, Berman can be mentioned elsewhere and the link to Robert Lynn goes to an unrelated page. The events section needs to go if better citations cannot be found (a single press release mentioning a single event in passing is not sufficient). Also present tense needs to be changed to past unless publication has restarted.
I hate to be so nitpicky=. Please dont take it the wrong way, this article is good exmaple of why Wikipedia frowns on those with COI continuing to edit an article they are close to. It is really really hard to maintain a level of objectivity needed to produce a neutral tone, avoid editorializing and especially relying only on reliable sources rather than personal experience.

Hi RadioFan,

Hope you are well. Thank you for your review of Jean-Pierre Nimbona.

I have made changes based on every comment you left and simply took out some other parts. Did some more cleaning up and should be sending it in again shortly.

01:35, 21 February 2016 (UTC) Review Submission by Kanoah Tests

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Kanoah_Tests

Hello RadioFan, thanks for reviewing my draft.

"This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies."

I will try to make it read more like an entry in an encyclopedia and less than an advertisement. I'm also removing the only reference produced by the creator of the subject being discussed (slideshare made published by Kanoah Inc). I have to say the rest of the references are actual people reviewing and talking about the product, and they have NO relation or whatsoever with the product or the company. Those are indeed reliable sources.

I have a couple of questions to ask: 1) Are all the images present on the article what makes it look like an advertisement? 2) Is it the style of writting what makes it look like an advertisement? 3) What do you suggest to make it look more neutral? 4) How can I resolve the conflict of interest? Kanoah Test is a Test Management tool, and I believe it is important enough to appear on Wikipedia. This is the main problem for the COI: avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products.

There is another entry on wikipedia that's written in a very similar way https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TestLink and somehow made it as an article.

It was never my intention to make it look like and advertisement.

Thank you for your time.

Cheers,

Kanoah Tests

You clearly have a conflict of interest here and should not be editing articles related to this product. It is very difficult, as you are finding, to create a neutral encyclopedic article given your close connection with the company. You should instead request the article be created, another editor, if they agree that this subject can meet wikipedia's guidelines for inclusion, will then create the article from a nuetral point of view.--RadioFan (talk) 21:59, 21 February 2016 (UTC)
Hello there, I've messed up deleting some stuff I shouldn't have.
I have also asked another editor to write the article, but he copies everything and now it says there is a copyright problem. What should I do? Now i can't resubmit it because I deleted the option by editing source.
Thanks, and sorry for the trouble. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kanoah Tests (talkcontribs) 00:14, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
You should request the article be created as mentioned above. Any editor who copies text into an article is just going to get that article deleted.--RadioFan (talk) 00:20, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Hi Radiofan, thanks for reviewing my article and addressing your concerns. I was also aware of the larger page Eukaryotic initiation factor and had previously edited it, however, I think that eIF3 is of enough relevance and importance to the community to have its own page. For instance, there is precedence for unique pages for other Eukaryotic initiation factors, including eIF2 (a three protein complex) and individual pages for all 13 protein subunits of eIF3 (see eIF3A, eIF3B, etc.). Additionally, eIF3 has functions beyond its role as a eukaryotic initiation factor, such as in the termination phase, as I state in the Function subsection of eIF3. Finally, there is also precedence for unique pages about multiprotein complexes involved in molecular biology (See Mediator (coactivator) and RNA polymerase II, which also could be elements of the larger page Eukaryotic transcription). If you are worried about my conflict of interest, I can tell you that I am a PhD student in a field studying these processes, but neither myself or my lab is listed as an author under the page's reference section.

06:42:51, 22 February 2016 review of submission by Borismatt

Similar to other Artist Wikipedia pages.

RadioFan, to not get caught up in endless review and modification cycles, the article was created exact the same way as Andreas Schmidt´s friend and colleague Mishka Henner and others. For Artist publications and exhibitions are about their work, the reviewers comment is just ridiculous. There are even more published and independent sources than on other artists pages. I checked many of them just not to end up with endless review cycles. Artist´s work mentioned in this Wikipedia article is about 1% of his work available, I´m not sure we are talking about the same article.

As I see it you have to take down at least 90 Wikipedia pages of Artists since their page does not meet your criteria which would be consistent. I would appreciate if you define and specify the terms since I do meet the requirements as defined by Wikipedia. That the text editor function is not capable linking to existing Wikipedia pages in other languages is not my bad.

Please view Artist Wikipedia pages already approved before making such statements, once done and you still feel it is not in compliance with Wikipedia specify what exactly is missing. There are links to Art shows, News and Media Articles, reportages and so on. There are more references included as on other artists pages.

See Wikipedia page of Frederick_E._Olmsted or Dudley_C._Carter which even includes galeries of his work in the Wikipedia page ...

Hello RadioFan, in my opinion I believe the article is worthy for creation owing to the fact that its a registered enterprise and a worthy one at that being the leading digital + print magazine in Africa.

I also have provided more reliable independent sources as reference. Please kindly advise
