NDCRHS "History" proposal[edit]

What would you think of my initiating an Rfc on Talk:Notre Dame Cristo Rey High School#History? I'm willing to go some other route but the last Rfc (on categorizing as "poverty-related") produced the hoped for results. I'm grateful for the time you've spent in reasoning with the others and am ready to support any alternative your think preferable to move this forward. This is the most important section of the article and if we can get it restored I see less of a problem with the "activities" and the "pre- and post-nominals" issues, since they are so much in line with hundreds of other school articles. Thanks again for all your contributions! Jzsj (talk) 22:44, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What to do?[edit]

I cannot find the request for reopening the talk about pre- and post-nominals that had been on the Administrator's page, and John from Idegon won't let me add these in an infobox. Do you have a plan on how I might proceed to get this issue resolved, since hundreds of infoboxes have these means of identifying who the person is? Would an edit war on post-nominals and some type of request to resolve it be the best approach?

Also, how long should we expect before the NDCRHS article will be examined? Jzsj (talk) 11:38, 7 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - wish to help?[edit]

Thank for the suggestion about the article becoming a nomination for DYK. I'm quite new and don't even get things like subpages yet so not planning to nominate the article myself - if I did I think I would say "Did you know that Both Lives Matter won a Public Affairs Campaign of the Year Award for its 2017 pro-life billboard campaign?" I would be happy, however, if you wished to nominate the article on my behalf. Cheers Birtig (talk) 18:41, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ken McKay requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. In God We Trust[edit]

Hey- I made some more changes and additions to In God We Trust. If you have time, please let me know what you think. I have a feeling that we'll be doing a lot of editing of this page this year- there seems to be a legislative trend calling for states to prominently display In God We Trust in classrooms. It's an interesting topic that hasn't gotten enough attention- I hope we can improve the overall quality of the article too. Thanks! Geographyinitiative (talk) 21:15, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

For your information[edit]

The 7 days deadline for the articles to appear at the DYK box, is really 7 days and it's a matter of days, not hours! This was the first time ever in my Wiki life to see that a reviewer is counting the hours. However, you may also see supplementary guidelines#D9 where it says: "The "seven days old" limit should be strictly enforced only if there is a large backlog of hooks. Otherwise nominated article may still be approved if it were created or expanded after the oldest date listed in Template talk:Did you know#Older nominations." Jesus of Nazareth

Jesus (7–2 BC to 30–33 AD) is the central figure of Christianity, whom the teachings of most Christian denominations hold to be the Son of God and the awaited Messiah of the Old Testament. Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that a historical Jesus existed, although there is little agreement on the reliability of the gospel narratives and how closely the biblical Jesus reflects the historical Jesus. Most scholars agree that Jesus was a Jewish preacher from Galilee, was baptized by John the Baptist, and was crucified in Jerusalem on the orders of the Roman prefect, Pontius Pilate. Christians generally believe that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, performed miracles, founded the Church, died by crucifixion as a sacrifice to achieve atonement, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven, from which he will return. The great majority of Christians worship Jesus as the incarnation of God the Son, the second of three Persons of a Divine Trinity. A few Christian groups reject Trinitarianism, wholly or partly, as non-scriptural. In Islam, Jesus is considered one of God's important prophets and the Messiah. (Full article...)

April 2018[edit]

This message contains important information about an administrative situation on Wikipedia. It does not imply any misconduct regarding your own contributions to date.

Please carefully read this information:

The Arbitration Committee has authorised discretionary sanctions to be used for pages regarding all edits about, and all pages related to post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people, a topic which you have edited. The Committee's decision is here.

Discretionary sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimize disruption to controversial topics. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to the topic that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behavior, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. This message is to notify you that sanctions are authorised for the topic you are editing. Before continuing to edit this topic, please familiarise yourself with the discretionary sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

Regarding this revert, you're editing against the consensus at Talk:Turning Point USA#Merge proposal. Sure, consensus can change, but it doesn't change by edit warring. You have to go to the talk page and convince folks. What you did was disruptive. Please self-revert. (I am not watching this page, so please ping me if you want my attention.) --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 09:28, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I respectfully ask that you take a step back from your procedural sniping, which is unwarranted, contrary to policies and guidelines, and disruptive. I'm speaking especially about your edits here, here, and here. However more broadly I'm getting the feeling that you see me as an adversary. I'm not. We're on the same team, working to improve articles on American conservatism, and I believe we can collaborate. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 17:51, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I pinged you from my user talk but I'm repeating it here to make sure you're aware. You've now filed 3 totally baseless AN reports against me in 4 days. I'll count these last two as a single episode. Project News
By Lionelt

Last month's auspicious relaunch of our newsletter precipitated something of an uproar in the Wikipedia community. What started as a localized edit war over censorship spilled over onto the Administrator's Noticeboard finally ending up at Wikipedia's supreme judicial body ArbCom. Their ruling resulted in the admonishment of administrator Future Perfect at Sunrise for his involvement in the dispute. The story was reported by Wikipedia's venerable flagship newspaper The Signpost.

The question of whether to delete all portals--including the 27 Christianity-related portals--was put to the Wikipedia community. Approximately 400 editors have participated in the protracted discussion. Going by !votes, Oppose deletion has a distinct majority. The original Christianity Portal was created on November 5, 2005 by Brisvegas and the following year he successfully nominated the portal for Featured Portal. The Transhumanist has revived WikiProject Portals with hopes of revitalizing Wikipedia's system of 1,515 portals.

The reconstructed frame of Nate Saint's plane used in Operation Auca

Operation Auca was an attempt by five Evangelical Christian missionaries from the United States to make contact with the Huaorani people of the rainforest of Ecuador. The Huaorani, also known as the Aucas, were an isolated tribe known for their violence, both against their own people and outsiders who entered their territory. With the intention of being the first Protestants to evangelize the Huaorani, the missionaries began making regular flights over Huaorani settlements in September 1955, dropping gifts. After several months of exchanging gifts, on January 2, 1956, the missionaries established a camp at "Palm Beach", a sandbar along the Curaray River, a few miles from Huaorani settlements. Their efforts culminated on January 8, 1956, when all five—Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Ed McCully, Peter Fleming, and Roger Youderian—were attacked and speared by a group of Huaorani warriors. The news of their deaths was broadcast around the world, and Life magazine covered the event with a photo essay. The deaths of the men galvanized the missionary effort in the United States, sparking an outpouring of funding for evangelization efforts around the world. Their work is still frequently remembered in evangelical publications, and in 2006, was the subject of the film production End of the Spear. (more...)

I have closed the AN/I thread. I am obligated to remind you that if you file another report of similar nature next time, it will have to result in sanctions, sorry. Alex Shih (talk) 06:15, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also while I would recommend against opening anything at ANI anytime soon, remember that you must notify anyone you are discussing. It's accepted that such neutral mandatory notifications are an exception to requests to stay away from talk pages. But if you really feel uncomfortable doing so or for any other reason do not notify, you should mention this in your opening statement (or later if you only later realise you can't notify). Failure to notify without noting so is not going to give a good impression of you. Of course even if you notify this doesn't protect you against problems from opening discussions on issues seem as frivolous. Nil Einne (talk) 08:28, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
