GA reviews[edit]

Thanks for your reviews of K Foundation articles, Lincher.

  • I've taken the liberty of moving K Foundation from "Businesses" to "Art". I believe the former isn't accurate at all, and the latter whilst maybe not entirely accurate is the closest match available. I hope that's ok.
  • Would you mind placing K Foundation art award on hold, to give me a day or two to implement your criticisms? Ordinarily I'd do it immediately but not only do I have a cold I'm trying to finish off the next version of my plugin.

Thanks again for your sterling work. --kingboyk 13:35, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shag Times (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) has been edited to address your concerns, and there's a message on the talk page. Cheers. --kingboyk 16:22, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your Review of Flight 5191[edit]

I have edited the lead to Comair Flight 5191 in order to conform to WP:LEAD, as you suggested. Would you mind taking another look at it now? Thanks, Blood red sandman 18:02, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I made some minor adjustments as you suggested. CrazyC83 02:52, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vince Young[edit]

  • Hi Lincher, thanks for stopping by Talk:Vince Young. I'm confused by your opening statement. You say "...didn't change since it failed its nomination". I'm not sure what you mean by that. It's most recent nomination was succussful. The article has not deterioated since then, as far as I can see. What did you mean by that? If you could reply at the article Talk page, that would be appreciated. Thanks! Johntex\talk 01:59, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please see the discussion in the article's talk page regarding the delisting. I suggest the delisting is contrary to WP:WIAGA. Thanks --Merbabu 06:00, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GA review[edit]

Thank you for reviewing Fair trade! I appreciate your suggestions and have made the appropriate changes. I stated the fair use rationale in the images' pages and I reorganized a bit the definition part and deleted the bullet points! I hope this helps! Thanks again. A Question[edit]

Hi Lincher.

I just have a few questions for you regarding your review, and subsequent failing of New Jersey State Constitution for GA status. I had added references the way they are now on the suggestion of ClairSamont, because it is the clearest way to do so. The passages referenced are not the only applicable passages, but simply the ones most needing reference due to their importance. I hope this is ok with you, and please feel free to suggest a better way. I have tried so long to get the article to GA. About the images: the Corzine image was properly cited with its Fair Use, contrary to what you said. The Carchman image is now corrected in its Fair use criteria. It does fit the necessary requirements. If you do not know what I am talking about, see your review of new jersey state constitution. the lead section has been reworked per your suggestion, and a seperate article created. When you failed it for not being broad enough in coverage, you left only 3 words to interpret off : needs more sections. Later, you never mentioned any need for any specific sections, nor the need for any more at all. Checked with my english professor- negative enumeration is just fine. Although some problems I haven't fixed, they are relatively minor, eg the reasons why the constitution was reworked. This can be addressed post-GA, as they are not required in the Good article requirements. To be perfectly honest, it is ready for GA, as the three failings you cited have been corrected. If you disagree, I would like you to help out in fixing it. Thanks for your patience and time. --Evan(Salad dressing is the milk of the infidel!) 18:15, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So when you made your last sentence on it saying it is ready for GA now, were you waiting for someone else to pass it? Please just go through the criteria 1 more time and pass it. You said it is now ready. Evan(Salad dressing is the milk of the infidel!) 12:09, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wait- my bad- I see what you allowed for on fair trade (the cross-out thing), and I will do that. Thanks anyways for your time. Evan(Salad dressing is the milk of the infidel!) 12:10, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just fixed up those sections mentioned and added more to the lead. CrazyC83 20:19, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GA review of W. S. Gilbert[edit]

I've given the whole thing a thorough copy-edit, and think I've gotten all or most of them - at the least all the worst offenders. See what you think? Adam Cuerden talk 23:10, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I made those adjustments, creating a new section for the meteorological history and removing such (for the most part) from the lead section. I also added more details. CrazyC83 22:19, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for reviewing the article. I added more references and I think that improved the article already. You mention "some material could be controversial so I request the addition of inline citations" - I tried to guess, but if you could point out anything else you find controversial and uncited, that would be great. Thanks again. ←Humus sapiens ну? 23:17, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GA review of Fly to the Sky[edit]

Okay, I'm really bummed because I fractured my finger making it real difficult for me to type, so GA status might have to wait. Anyways, you said none of the images had fair use rationale. I thought every image except for the album covers had a fair use rationale. Do my rationales have to be more detailed? mirageinred 00:52, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Editing to respond to comments regarding GA review of Alby, Sweden[edit]

All of the comments seem appropriate and i have endeavoured to respond to each comment. In particular, i have:

  • Split Geology and Ancient history into two separate sections
  • Expanded Geology material by factor of two
  • Expanded Early history by factor of two
  • Revised footnote format to appear after periods
  • Added a new section on demography and current aspect to discuss demography and land use
  • Added material as needed in the text to insure that intro material is further discussed in the body
  • Added some additional links and done some copy editing to improve writing quality

Please remark upon how well these edits fulfill the needs for GA status. thank you. Anlace 03:27, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comment on the sources. I have added four new in line citations including two entirely new reference sources to support the new material. Thanks for that comment. I think the article is much improved. let me know if anything further is needed. Regards. Anlace 21:47, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lincher, thanks for another review - it is very much appreciated. Regarding your comment about more litigation, this is all I can reliably source at this time. Ford Mustang SSP Article[edit]

No offense, but is it that hard to give me a ring on my talk page concerning the stuff I needed to fix on the SSP page, just in case I might be preoccupied elsewhere? During the time I was waiting for someone to even take notice, I was juggling a users "holier than thou" wipe of a links section on an article I was trying to stablize elsewhere and contributing a new article to Wikipedia. At the very least, my GA review should be reinstated due to this. --293.xx.xxx.xx 09:53, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated the article Lebanon for GA review, under the Geography category. I couldn't help but notice that some of the nominations had been sitting there for two weeks or more, and I really would like quick feedback. Because your name was listed in the reviewers list for Geography, I was wondering if you could do me the favor of reviewing the article. Thank you very much.

Ratings[edit]

Nice one for all the work adding rating to articles. I'm kind of curious as to how your selecting which articles to rate, they seem to be quite random.

For mathematics articles, we've compiled a few lists of the more important articles, for example Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics/Wikipedia 1.0/General. These are the ones probably most in need of rating. --Salix alba (talk) 10:16, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request regarding WP:PT[edit]

Hi,

I'm the guy that started Wikipedia:WikiProject Portugal. I noticed you are involved with WikiProject Bio, and you seem to know how to assess articles as well as use those templates.

I'm having a little (big) problem with the WP:PT Template, where articles assessed aren't being parsed as having been assessed. Maybe you know what's wrong, or maybe you know someone who could help here?

Thank you for your attention.--Saoshyant talk / contribs (I don't like Wikipedophiles) 14:57, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I understand what you are talking about. It seems to be working fine for me see [2] for the article Lisboa, Region which now shows the assessment, and the categorization on the talk page.
Also, if you look at the Stats, you will see that the articles are in their appropriate assessment categories. The reason why they don't appear on the stats page as fast as you assess them is that Mathbot is a bot that scans the articles' assessments once every day and when it ran today, there were only these articles (present on the stats page) that were rated. Lincher 15:18, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I think the problem is not with template assessment, but the stats it should be sending. I've rated articles last week, and they haven't been counted yet, so even if it was because Mathbot is slow, it should have catched up by now. I must have screwed up somewhere.--Saoshyant talk / contribs (I don't like Wikipedophiles) 15:24, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I know that User:Kingboyk is good with templates and he was the one creating the AWB plugin, he might be of some help to you. Also, you can refer to WP:COUNCIL for help as they try to oversee the WikiProjects and help whoever is in need. Lincher 15:32, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Andreasgde and Kingboyk are working on this article with a view of getting it Featured eventually, but if it can become a Good article along the way that'd be nice. Due to us collectively working on the article, someone may fail on stability which is frankly a silly reason to fail as it isn't subject to an edit war. Is this article GA material? Thanks for your time. LuciferMorgan 23:56, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for chipping in on the Macca article, all contributions are greatly received. This has been a refreshing piece of teamwork (although Andreasgde must take most of the credit) and I'm hopeful we can get the Beatles' WikiProject it's first new FA :) --kingboyk 15:46, 11 November 2006 (UTC) PS I wrote the assessments feature in the plugin largely for you, have you tried it?[reply]

Hi K, It was a pleasure to take part in the effort on Macca, also, about the plugin, it works fine (See [3]) but to build a list that shows article namespace page then talk page and so on is tedious and I don't have the time these days to do it. Plus, sometimes the plugin skips article's page and when I get to the Talk page I haven't seen the article so I can't rate it (happens once out of 20 edits). Also, it would be a plus to have the different task-forces as checkboxes, even the living thingy as a checkbox to help categorize the different bio we have. I'm now working on my master's degree thesis and so I might not be working on the assessment that much. I also read a lot around WP, for example, [4] which tells me we have a lot to do in order to get the public's acceptance and also forces me father as many articles as I can in order to bring their quality to a higher level. Lincher 16:12, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. With regards to the checkboxes, you might not know that the plugin already has support for adding workgroups and other parameters using mouse clicks. It's on a context menu in the edit box. Once the assessment form has closed and AWB displays the text in the edit box, right click in the edit box and you get a menu. Some of the options are provided by AWB, some by my plugin. Anyway, thanks for the reply. It doesn't matter that you aren't using it (Plange has used it and probably others will), I just wondered if you'd tried it :) --kingboyk 19:44, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I used it, its less of a pain now cause I get used to it but anyway its a nice little piece of work, thanks. Lincher 19:46, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Narriman Sadek[edit]

Narriman Sadek article was merged with another article. I'm not sure what was the name of the other one, it seems to be "Nariman Fahmi". However, that article is not there any more, not even as a redirect page. Have you tried the merge help page? I appreciate it if you can help in fixing the merger and the redirect (original) page :) --TheEgyptian 16:54, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do not understand the request for the only thing I have done on this article is rating it. Thus, even if there was a merger, I didn't take part in it and if I didn't take part in the merger, I also do not know which article are these and which one were merged to which ones. Sorry if this can't help. Lincher 04:30, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the mess up there, it's been a long time ago. The first article where it came from is Nariman Sadeq (merge edit) which is now a redirect to the article page you showed me. Thanks for insisting, I had completely forgotten about that edit. Lincher 17:15, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maths articles ratings[edit]

Thanks for rating Abacus (amongst other articles). Could I request that when you rate maths articles, you add them to the relevant section of Wikipedia:WikiProject_Mathematics/Wikipedia_1.0? This needs doing as as the maths rating template has a "field" element, which is not used by the bot which produces all the useful lists and statistics. Also, it is useful to include comment=~~~~ in the rating template, so editors can easily see when the article was rated (and re-rate if needed).

ver 0.5 to ver 0.7[edit]

I've just added the missing 0.5 version articles to 0.7 version, assuming they are already selected. Is that OK? But I'm confused. As far as I understood Mathbot collects releaseversion templates not the 0.5version templates. Should we change all the templates as well? Can you clarify the procedure for moving from 0.5 to 0.7? Thanks -- þħɥʂıɕıʄʈʝɘɖı 07:04, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The templates for V0.5 have been modified so that they are used for both the release version (V0.7) and the prior version V0.5.
As for the release version page, it is manually created so if there are articles missing (when compared with the category or with the tag's what links here) then it is up to humans to add them.
As for Mathbot, it is actually having trouble and is not working fully as of now. What it normally does is it looks into Release version category (which is added by both the V0.5 and Release version tags) and outputs the statistics for the project.
As for the subsequent versions, they will be rotating from the release version page. This mean that the current release version will be moved/dumped onto V0.7. And the next release version will be maintained on the release version pages.
Hope I am clear, if I'm not, please request more assistance or help in anyway.
P.S. Continue adding nominations to help in finding the most important articles there needs to be on the release version. Lincher 07:14, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I beg to differ[edit]

You marked the two minor edits I made to the Ponce de Leon article as vandalism. One was a link to Taino, of which there was none then, and the other was done in the interest of legibility by moving a section title a few lines higher on the page. I invite you to check the Diff page at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Juan_Ponce_de_Le%C3%B3n&diff=93444364&oldid=93429901, and the preceding version at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Juan_Ponce_de_Le%C3%B3n&oldid=93429901, and see for yourself. Thank you. SamEV 20:17, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't revert the last edit but a significant number of edits ago. Which means that some vandalism wasn't reverted properly before you did your additions. Also, the wikilink you added to the Tainos people is already present higher in the text if you would have noticed it, you would not have edited it in the first place. As for the sectio header modification, it was created a long time ago and serves a purpose at the place where it was. A little bit of info in the WP:MoS the WP tends to prefer the english version of words when there are some and that is the case. Voilà, sorry for having reverted your edits, it wasn't intended towards you but towards the previous vandalism that wasn't reverted. Lincher 00:02, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. This is a very minor 'dispute', but I must repeat what I stated: at the time I did my edit, there was no link to Taino; that link you see to it was added later. That's why I provided you with the links to verify my statements in the first place. Btw, you only reverted me and made some additions of your own. You didn't revert anyone else. But thanks anyway. SamEV 19:26, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you take a look at these 2 prior modifications : [5] and [6], you can see that some material was removed from the article by vandalism. All the edits that were made after including yours didn't go back that far to revert this vandalism. So my edit [7] was done not to add or do anything except bring back the text removed. After little considerations for the prior edit, I thought it best to not re-add all the other modifications for they were style modifications and weren't really important or would be brought back by some other editor. Thanks, Lincher 01:37, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. I stand very corrected. Thanks. SamEV 21:45, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

LS Lowry[edit]

Hi, I agree that Lowry was not a 100% 'naive artist', however, he did choose to paint in a 'naive style', and how much of this was conceived or instinctive we will never know. Also, he studied intermittently, whilst keeping his 'day job', not full-time art education/art college/academy.

You may see the following links (from a quick google search) which reference Lowry in the naive art school/genre:

http://www.tiscali.co.uk/reference/encyclopaedia/hutchinson/m0039889.html = "The term is also used to describe the work of trained artists who employ naive techniques and effects, for example, L S Lowry."

http://wwar.com/masters/movements/naive_art.html = Art History: Naive Art: Naïve art refers... "Hicks, Edward - 1780 - 1849, Lowry, Laurence S. - 1887 - 1976, Moses, Grandma - 1860 - 1961, Hicks, Edward - 1780 - 1849, Lowry, Laurence S. - 1887 - 1976, Moses, Grandma - 1860 - 1961 (this site spelt Laurence the correct way!)

http://www.artpapa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10836 Re- debate between David Hockney and Melvyn Bragg: "discussed the paintings of L S Lowry and "naive-art" (as the style came to be known) and other "naive" artists who's artistic language was to (attempt-to) replicate the innocent assumptions of childrens' arts."

'The Oxford Dictionary of Art' under "naive art", discusses the point of whether he was 'naive' or not. It says some critics claim him as naive, others not. But it discusses the issue and is not completely 'categorically'.

Finally, in my opinion I think Wikipedia should be NEUTRAL and make the point that there is an ongoing discussion and disagreement on the issue of his 'naivety'.

This is far too categorical I think: He is widely misperceived as an amateur and naïve 'Sunday painter'.[citation needed] ..and why someone (not me) said citation needed!

Beechcraft 1900[edit]

Hi, Lincher.

I submitted the article on the Beechcraft 1900 for GA review last fall. The article failed, and you were kind enough to offer your reasons. I have had a little time to do some more work on it. When you get a break in your obviously busy schedule, would you glance at it and comment?

Thanks for your interest and work. Mikepurves 07:46, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is a note on an article on Burton Dreben questioning its neutrality. Are you the editor that questioned the article's neutrality? Why did you question its neutrality? Thankyou in advance for your reply,

Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies[edit]

Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of [unassessed articles] tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod 21:22, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A-class assessments[edit]

I have corrected a number of biographies which you rated as A-class. For an article to get an A-class rating, it should have at least the following items:

  • at least 1 picture; no copyright issues
  • an infobox
  • a lead section of at least two paragraphs
  • the article should be structured in such a way that at least a ToC appears, and no section is a stub
  • all statements should be referenced using in-line references
  • it should be well written (but the rules are not as strict as for FA)

Hope this helps, Errabee 00:04, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GAC backlog elimination drive[edit]

This form message is being sent to you either due to your membership with WikiProject Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. A new drive has been started requesting that all members review at least one article (or more, if you wish!) within the next two weeks at GAC to help in removing the large backlog. This message is being sent to all members, and even members who have been recently reviewing articles. There are almost 130 members in this project and about 180 articles that currently need to be reviewed. If each member helps to review just one or two articles, the majority of the backlog will be cleared. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the GAC talk page. --Nehrams2020 00:04, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

July 2007 GAC backlog elimination drive[edit]

A new elimination drive of the backlog at Wikipedia:Good article candidates will take place from the month of July through August 12, 2007. There are currently about 130 articles that need to be reviewed right now. If you are interested in helping with the drive, then please visit Wikipedia:Good article candidates backlog elimination drive and record the articles that you have reviewed. Awards will be given based on the number of reviews completed. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the drive's talk page. Please help to eradicate the backlog to cut down on the waiting time for articles to be reviewed.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Matt 205009.jpeg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Matt 205009.jpeg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:10, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review of Mississippi River[edit]

Hello Lincher, I recently found that the article Mississippi River could need a little help. I also saw that in October 2006 you did a review and the article failed to meet the GA criteria. I read your comments on the talk page (Talk:Mississippi_River#GA_failed) and I am going to take them as a hint. At the moment, it is too early for a completely new review, because I am just starting. However, I have a few specific points that I would like to get an expert advice opinion about. And as you have done the GA review a while ago, I hope you can help me out here!

1 - What I did so far is to give the article a reset to zero as far as images are concerned. They were pretty cluttered and oversized. I changed all sizes to default (no pre-set size) and aligned them all to the right. Not the ultimate solution (maybe it is) but a good point to start over from.

2 - I added structure to the article with some new sub-headers. I usually like to achieve an overview of the topic in the contents box already. So even the casual reader who is not too familiar with the topic can easily find what she or he wants. The article is still organized in a way that it can be read completely from the beginning without many unexplained jumps from topic to topic.

3 - The history section is quite long, it contains general history as well as navigational history. What I am planning is to move the history section to a new article History of the Mississippi River and reduce the section in the parent article. In the parent article, I would refer to the new history article with the main article tag and touch the topics in summary style. So the core information would still be present, just much shorter. In the new article I would add an introduction.

Recently I split off some topics from the Memphis Tennessee article. If you take a look at that you can get an idea to what extent it might be reduced. The Mississippi River article has more core information, though, leaving a longer section behind in the parent article.

What I would like to ask you for is your opinion on the above measures in the Mississippi River article. Especially with regard to the article quality rating. And if you find time, please have a short look at the Memphis, Tennessee article and let me know how far that one is from the GA class in your opinion.

My request is not urgent, whenever you find the time. I will put your talk on my watchlist, so you can answer here or on the article talk page. Thank you very much! doxTxob \ talk 22:44, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yuri Knorozov[edit]

I'm planning to delist this article, as it still has no inline citations. There are a lot of general sources, but all print, so citations might require a lot of work. Nowaday the criteria are applied more strictly compared to when you promoted it all those years ago, but if you disagree please comment on the reassment page. thanks.Yobmod (talk) 10:35, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yuri Knorozov has been nominated for a good article reassessment. Articles are typically reviewed for one week. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to good article quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status will be removed from the article. Reviewers' concerns are here.
