Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Shamilbasayev.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. howcheng {chat} 17:27, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:10045196.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:10045196.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG 10:34, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For more, see the talk page of the article. Please remember that this is not simply a vote; your comments must include reasons to carry weight. --KIDB 07:16, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are a genius[edit]

Thanks for the idea on how to archive my pages. It saves a lot of space on the talk page without those bulky archive boxes. I don't know how you did that but I had a whole load of problems on figuring out how to do that. I had to copy it and paste it on the sandbox and it took me a long time to figure it out and I messed up on it several times. Take a look and see how you like it. As you know, I am currently occupied with the Van resistance article. In going through, I noticed there was another article entitled "Battle of Van." Iran and European Fascism![edit]

User:Artaxerex and User:The Behnam are distributing claims mainly by the US strategist Terrill, indicating that Iranian leaders (Reza Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi etc) were fascinated by European fascism!! and the good economic and diplomatic relation between Iran and Germany was due to their sympathy with Nazi ideologs!! They claim that Shah wanted to make a center in Iran for Nazis to control the Jews of middle east!!!

User:Artaxerex is constantly pushing for POV and reverted my and others without using the talk page for discussions.

Please note that in the context of the good relation between Iran and Germany, Iranian diplomat Abdol Hossein Sardari at the time of Reza shah, managed to save Iranian Jews in Paris and also many other Jews. He had also support from Iranian regime of the time. Dear User:KhoiKhoi, no matter what you think about Pahlavi regime or Islamic regime in Iran, please do not let these baseless claims to be propagated in wikipedia. These guys are not accusing a single person of supporting Nazi regime. They are indeed accusing Iran of being a state sponsor of racism and fascism. These claims are like claiming that "US is a Islamic fundamentalist country because it has a very good relation with Saudi Arabia!!" Please keep an eye on these guys. Thanks. Former Hung. counties[edit]

Hi, just recently I realized that a huge mess was created with former Hungarian countries in Slovakia. User Svetovid moved these articles under Slovak names against the former consensus and now he claims that every article should remain so "until the end of discussion", and reverts every revert. I think this is incorrect because he was the person who tried to change the situation. He should have reached consensus on the talk pages and AFTER that moved the article not the opposite way. Another (new) Hungarian user who opposed his moves created forks. In the end we have a huge mess ans somebody should restore the former order - but the pre-Svetovid version, I think. Could you help with this? Zello 17:50, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See Kingdom of Hungary talk page and [6] for details. No we have two articles for each countries under different names, and a lot of crazy redirects. You should delete the forks, I think, restore the old county articles, and create stubs for the present-day regions with the help of Slovak users (not all counties are living regions, as far as I know). Brrrrrrrr :( Zello 18:53, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Greco turkish war[edit]

Hi, can you come and take a look to that article, alexius blatantly imposing POV nowadays..--laertes d 21:06, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would be great if you would come and take a look at the article. Laertes has been deleting sourced content-- not only sourced content which I have been adding, but sourced stuff that has been there for months, such as arms transfer from the Soviet Union to Turkey. Laertes has already been blocked for this behavior, and from the looks of it he's well on his way to another round. AlexiusComnenus 21:09, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

alexius i dont know which arms youre referring to, i didnt delete anything about soviet arms nad you are now clealy imposing your POV in the article..the article is nothing but pure craziness in its current shape..--laertes d 21:45, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is generally unwise to hide the truth about things when you can be disproved by a simple link-- [7]

I would hardly call the consensus of the Times, the New York Times, the Christian Science Monitor as well as a host of other newspapers as my POV. I would rather call it history. AlexiusComnenus 22:03, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was even cheap for you Alexius, i merely reverted a crazy line of editings which are already identified and reverted as vandalism by two other non turk neutral users..Not even noticed about the parts about soviet arms but reverted irt because sources material was deleted..--laertes d 22:13, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Sinan.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Sinan.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 11:20, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tajik[edit]

Hi KhoiKhoi, this is Tajik. I am writing to you from an IP account because I was banned by an admin with a false accusation in order to prevent me from taking part in an arbcom and defend myself. I am accused of being the same person as User:Tajik-Professor, a known sockpuppet of User:NisarKand ... the same NisarKand who vandalized all kinds of pages, including my own user page, calling me and my family "rats". If you take a look at Tajik-Professor's edits, you will see that they contradict my edits in all aspects. The claim that I am that person is totally hillarious. You know that, because you know both of us: me and NisarKand. Now, User:Thatcher131 has banned me because of this false accusation. I asked for an unblock on my talk page in order to defend myself in the arbcom, but I was asked to write a mail to Thatcher131 and ask for the conditions of an unblock. That was 5 days ago, he is still ignoring my mail. After that, I wrote mails to 3 other admins. But they are ignoring my request as well. Meanwhile, the clown-connection around User:Atabek is back at work, vandalizing all kinds of pages, especially the Safavid dynasty page, and accusing everyone of being me. In his anti-Persian paranoia, he has even accused User:Ariana310 of being me, and he was proven wrong here. Now, he is attacking another contributer at the Safavid talk page. He continues his personal attacks, POV pushes, and racist remarks, and in his paranoia, he even reverted the edits of the new user, all of them being non-factual edits, but only corrections of spelling and wikification [8]. He calls these edits "vandalism". Just go through his edits. Atabek is justifying his false accusation with the assumption that the new user is me. And he needs this accusation, because otherwise - if he is proven wrong - he would have violated the decision of the arbcom. Currently he is on a revert paroll and he is not allowed to have one revert per week per page. But he has already had 2 reverts in the Safavid page in less than 24 hours, accusing the new user of having "vandalized" the page. You cann see his revert above. In fact, he himself vandalized the page by undoing spelling corrections. Atabek is an extremely anti-Persian, hateful, and racist person. I have no idea why he was not blocked in the arbcom. He is accusing someone of being "racist", only because the word "Azerbaijani-speaking" was moved from the first sentence of the article to the second one. Even User:Bushytails who is absolutely neutral has told him that he is wrong and that he should stop his baseless accusations: here and here Atabek has also started a new war with User:Hajji Piruz (see their talk pages). I am writing all of this to you because I need your help. Hypocrite admins have blocked me, they are ignoring my mails and requests, and they are actively protecting the POV pushes and racism of Atabek. All my good work in Wikipedia is being destroyed. You know me Khoikhoi. I have never used sockpuppets and IPs. And all of my edits were good faith edits for the sake of the article. But this Atabek is a snake. Your help is needed! 84.58.175.253 00:27, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Churches, Mosques, Museums...[edit]

Ciao Khoikhoi, I hope that everything works fine in sunny California! I am writing you about a problem about naming. I am writing a series of articles about (ex-) byzantine churches in Istanbul. The problem is that almost none of these buildings is a church anymore. Most of them are mosques, some have been turned into museums. Now, there are always problems about naming them. I am following the convention of the scholars (as Richard Krautheimer), which name them with the turkish name (e.g. Kalenderhane Mosque), but I think that the old (greek) name can be used too if they are now museums (e.g. Chora Church). Then I create a redirect to the other denomination (e.g., for Kalenderhane, Church of the Theotokos Kyriotissa (Constantinople)). Regarding categories, I categorise the name of the church in the category Churches in Istanbul and the name of the Mosque in the category Mosques in Istanbul. Now it comes the question: there are rules which define all that? The question arises, because there are always people moving articles, names, cats, etc., and would be nice to have an advice about it.

Thanks, many regards, Alex2006 08:37, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a look[edit]

Hi Khoikhoi.

There is this certain user that I have noticed is going around intimidating editors with ArbCom as a tool to get his way and post his edits on articles with disputes. He posted this to me as an example. Note it is his very first post to me ever. And I wasnt even talking to him. I believe he is curently involved in an ArbCom case with a whole bunch of other editors. Please have a look, because I think threats like this severely degrade any form of improvement efforts for any article on Wikipedia.--Zereshk 21:59, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Oliver-hardy-1-sized.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Oliver-hardy-1-sized.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. —Angr 16:09, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Oliver-hardy-1-sized.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Oliver-hardy-1-sized.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:09, 5 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 16:09, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Oliver-hardy-1-sized.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Oliver-hardy-1-sized.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.

Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Whoa[edit]

Did you miss anything? It seems like I missed everything - the only one I bumped into was Menuetto. It seems that the cricket has found a warm spot to nest on Bonaparte's armpit: "Come, Greier, let me teach you my ways. Rule 1. When you use proxies, use all of them at once".

Congrats. Your patience in dealing with these guys is stunning. Dahn 00:50, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to say a "welcome back", but I didn't know if you were gone all this time (or just less present than usual). Welcome back.
Not much, I guess. Things have stabilized after Icar received his final warning and even had his Thermidor. Sometimes, things even seem unusually quiet.
The FA was Ion Heliade Rădulescu (you won't believe it, but I started expanding it mainly because it seemed disproportionate); I have never had an article with a simpler version, which was pretty interesting. I'm also psyched because I got a second article to validate the creation of an unusual category (I counted the potential articles on notable people to fit in there, and, well, they stop at 6 or 7 - interesting nonetheless). Dahn 01:15, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Well, there are several I've expanded recently, but I'm not sure if all the paths are explored for FA status. One possibility would be Gheorghe Asachi, but I'm not sure it's complete. There's also Wallachian Revolution of 1848, but I have a plan cooking (I'm going to work on it until this time next year, and get it on the front page on the 160th anniversary of the events).

Some controversy over notes and references is going to have to lead to changes in Horace Sébastiani, which will involve me looking again into the same sources (I wish I knew beforehand that gluing references together was to cause as much controversy as it did). I suppose the same will go for Averescu now... But I'm more into expanding and widening the coverage than into getting them to FA level. Dahn 07:05, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it seems some deleted content was re-created, based on original research. What's a quick way to deal with this? Dahn 10:37, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ordu sources[edit]

You provide 4 sources. Notice that one is a blog, one is an interview, one says nothing about Ordu except that it's on the way to Giresun, last one is a "book review". None of them say "Ordu is overwhelmingly Turkish following Armenian genocide". Show us where it says that.

Also, and this is equally important, all sources cite the same author - therefore are not unique - and you need verifiable sources. Same source copies four times does not mean it's been verified. Defend the sources, show where it says what you are claiming, so that we can move in with this. --Oguz1 15:06, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Italian architecture, by Giano II (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Italian architecture fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

this page seems to have been created to be a redirect to Italianate architecture. Italian and Italianate architecture are not the same thing at all. Thus the redirect is confusing if not pointless. Giano 16:58, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Italian architecture, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 17:09, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
