I-95/PA Turnpike

I have seen that map, and many designs for the interchange area. Although, from looking at specifically that map, it appears that there will be a turnpike main plaza west of the interchange where they will collect and dispense turnpike tickets, whereas it states that the toll plaza on I-95 east of US 13 will be a westbound-only Delaware River bridge toll plaza. It is also unlikely that I-95 will incur PA tpk tolls because the interchange between I-95/295/276 will be a high-speed interchange, lacking any toll plazas, therefore a mainline toll plaza east of the interchange for the turnpike would be unfeasable and pointless. Interstate 95 @ InterstateGuides.com, a source used throughout Wikipedia, states

"The connection will be a high-speed omnidirectional interchange, with the primary direction changes of northbound Interstate 95 to eastbound Pennsylvania Turnpike and westbound Pennsylvania Turnpike to southbound Interstate 95. The project includes a barrier toll plaza west of the interchange, at which point the ticket system will end. From there east, the toll system will be coin drop. This, of course, allows the interchange to be built without a toll plaza. (Len adds that federal law from 1986 [?] mandates a high-speed interchange.)"

You can go there to check all that out. The "coin drop" system will be the Delaware River Bridge toll. I also emailed the PA Turnpike project with the question of the PA tpk toll, so I won't edit that until I hear back from them.

The PA Turnpike toll was removed from that section on 26 February, too. I appreciate your steadfastness, though. --MPD01605 00:50, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

16 supr

Um... it really is WA-16 Spur, that's how it's signed (I've been to Purdy). 302 Spur probably is in Allyn. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 21:48, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Every record--both published by WSDOT, and every map I've seen that marks Purdy Drive as a numbered highway--lists it as 302 Spur. There is no 302 Spur in Allyn. 302 was rerouted north of Allyn a few years ago, but the old routing is no longer in the state highway system. -- Northenglish 22:56, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Problems with redirects

Hello. I've responded to your question at Wikipedia_talk:Redirect#Problems_with_redirects. Ewlyahoocom 21:29, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

disambiguation

If only one set of state routes existed, say California, State Route 15 (California) would instead be located at "State Route 15" because that is the proper name for that highway. However, other highways bearing the exact same name exist in Georgia, Ohio, and undoubtedly in other states as well.

The majority pages linking to state routes are going to be other articles relating to the same state, thus from those articles, it would be logical to link to them by their proper names:

An article relating to California geography would use

[[State Route 15 (California)|State Route 15]]

This uses the proper name, as the reader knows which road is being referred to. However, a biographical article might use a redirect like this:

"He was briefly hospitalized after a car accident on [[California State Route 15]]"

to make it clearer to the reader.

The reason that U.S. cities, such as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, are different, is because the postal service uses a comma to disambiguate cities, making the resulting ordered pairs the de facto names for U.S. cities, even the ones that are completely unambiguous to begin with, such as Prudhoe Bay, or Gun Barrel City (both redirects).

Other place names are done differently, compare Córdoba Province (Argentina), Karakorum (Mongolia), Požega (Croatia). Also, rivers with the exact same name are disambiguated with parentheses as well: Colorado River (Texas), Green River (Washington), Red River (Vietnam).

Thus, I firmly believe that it would be best, for highways, to title them using proper names whenever possible, using parentheses as needed. Redirects exist to handle cases where the state needs to be made explicit in the article text. Another area you might take a look at is highways in Michigan, which are properly named, for example, "M-1", and never referred to as anything else.

Let me know if I'm making any sense. — May. 17, '06 [07:42] <freak|talk>

Arbcom

Is it just me or does it feel like they are turning this into a user behaviour Arbitration matter rather then what was requested? JohnnyBGood t c 00:49, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Add them to my shitlist? Seriously though, they are totally missing the point on this and frankly it's maddening. JohnnyBGood t c 01:02, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Hello,

An Arbitration case involving you has been opened: Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Highways. Please add evidence to the evidence sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Highways/Evidence. You may also contribute to the case on the workshop sub-page, Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Highways/Workshop.

On behalf of the Arbitration Committee, --Tony Sidaway 17:58, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

WOW! Thanks for your edits! I'm sure they were good, I just don't have time to read over what you did. This month has three naked bike rides in Seattle, things are nuts. I will get back to you. Cheers! User:Dandelion (talk|contribs) 00:29, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I will be away from Wikipedia for a few months. My access to the site has been limited and I can only get on during a few hours a week. However, during summer my schedule changes, and thus I am unable to get back on Wikipedia.

You may contact me however, at Wikisource or by email (keep me updated on the arbcom case, I will be able to respond)...

I'm not really sure when I'll be returning. Possibly in August or September... although I signed up to take AP Chemistry, AP Language, AP U.S. History, Pre-Calculus, Spanish 4, Physics, and Eschatology and Hermaneutics. Don't know how the homework load will be. But rest assured... I'll be back.

Garden State Parkway

Thanks for the revert on the Garden State Parkway article, to restore the changes I had made. I don't know how I had missed the revert that undid my changes, but I am especially glad that you noticed the changes, did the revert yourself, and commented so generously on what I sincerely think made a useful exit table even better. Thanks again. Alansohn 21:31, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Northenglish, I got your message about the issue via "Township" vs. "Twp." For me, I prefer some municipalities to have "Twp" for some reason, but I can't quite spit it out. Thank you for your note

--Mlaurenti -- June 9th, 2006 <--> 11:36

I prefer "Township". Easier to pronounce. — Rickyrab | Talk 17:49, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

My bad

Sorry about that, I'd assumed everyone named in the dispute was there for the same reason. I see now you joined as a largely outside party and weren't involved with any warring. My apologies on misspeaking. I can change that if you'd like. Gateman1997 15:09, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Arbitration

The ArbCom is prepared to find all parties in this sorry affair equally culpable, which you know as well as I do is light-years from the truth. (Correction: Apparently Freakofnurture is allowed to move-war with impunity.) This amounts to giving SPUI a free pass for his role as the sole instigator of this entire thing, so as far as I'm concerned the project is his to do with as he wishes--it's what everyone but us seems to want anyway. As for me, they're about to put me on "probation" despite the fact that I have done nothing wrong and no evidence has been presented against me whatsoever, so I'm just going to leave Wikipedia entirely; I will never edit while an unjust probation is in force against me, ever. Have fun. —phh (t/c) 05:12, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Request for Adminship

It is my regretful task to inform you that I have closed your request for adminship early as unlikely to achieve consensus. Please do not be discouraged; a number of users have had their first RfA end without consensus, but have been promoted overwhelmingly in a later request. Please continue to make outstanding contributions to Wikipedia, and consider requesting adminship again in the future. You may find Wikipedia:Guide to requests for adminship helpful in deciding when to consider running again. If I can be of any help to you, please do not hesitate to ask. Essjay (TalkConnect) 05:45, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to see your RfA closed early. The bar is set awfully high for something that is "no big deal"™, but th comments were encouraging rather than dismissive. I'll be happy to nominate you in 2-3 months if you want to try again. All the best. Eluchil404 08:33, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

County Route 551 (New Jersey)

Thanks for your correction to my revert of County Route 551 (New Jersey) and all the other NJ road work (no pun originally intended). I know you set up a WikiProject (which I signed up for), but the best thing we could do is to identify a specific set of missing articles, or ones that need work, and start divvying up the assignments and get people working. I did the latter half of the County Route 500 series articles, and we could use work there, or anywhere else you see fit. On behalf of WP:NJ, keep up the good work! Alansohn 21:53, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

No problem

It was no problem -- all it takes is being part of the Wikipedia community for a while, meanwhile gaining their trust. Having a four-digit edit count and one featured article written doesn't hurt, either. —this is messedr͏̈ocker (talk) 04:47, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Nijmegen Centre for Border Research

Hey Northenglish, thanks for following up the afd on the above. I was wondering about the standard procedure in relation to nominating 'nests' of related vanity articles (usally created by same user to provide internal links for each other). Does each one need to be nominated sepreatly or is there a mechanism for nominating en masse. --Coil00 22:11, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

The actual street was formed pre-1888.The place i got that was a book-so i cant give you a link. The book: "Images of America: Highland Park"-one of its pages showed an 1888 map of Highland Pk. with Duclos in it.I changed it to:

Formed: Street: Pre-1888 Designated:Unknown.HurricaneCraze32 22:52, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Problem:
The speed limit is 25 miles per hour although many people break the limit on
Duclos and once in a while will crash, which usually happens at the Parker Road
and Rose Street intersection at mile marker .55.
I've lived at the intersection for 8 years and have many eyewitnesses of crashes at my intersection and never seen it anywhere else up or down Duclos, adding that my parents and I have had to help out in many of these.
Would an eyewitness experience count as original research?HurricaneCraze32 22:24, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

G'boro Urban Loop & I-840

I would just like to point out that the I-840 (NC) article was a full article, but was changed by SPUI right before you looked at it. It's no big deal, but there was an article before. --MPD01605 (T / C) 01:28, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Yea, I disagree with SPUI's fast-action editing: it's causing some trouble (especially with me), but I admit it's producing a lot of good results. Hey man (Northenglish), I really appreciate you sending all those shields to the commons for me. Thank you! --TinMan 03:15, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

It was a "full article" with the exact same text copied over from one to the other. In other words a content fork. --SPUI (T - C) 09:50, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Redirects

I know that, but I was cleaning out links to New Jersey State Highway X to catch the places where that wording is used unpiped, and it was a lot easier if I also fixed ones that were piped. --SPUI (T - C) 09:50, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Turnpike

The Turnpike ends at US 46, south of I-80. Turnpike maintenance continues past I-80, but that is not part of the Turnpike. --SPUI (T - C) 10:46, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

That's actually just before it ends at 46 - the northbound split with the ramps to I-80 is on the Turnpike, but the actual interchange is not. Signage past 46 only shows I-95. --SPUI (T - C) 10:58, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

How about now? --SPUI (T - C) 11:15, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

I feel that saying "near Trenton" is a lot more useful than giving the exact township, as the former is more likely to be known by the reader. --SPUI (T - C) 11:33, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

It is useful to give the exact township; in the exit list, you already have the destinations where the interchange is directed to. Trenton is 6 miles away...thats pretty far (for New Jerseyans, like me). The same goes for Camden. Camden is about 4 miles away from Bellmawr. -- Mlaurenti 21:08, 17 July 2006 (Tokyo)

We also have the exact township in the exit list. An infobox is intended to give general information about the route; saying it goes near Camden is more useful than saying it goes through Bellmawr. --SPUI (T - C) 13:43, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
A question: why is it better to say "near XX" rather than "in XX"? In the exit table, it lists the municipalties where that road would go to. Mlaurenti talk 18:15, 18 July 2006 (Tokyo)

Strike-breakers Deletion review

I am new and hoping there is a way we can chat. If not, Please message me. I am sincerely wondering why you oppose my desire to acknowledge the fact that certain Professional atheletes and famous people through history have crossed union picket lines and performed struck work. This may be a hot topic to some, but surely the FACTS can be presented in a way that is unbiased. Why do you support the supression of facts on Wikipedia? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by XxxSKOOKUMxxx (talkcontribs) 05:58, July 19, 2006 (UTC)

Strike-breakers Deletion review revisited

I Apologize for the breach of ettiquite regarding the elevation on the list. I was really hoping for a way to chat. I'll get the hang of it. Given your explaination/suppoet as to the deletion of list of famous strike-breakers, is it safe to assume that you will support a deletion of the List of gay, lesbian or bisexual people under the same reasoning? Keep in mind that I believe that BOTH should be available to the Wikipublic for the same reasons. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by XxxSKOOKUMxxx (talkcontribs) 06:26, July 19, 2006 (UTC)

Route 33 Business

I will definitely be adding info re Route 33 Business. Additionally, there is a tremendous amount of confusion on the actual roads between the two, and the articles as they existed were not helping the matter. There were several places where there were links to NJ 33, that should have been NJ 33 Business. There are already separate articles for Spurs, Alternates and Bypasses of County Routes. We're making great progress on roads, and there's no reason that it doesn't justify an article, I just hadn't done it until it struck me today that it was becoming more of an issue. Thanks again to you for your road work! Alansohn 00:42, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

CA

Well take a look at some of the CA routes. You see {{cleanup-infobox}}, which SPUI did if you look at the history of those pages. It's to enlist the public in his crusade against {{routeboxca2}}. Renumbering

The problem is that we don't know that those numbers were applied then. I am wondering as to why the info box was changed... 32 does not end at the turnpike interchnage; instead, it ends midway on the tpk overpass. Since it just says that it ends at the tpk, then one might assume that it ends at the interchange.. User talk:Mlaurenti 27 July 2006, 15:26 (Tokyo)

Wikipedia departure

I apologize for not jumping in on some of the debates you have been enduring with SPUI. While I had thought that I was a stubborn individual, I have realized that ther are individuals who are far more pig-headed than even I am. Given how much productive work you have accomplished in New Jersey's roads and elsewhere, your departure will mean that much less accomplished collectively and that much more for those left behind to deal with. I strongly hope that you will reconsider your decision and focus on working as a group to come to a meaningful collaboration to address this issue together. Alansohn 16:27, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
