Jokes to help spruce up your user page[edit]

Q: How did the fetus cross the road? A: In the fat man's stomach.

Q: What is crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside? A: A frozen fetus.

I hope these delightful snippets of humorous finesse help to improve the general atmosphere of your otherwise dreadfully boring user page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Solid278 (talkcontribs) 20:46, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks so much for that info, and for retrieving my articel, it is VERY helpful. I will take some time to write the article properly this time.

Also, could you please tell me how I add that stats box to the right in an article, Ive seen them on others, its a table with a photo in and stats listed below? I am not too well up on code really.

Thanks!

I have stated references, and "tried" to upload a photo that I have permission to use from www.saffrontaylor.com. The things is the photo doenst seem to show, am I doing something wrong?

THanks!

Shavuot and Pentecost[edit]

Jon, you are of course perfectly right about Shavuot, but rereading closely you'll find that my correction referred not to it but the Christian feast of Pentecost, which, being the fiftieth day after Easter Sunday, does indeed always fall on a Monday. Commemorating it on the Sunday before began in those countries where the Monday is not a public holiday, but even in Germany, where it is, the fact tends to become forgotten and the day treated like a public holiday after the feast day, as Boxing Day and Easter Monday are. This does not really need to be part of an article about a Jewish feast, but if mentioned at all, it should at least be described correctly. Can you look it over and wikize it or whatever? I'm not sure what to link where. And as I said, we need to describe the punishments better. 89.138.192.76 (talk) 23:23, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wal-Mart (disambiguation)[edit]

All through this process, there may be others who are for or against this article based on what they have read others wite about. At the same time, a single user, Derek Cashman, seems determined to kill a Wal-Mart disambiguation page out, perhaps out of a personal distaste for one. He just says he is firm and will not budge on it otherwise. Wikipedians are supposed to improve, NOT destroy Wikipedia. A Wikipedia page is only supposed to be deleted only if it is not notable or otherwise seriously inappropriate. The general practice is that when there is any doubt, the page is kept.Shaliya waya (talk) 01:51, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Idea for Talmud articles[edit]

Hi Jon513: I am reposting the following request from User Sh76us (talk · contribs) on my user talk page for wider notification:

I was thinking of trying to stimulate development of a series of articles on Gemara concepts and doctrines, maybe to help children or newcomers to Gemara with explanations of some fundamental concepts that recur throughout the Gemara. Some examples might be articles on Yiush, Chazakah, Ta'aninun (as in "Ta'aninun L'Yoresh"), Eidim Zomemin (forgive my awful transliterations), Migu, etc., etc. Maybe we could even create a category or subcategory for it. I created Breira in this vein. As I don't have the experience or expertise in Wikipedia to know what to do to best develop this idea, I figured I'd come to you for your opinions on: (1) whether it's a good idea; and (2) How to best go about implementing it. Thanks Sh76us (talk) 15:56, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The editor continues to restore the inappropriate source. WP:3RR does not apply to vandalism reverts. In your opinion, is restoring sources counter to wikipedia policy considered vandalism? I think so, but I want to get another opinion first. Thanks, Jon. -- Avi (talk) 18:05, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now he is adding http://www.jewishtribalreview.org. I think there may be grounds for either blocking the editor or protecting the page or both. -- Avi (talk) 18:08, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Adding bad sources it not exactly vandalism and I don't think it is worth getting into a dispute on an article which is nominated for deletion. Your removal of sources (even bad sources) may be viewed as a bad faith attempt to sabotage an article you nominated for deletion. I recommend that you just ignore it, if the article survives AfD it can be dealt with then. Jon513 (talk) 18:26, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish Mythology[edit]

This is supposedly an article for project Judaism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_mythology It seems to be a collection of half a dozen people saying what they believe Jews believe. I have no idea what to make of it. Some of what they say Jews believe, is most certainly of Christian origin. Any chance this can be deleted or cleaned up or something? I have to go vomit. Deletion[edit]

Hi, I wasn't sure what was going on there. Was doing some new page patrolling and came across those two editors. The articles they were creating didn't look notable, and some seemed to be spam. It also turns out they were copyvios too. There is a possibility that there is sockpuppetry going on, which I have reported. It wasn't immediately apparent that an article about a film was being created either. Mjroots (talk) 13:00, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Ice Age 3[edit]

Thanks for letting me know. My perspective was that the same AFD applied because the film still has not been produced all this time. The IMDb page even says it's merely "Announced". I suppose a fresh AFD would be best here, citing the notability guidelines for future films (which wasn't around back then). If I start a new AFD, do I rename it with (second nomination) at the end? Or move the existing discussion to /Archive 1? —Erik (talkcontrib) - 13:37, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sources and notability added[edit]

Hi Jon513: Shavua Tov: I have spent some time improving the two articles currently up for deletion. The Adas Israel Congregation and Adath Jeshurun Congregation articles, now renamed Adas Israel Congregation (Duluth) and Adath Jeshurun Congregation (Minnetonka) to differentiate them from other similar sounding congregations elsewhere, are now a full articles. They meet all criteria for such articles. I also wish to point out that this is proof of what can and should be done to improve stubs. Merely because someone has started a stub does not mean that the article of a place/person/event are "not notable" since not all people have the time and capability of working to improve such articles. There is no statute of limitations on how long a stub deemed to be significant can exist and it is certainly no reason to invoke reasons to eliminate them, otherwise why do we have stubs in the first place? It is requested that the nominations be withdrawn! Please look into this. Sincerely, IZAK (talk) 11:10, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Follow-up with creator of Minnesota synagogues stubs[edit]

Hi Jon513: You may be interested to know that I have contacted User Grika (talk · contribs) who was the editor who originally created all the stub articles about synagogues in Minnesota that have now become the focal point of much debate, and he, as creator of the stubs has neither responded, participated nor defended himself in any discussions AFAIK. I am thankful and appreciative that you feel that I am worthy of the trust the community requires of its bureaucrats, and I hope to continue to behave in a way that maintains your trust in me and my actions. I have heard the community's voice that they require more of a presence at RfA's of prospective bureaucrats, and I will do my best over the near future to demonstrate such a presence and allow the community to see my philosophy and practices in action. I hope I can continue to count on your support when I decide to once again undergo an RfB. Removal of Hebrew comment[edit]

I did that because I thought that posting other-language comments on the talk page tends to run against the principle of open discussion. All users of English Wikipedia can be expected to understand English, but not all users can be expected to understand other languages. I didn't really stop to think whether there was a specific rule against it, it just doesn't seem right to me to post comments that not all users can understand. You may feel free to restore the comment. Better yet, I will if you haven't already, as a show of good faith. --Steven J. Anderson (talk) 18:34, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. You recently decline my speedy nom of the above. I am not taking issue with that decision, but, for future reference, just wondered whether your OSE point was that this one was notable because OSE, or that OSE overrides notability? I still cannot figure out in what way the notablilty of the subject matter is asserted in this one. Just curious. Thanks - ukexpat (talk) 23:51, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oops - I posted this message before I read your comment on the article's talk page. On one hand, I don't want to take it to Afd just to prove a point, on the other hand, I think notability is still an issue. Thanks. – ukexpat (talk) 00:25, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

David Hallett[edit]

Is there any evidence that David Hallett exists? Is he really 4 metres tall? How come he suddenly appeared on 2 April 2008 if he once played for a Premiership team? It looks to me like a couple of editors (Hal8 (talk · contribs) and Mockingbirdyeah (talk · contribs)) were having a laugh at Wimbledon F.C. and R.R.F.C. Montegnée. Hi Jon, on the Infobox Sttlements talk [1] i found an interesting proposal about UN/LOCODEs. I would support this. What do you think. Recently a new edition of UN/LOCODEs had been put online. Kingsfield School[edit]

Hi. Any single-sentence nanostub which states "X is a place in Y" and gives an external link is a clear-cut A3 speedy. There isn't any context here whatsoever. Anyone potentially researching the subject knows the place is a school n England. Hate to disagree with you, but I strongly believe this is a speedy and I've retagged it as such. I'm not against it being expanded (and I hope it will be), but the onus for a good basic stub belongs on the original poster. I've saved a few similar stubs, only to never hear from the original poster again. Thanks. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 19:40, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No one is winning or losing; we are all interested in making a better encyclopedia.
Because of the open nature of Wikipedia sources are an absolute necessity for many articles. If an article has no sources it is a strong sign that it is not notable, and there is no way to resolve inevitable disputes that will arise about the article. I know that you think it is "obvious that he is an internet star", but the term "internet star" is very hard to define. If wikipedia had an article for anyone who might be an "internet star" it would quickly become impossible to manage.
I recommend that you read Wikipedia:Notability (web) to understand wikipedia's policy on these issues. Jon513 (talk) 10:33, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tex Bronson post[edit]

I am Kyle Vickers, president of the Atlanta-based company Adrenaline Pulse Entertainment. I just recently added the post of Tex Bronson who is the main character of our new film in production called Mummies of the Third Reich. The character of Tex Bronson is played by famous american drummer, Kerry Denton, who has been in such mainstream bands as Mother's Finest. Also, minor characters in the film are played by such members of Skid Row and those of Green Jelly. The script itself and the film in production has become a phenomenon in Atlanta with not only the independent film community but with various professional visual effects artists and set designers that have worked on numerous Hollywood films. The film is also in a contract to be shown on ComCast. The fact that this film is a hoax or not notable is ridiculus considering that this is an internet encyclopedia noting real topics across the world. This is a real noteworthy topic that obviously is worth something considering it's budget over $100,000 and that it will be exclusively premiered at the 3rd annual Atlanta Horror-Fest. Reconsider your opinion about it being un-notable, and do some research on the information provided in the topic. --Adrenaline-pulse (talk) 10:58, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to understand the importance of deleting my post. I understand getting rid of people trying to put themselves or pointless topics on Wikipedia, but as and encyclopedia and a source or information, it is important that such things as a main character from a film being released at the southeast's largest independent film festival and on ComCast should hold some merit. As you stated on your page "we need to focus more on the mission of producing a high quality encyclopedia". By censoring information that is pertinent due to various factors including the fact that this fictional character is being played by a well-known mainstream musician, is not by your words "producing a high quality encyclopedia". This suject post is intended to provide additional information to those that wish to seek more on the topic and I believe that is the purpose of this website. If you have any authority on this site then reconsider what it is you are doing and stop this nonsense. Also, I was even sent a message saying that someone was concerned about my username and that it might be promotional. Its the same username I use for everything and even my email. The fact that a username without foul language is a concern to anyone is just ridiculus. --Adrenaline-pulse (talk) 12:44, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You declined my speedy nomination of the above with the following comment: "makes sences to me. a redirect would be wierd and there may be more tyy at some point". I am afraid I disagree -- the page does not appear to me to meet the requirements for a disam page as set out at WP:D as there is no conflict in article titles to resolve -- when, or rather if, there is in the future, that would be the time for a disam page.  – ukexpat (talk) 15:19, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for making it more clear. I knew that the General CSD criteria applies to all namespaces. As you correctly judged my point was that deleting a talk page of an existing article doesn't make sense, so that's why I removed the CSD tag. But as you said that it saves some clicks which is a good idea behind it. Thanks again! --SMS Talk 16:31, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving talk pages of Redirect pages (reply )[edit]

I merged Star Wars prequel trilogy and Star Wars original trilogy into Star Wars (film series). so i archived the talk page on the prequel trilogy and put on the new page, since i think no one really goes on the redirect talk pages so i thought it'd be better if it linked from the new page. and since i moved the page to archive there was no point of having the redirect talk page. But if it isn't allowed then i apologize. Gman124 talk 00:20, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re: speedy deletion[edit]

You've got a mail from me as a reply. /I think sending an email is better way to talk about it, so please read it. Thanks. --Appletrees (talk) 13:08, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re:[edit]

Kangdong is the duplication but should have "myeon" just like Gangdong-myeon, so Kangdong is unnecessary even as a redirect page.--Appletrees (talk) 13:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you give an official warning to him as admin? His user page is offensive and he declared that he "will" edit articles about Korean pedophiles whom I personally know because he feel that it is unfair that the crimes by English teacher with foreign nationality are exposed in newspaper. That might be violation on WP:BLP and could lead him in a court. --Appletrees (talk) 14:00, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Judaismfooter[edit]

Hi. I noticed you're big on weighing in on stuff in Project Judaism. Can you please look at Template:Judaismfooter and see my comments on the talk page? Your input and help is important to me. 217.132.6.143 (talk) 19:45, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rfb participation thanks[edit]

Hello, Jon.

I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. If you have any further suggestions or comments as to how you think I could help the project, please let me know. Once again, thank you for your support. -- Avi (talk) 19:06, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Mr. Administrator, I've seen you solve problems before, and would appreciate your input here, since I feel you're level headed, and I trust your judgement and fairness. The debate in question is Talk:Super Smash Bros. (series)#Master_Hand. 85.250.203.247 (talk) 23:07, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Herzog College[edit]

Hello, you declined speedy deletion per CSD:A1 (missing context) for Herzog College. I am sincerily looking at the article over and over but I don't see the context. Im not trying to bug you about it but I really want to understand the reasoning in article deletion. My reason for reporting it for CSD:A1 is that it's a one-line article with nothing in that line besides the fact that Herzog College is adjacent to Yeshivat Har Etzion. Does this fact provide enough context for the article to stay? Thanks for your reply :) FelisLeoTalk! 18:04, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough, thanks for the explanation! FelisLeoTalk! 07:25, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article: Shomer[edit]

With a quick look over of the cleanup you did on the article shomer I reverted it as per the note on the talk page there, but after going back and adding back some of the changes you made I think I probably could have left it as it was and just made a few touch-ups, so I apologize thought I hope as it is now is more satisfactory for the clarifications you were trying to achieve. Thank you for taking a look at it, as I said at some point I will (attempt) to more concretely connect the various pieces of information that are scattered among the few different articles on the topic. mamzer[edit]

My research may have been too literal. It sounds like your opinion is stronger. I feel sorry for the poor mamzerim who have a stain on their birth right forever. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.15.6.99 (talk) 12:07, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
