Concern with Infobox hotel merger[edit]

I have a concern that your closure at this discussion did not mention the fact that it will make Infobox building harder to use. And especially since you closed the TFD at Infobox casino "No consensus", this makes me wonder if Infobox hotel should've been closed off as no consensus too. That's because it shouldn't make Template:Infobox hotel any harder to use. Vegaswikian commented that only two parameters would need to be added to Template:Infobox building. MSU Interview[edit]

Dear JPG-GR,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.


So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.


Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. Invitation to events: bot, template, and Gadget makers wanted[edit]

I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the Chennai event in March, the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, or any other of our events.

Is it appropriate to recreate Template:Cr-IPL/Flags?[edit]

The template {{Cr-IPL/Flags}} has been deleted aa result of a deletion discussion this TFD discussion. There is a discussion going on at Talk:2012 Indian Premier League for a proposal to add the flags and this template may have to be recreated or restored. If it is appropriate, please let me know so that I can recreate it, or just undelete it (It is not an attack page nor a copyright violation) if not I may start a deletion review on the template. jfd34 (talk) 13:40, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Based on the discussion, the concern seems to be whether these are legit flags or just decorative uses of team colors on Wikipedia. If you can show that the flags depicted are used by the teams, there should be no issue re-adding them. If, however, they are in fact created only for use on Wikipedia, they should stay gone. Template:Infobox Indian jurisdiction[edit]

About a year ago you closed this discussion as "delete after necessary conversions/substitutions/what-have-you." During the discussion I raised issues (without making a !vote) about the practicality of doing the conversion, and indeed, almost a year later, nothing was done and the template is still very widely used (17986 transclusions). Merging[edit]

No one's answering me on WT:TOKU and you're frankly the only person I can trust on these matters. Seeing as the main villain list and the MMPR villain pages were deleted, undeleted, and then restored at AFD, DRV, and AFD again, I think it's about time that we end this practice of having multiple pages per series and simply have a singular list of characters.

This is obviously going to be difficult for the Zordon era because casts were retaind across multiple seasons, but I think we need to start with what I've coordinated at List of Power Rangers Lost Galaxy characters. AlienX2009 started it out but he is for some reason refusing to continue. With Leo Corbett (that guy really needs the boot but now that I've said it to you it can't be done by you) creating separate pages for all of the Megaforce characters (which I've reverted because we don't know shit after 2 episodes), I think we need to enforce this change.

I'm also thinking the Zords per season pages also need to go, but the only solution I can think of is just merging everything with Zord. It's obvious we're not going to find reliable sources to show the notability for anything beyond Turbo at best, so I think merging is going to be the better option than being blindsided by AFDs that we aren't made aware of until someone removes all the redlinks.—Ryulong (琉竜) 19:18, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dino Charge[edit]

You hadn't been party to the mess that the sockpuppets have been laying out. He moved every page he could when I posted the requested move and edited all of the redirects. He then keeps making his shit version of the Dino Charge page which wouldn't even last in the first place because it has all of one reference on it. Thank you for stepping in as the voice of reason in the colon debate. I had very little idea that this was the 5th time Ryulong tried adding the colons to the Power Rangers titles. I know now his section break addings were not only bullshit, but was only put there as schmuck bait of sorts as to discredit me. Wouldn't you agree that an unnecessary section break is not a "legitimate talk page comment" as described in the warning templates he quickly posted on my page? It is not part of the actual argument, it just disrupts it so his contradictions are harder to quote! Notice how the insistence of the section break uses flawed reasoning just as his insistence on the colons was. He arbitrarily chose what sources were legitimate or not. Like his 3rd party sources (which got more and more obscure) were more legitimate than mine he forced me to get. Even a quote where his own argument is acknowledged he discards because it was too close to the primary source. My block was BS and the appeals process was just a sham. Question about date of KFAR frequency change[edit]

I posted this on the Talk page for KFAR, but then I realized you might see it here sooner. Where did you find the information that KFAR "moved to 660 kHz in 1956"? An article in the Oct. 11, 1948, issue of Broadcasting shows KFAR at 660 then. See "KFAR, KENI Join MBS" on page 81 here. Can you please delete this KIS template I forgot after the merge?[edit]

I previously merged individual state KIS templates, some of which were created by you, and took them to MfD, where they were deleted without opposition. (such as Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:KIS/AK) I somehow forgot to include WP:KIS/MI among those. Since you were the original creator, I was wondering if you could delete it.   • Following a discussion on the backlog of unpatrolled files, consensus was found to create a new user right for autopatrolling file uploads. Implementation progress can be tracked on Phabricator.
  • The BLPPROD grandfather clause, which stated that unreferenced biographies of living persons were only eligible for proposed deletion if they were created after March 18, 2010, has been removed following an RfC.
  • An RfC has closed with consensus to allow proposed deletion of files. The implementation process is ongoing.
  • After an unsuccessful proposal to automatically grant IP block exemption, consensus was found to relax the criteria for granting the user right from needing it to wanting it.

Technical news

  • After a recent RfC, moved pages will soon be featured in a queue similar to Special:NewPagesFeed and require patrolling. Moves by administrators, page movers, and autopatrolled editors will be automatically marked as patrolled.

  • A newly revamped database report can help identify users who may be eligible to be autopatrolled.
  • A potentially compromised account from 2001–2002 attempted to request resysop. Please practice appropriate account security by using a unique password for Wikipedia, and consider enabling two-factor authentication. Currently around 17% of admins have enabled 2FA, up from 16% in February 2017.
  • Did you know: On 29 June 2017, there were 1,261 administrators on the English Wikipedia – the exact number of administrators as there were ten years ago on 29 June 2007. Since that time, the English Wikipedia has grown from 1.85 million articles to over 5.43 million.

  • You will now get a notification when someone tries to log in to your account and fails. If they try from a device that has logged into your account before, you will be notified after five failed attempts. You can also set in your preferences to get an email when someone logs in to your account from a new device or IP address, which may be encouraged for admins and accounts with sensitive permissions.
  • Syntax highlighting is now available as a beta feature (more info). This may assist administrators and template editors when dealing with intricate syntax of high-risk templates and system messages.
  • In your notification preferences, you can now block specific users from pinging you. This functionality will soon be available for Special:EmailUser as well.

  • Over the last few months, several users have reported backlogs that require administrator attention at WP:ANI, with the most common backlogs showing up on WP:SPI, WP:AIV and WP:RFPP. It should be noted that AIV reports are not always valid; however, they still need to be cleared, which may include needing to remind users on what qualifies as vandalism.
  • The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative is conducting a survey for English Wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works (i.e. which problems it deals with well and which problems it struggles with). ArbCom 2017 election voter message[edit]

Hello, JPG-GR. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
