Markvs88 - thanks for the offer of help - we're obviously new here. I work at the University of New Haven and am trying to update the page with non-marketing, factual copy. Obviously you're having an objection to some of the copy, which we wrote both for Wikipedia and for our website. Can we work through the objectionable copy together to come to something that will let us get this page updated and factually correct? After your first edit, we removed a few "marketing" type words and thought the rest of it was factual. Please advise as to what you want us to do. Yes, I see that you just started on WP today, and welcome! Please read the link on plagarism I posted above -- the way Wikipedia works is that you won't be able to just copy & paste directly into the article. You may want to consider setting up a wp:sandbox page in your user page to try out edits without working on the live article. I'd be happy to help out with that too. Note that you can get locked out for certain kinds of edits (and no one wants that!). I'm not against you or anyone else improving the article (actually, I'm rather for it!), but you will need to follow procedures. For example, per Wikipedia:WikiProject_Schools/Article_guidelines, mission statements are not to be included in articles... and there are lots of other points of advice in there too. You may also want to look at other schools such as University of Connecticut or Yale to get some ideas. In general, the content you add should be cited by reliable wp:sources, such as the New Haven Register, NBC, etc. Feel free to write to me anytime, your talk page is on my watchlist. Markvs88, I see on other University wiki pages they also reference their own websites fairly frequently. I would like to get our page updated and am willing to work through the changes with you. Hello Gunners131313... yes, referencing the subject's own page is allowed, but copy & pasting directly off of them won't work due to the plagarism rule. I see your sandbox page at User:Gunners131313/sandbox. Here are my initial suggestions:
  1. Work at improving one section at a time (even if it takes a day or two). It will be less likely to get reverted, and is more likely to be constructively edited.
  2. I'm going to put in Citation Needed tags. You don't need to replace every one before moving content, but it would probably help.
  3. Don't use contractions. (i.e: Connecticut instead of CT).
  4. Copy and pasted content will be deleted for sure. " the Steinhauser Study Center, and a fully-equipped Machine Shop" & "The University of New Haven was founded in 1920 as the New Haven YMCA Junior College" are examples of this. If you didn't write it, don't copy it.
  5. Try to merge as much of the existing document into your sandbox.
  6. "In recent years" - Add in the year or span of years. As time passes, it becomes impossible to tell when something was and eventually it'll just get deleted.
  7. Try to think how you would want something to read if you were reading it in an encyclopedia.

Hello Gunners131313! Not sure you noticed, but I did add "(this section needs to be rewritten to not be a copy & paste)." in front of the first sentence, as you do need to rewrite it -- copy & pasting off the Internet isn't acceptable per wp:plagarism. (IE: the first sentance is verbatim out of the 2004 student handbook. The bit about "Maxcy Hall, the Gate House" is here: [www.newhaven.edu/about/3928]... etc.) I would also find the other two citations first, especially the name change one. I did see that note from you on the history section. I was hoping to just insert the following text into the introduction page. We will be re-writing the history section.

The University of New Haven is a private university that combines an liberal arts education with professional training. The university comprises five colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, the Tagliatela College of Engineering, the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, and University College for adult students.[1]

Founded in 1920, the university is located in West Haven, Connecticut, which borders the larger city of New Haven and Long Island Sound. In the five years leading up to 2011 the university’s undergraduate and graduate student enrollment increased by 28% and as of fall 2011 totals approximately 5,950 students. First-year students in fall 2010 had an average high school GPA of 3.3 and an average SAT score of 1051.[2]

The University is a member of the Northeast-10 Conference and its mascot is the Charger, a medieval war horse. In 2008-2009, new student applications increased 100 percent.[3] New facilities, including the David A. Beckerman Recreation Center, the new $46 million Soundview residence hall, and the Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science which opened in 2010.[4]

Situated on 82 acres overlooking the Connecticut shoreline the main campus is 90 minutes by train to New York City and 2 ½ hours from Boston. Five satellite campuses are located in:

U.S. News & World Report magazine has named the university among the top-tier regional universities in the North for in its annual “America’s Best Colleges” rankings.[6]

Hi Markvs88,

We are re-writing the majority that was taken from our website and are locating many, many more sources for our content.

Great, and good luck with that. As always, remember that doing several smaller updates is better than one big one.
For the logo, you should be able to do it in the following manner: Choose upload file, then choose Organization under "It is the logo of an organization, brand, product, public facility, or other item". (Make sure the file isn't too high resolution. Here are examples: [[1]], [[2]]). Give it a good destination filename ("UNewHaven_logo.svg" or something like that.) Choose "Logo" in the Licensing pull-down. Fill out the information as best you can... you can use the examples above as guides. Best, Markvs88 (talk) 19:36, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of File:University of New Haven Logo.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on File:University of New Haven Logo.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. September 2017[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to New Haven Chargers. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks!
