Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

  • By indicating this is "your ship", I take you mean that you are in the Navy and have served/are serving aboard this ship? Perhaps you even knew Price? This is why we have COI guidelines, because some people are too involved with the subject of an article, and they end up causing disruption. By edit-warring today, that is what you were doing. When I removed the edit, perhaps you noticed that my edit summary stated that the info was not in the attached ref. Did you even check? Because like almost all obituaries, it doesn't mention cause of death when it's suicide. So right there that edit can't stand because it wasn't fully supported. But that doesn't mean go and find a source that mentions the cause of death either. The article is about the ship, not her crew. We don't include information about non-notable crew members including names, even commanding officers, unless it's the person is notable and the information is relevant. From an encyclopaedic stand-point, this event is neither. In the future, if you would like to add or change information about this or any other ship you've served on, then please post it on the article talk page so that an uninvolved editor can review it and either add it for you or give you direction. Notes[edit]

Hi! Here are the notes I promised you:

  • Avoid using terms like "notable" "most famous" and so on, unless you're directly attributing them to someone. The reason for this is that terms like this are subjective and can be seen as both opinions and judgement calls on something or someone. As such, what may be true for one person may not be for the next person and terms like this can even come across as promotional, even if this isn't your intent.
  • This content comes across as disjointed, as it's a collection of random information rather than a coherent whole. I would definitely review the live article to see how the article is written, as well as articles like the one on George Washington for style guides.
  • Make sure that you don't insert original research - we can only summarize what has been explicitly stated in the source material.
  • Try to find more sourcing - you don't want to rely too heavily on only a few sources. The sourcing doesn't have to be in English, so if you're able to read Japanese you can use Japanese sources.
