HR 669[edit]

Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to Raúl_Grijalva and several other articles about U.S. Congressmen. Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. Please stop adding disparaging comments about HR 669 to articles about Congressmen. Yes, I read through the bill. Your statement is your own opinion about it, reflecting your interests and biases. If you want to tell the world what's wrong with the bill, I suggest that you start a blog, write letters to the editor, and write your own Congressman -- just don't use Wikipedia for this purpose. While I agree that wikipedia is probably not the forum for it, my statement was factual, not opinion. Assuming you are a pet owner, how would you feel if a law was passed that prohibited you from taking your dog or cat across state lines, even temporarily? What if you decided to move to take a job or to be closer to a family member in a different state and you had to leave your pet behind, except that you can't sell or give it away to anyone (including shelters) so the only recourse would be putting the pet down? You wouldn't even be able to leave the pet to anyone in your will should it survive you!

Not to single it out amongst the other junk that comes out of congress these days, but this piece of legislation is a disaster in the making, like using a sledgehammer to hang a picture on the wall! I feel better after watching the testimony this morning since it is clear that nothing even closely resembling this bill will ever make it to a full vote, thanks to participants like Marshall Meyers. Tucson images[edit]

Hi there,

Sorry about the image deletions, I came across a user who almost certainly was lying about the copyright status of a bunch of images, I found a few of them on the web that were clearly there before they were on-wiki. A few of them were kind of fluff images, like File:Continental Ranch.jpg, which was an aerial image of a suburban housing development, an image of a golf course which claimed that it used reclaimed water for irrigation (but it really just looked like a golf course) and an image of the Westin La Paloma resort to decorate the section on North Tucson. The image that I thought was a nice addition was an aerial image of aircraft sitting at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, though it was pretty much decoration, too. These are all nice images to have in the article, but not when they're almost certainly images that the user found out on the web. If you're interested in taking some yourself, that would be fantastic, though I wouldn't worry too much about trying to duplicate the ones deleted. Just get some nice iconic shots from each neighborhood to add some color to those sections. However, I have listed an image of the Pima County Courthouse and I'm about to list an image of the Unisource Energy Tower for deletion, and those are both images that would be very nice to have, so if you can take decent photos of those two buildings and replace them, it would be very nice. Please let me know if I can be of any help in getting those photos uploaded.

I visited Tucson a few months ago and quite enjoyed it. I wish I had taken some more photos.

I can get pictures of the courthouse and Unisource tower, no problem. Both photos appear in several articles, so they would be missed. It might take me a few days to get them, though - how long do I have until the current pictures are deleted? I was suspicious of that map myself - unless the uploader is the publisher of that map it is probably a violation.

I was already going to get a few more photos, including one of downtown from "A" Mountain for the infobox. I think the photo of La Paloma might be nice, along with photos of a couple more resorts in town. I can't duplicate the aerial photo, of course, but it probably won't be missed - everyone has access to aerial photos these days. The photo of the golf course is more relevant since there are something like 32 of them in town and they use a lot of our scarce resource, water, so the reclamaton issue is probably worth illustrating. Do you know what golf course it was? Can you send me a url to the same photo on the internet?

As for the boneyard, it is difficult to get a good photo of it from the ground, but I can get a photo of some of the planes in the Pima Air Museum, which is almost as good. I may be able to think of a few more - what pictures do you have from your visit, and what do you wish you would have gotten?

Hope you were here more than a few months ago - June, July, and August are our worst months, like the dead of winter in Minnesota! Even May can be unbearable - I think we broke 100 for the first time here in late April this year. The best time to visit is February or March, and that is a great time to get out of MN as well! I took a ton of photos from A Mountain while I was there, I'll see if any look decent. I'll figure out a way for you to see the golf course photo. Do you use IRC? Nicely done on the replacement photos. I was there at the end of May, and I actually found it to be quite nice. I travel pretty extensively, and I don't get to pick my itinerary, so I've been to some pretty hot places in the dead of summer. Tucson wasn't that bad, though I didn't really do a ton of walking outside. I wound up spending one day doing a day trip up to the Grand Canyon (a long ways, but I'd never been there and I wasn't sure when I'd get back out to the southwest again, so I had to do it,) one day walking around town, one day driving around including going up to the top of A Mountain, and then four days working. :) kmccoy (talk) 05:14, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Punctuation and quotation marks[edit]

Hi, Eegorr. I noticed that in some recent edits, you have been moving punctuation marks such as periods to be inside quotation marks (e.g., changing ". to ."). I wonder if you are aware of the guideline at MOS:LQ, which explains the Wikipedia standard for how quotation marks relate to other punctuation. In some instances you have changed the punctuation contrary to the guideline. For example, in this edit, you moved a period inside the quotation marks, when the period did not appear in the original material that was being quoted. I know that some style guidelines call for punctuation to be handled this way, but Wikipedia's guidelines say to include the period inside the quotation marks only if it was part of the original quoted material.
