No problem[edit]

No problem. Oh, and don't worry about the 3RR; reverting vandalism doesn't count. Deltabeignet 22:03, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks very much, i'm glad to contribute to this great project.

Greetings[edit]

Thanks for welcoming me to the Wikipedia project. I have been reading the editing pages, and am particularly interested in the addition of images to pages. However, as I'm sure you know, it is very confusing for a first time editor. It is difficult to know whether an image is Fair Use or not.

My interest to start with was to add certain pharmacological items to the website. It would be much easier for people to identify these items if there is an image to relate to. I've read through the image tagging, and I feel that if the image comes from the makers of the product and is fully accredited to them, it should come under fair use.

Please let me know if you disagree, or if you have any pointers.

Many thanks,

Jess. --Brerbunny 02:14, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright is very difficult. There are some cases which are clearly fair use like cover images, logos and captures and therefore there are special categories for those kinds of images ( Wikipedia:Fair_use#Images ), but most images don't fall in the blanket categories.
The problem is not the accreditation, but the nature and effect of the use of the image upon the market. That is why the blanket categories are "advertisement" categories, since the uses of those images has no effect on the market value of the image since there is no direct value to those images because they are made for the purpose of advertisement.
You might like to check with somebody at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Fair_use because they are experts on the matter. Dr Debug (Talk) 02:22, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RFA[edit]

Hi, just wanted to thank you for voting on my RFA, which went through with a count of (58/0/1), far better than I'd expected. I intend to take things slowly and start using the extra abilities gradually, but if there's anything I can do just leave a message. Cheers, CTOAGN (talk) 13:40, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Celtkin[edit]

Thanks for adding Celtkin to the vandalism page. You beat me to it by 2 seconds.  :) Monkeyman 15:20, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question regarding Categories[edit]

Hi Dr Debug,

I'm still trying to learn my way around. I have a question regarding Categories. Can you answer or point me to the right person who would know the following answer?

This guy Theathenae is telling me that [Macedonian singers] falls under a singer from Macedonia disambiguation article but the category [Macedonian singers] is under [Singers by nationality]. Wouldn't that make the [Macedonian singers] category singers from [ROM]? Thank you. ~Mallaccaos, 7 February 2006

As you probably know there is a huge political controversy about the term Macedonia, however Category:Greek singers is meant for the singers in Greece and Category:Macedonian singers is meant for singers in R.O.M. because it is about the country and there is no subdivision of Greek singers and there is no need to subdivide it into seperate parts. Dr Debug (Talk) 20:07, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I thought. I tried to tell Theathenae that but his not listing. And this one Run threaten to report me to an admin for "editing" the Despina Vandi article in which the only thing I did was take out the Category:Macedonian singers. So I have no clue as to what his/she is talking about. Can you help with this? Thank you. ~Mallaccaos
Disregard above message. I just read what you left on my talk page. Once again, thank you for the advice. ~Mallaccaos
Your welcome, I've kept a watch on Vasilis Karras because the both of you can't edit on the page since you have done 3 reverts already which means that the 4th revert will be a 24hour ban for the both of you. If I see a change on that page, I will revert it back to you in your favor because I agree with the "Greek singers" as the appr. category. However this is hard political battle, so I will try to keep an eye out. I've reverted Despina Vandi. If this matter cannot be resolved, please go for Wikipedia:Requests for comment because this mainly political. Dr Debug (Talk) 20:23, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If the "Macedonian" categories are meant to exclude people like me who are Macedonian but are not interested in being associated with the fYROM, then they are misnamed. That the Pope is a "Catholic Christian" does not mean that he is not "Christian". Just because I am a "Greek Macedonian" does not mean that I am not "Macedonian". If a category is meant to be exclusively for a specific subset of Macedonians, it should have a name that reflects that. Regards, Sysin 23:28, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Category is by country and not by region or ethnic group. If you want the list by ethnic group then go file a Request for Comments. Dr Debug (Talk) 23:30, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thank you for that message. I'm thinking he wants to make these templates of the more complicated formulas and upload them as these small .png files, as it may be more tidy than using all that coding. But thank you; your kind response is appreciated! --DanielCD 21:02, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome =) Even though english is not my mother language, i'll do my best to help.

AfD and Scorpion0422[edit]

Hello Dr: Could I ask you to please not bite the newbies? While I understand that Scorpion0422 has been removing his and your comments from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/NoHomers.net page, it most likely stems from the fact that he is a new user, and doesn't understand how our processes work here. Thanks. Regards, Bratschetalk | Esperanza 03:48, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He just made that account. He was an IP before that and used the IP and the account alternating. He is not a new user, but a user with a record of vandalism. Dr Debug (Talk) 03:49, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Macedonian[edit]

If the category is intented to be about people who are from the fYROM, it should be called "Singers from the Republic of Macedonia" or something less ambiguous. The problem with the current naming is that a) There are more Macedonians who are not associated with the RoM than there are Macedonians who are, and b) About 1/3 or the people living in RoM (and, presumably, a similar percentage of artists) are ethnic Albanians who would be offended if they were to be called "Macedonian". The category names should at least be consistent with the names of the articles involved. Both Macedonia and Macedonian(s) lead to pages that include both Slavs and autochthonous Macedonians. World's Smallest Political Quiz[edit]

Hi! I saw that you had reverted and removed some of my comments. The history says (removed comments). Are you saying you reverted to remove my comments, or because I removed comments? As a newbie, I wante to clear out the resolved and dead comments. Was the edit I did wrong on this? How do old comments, no longer under discussion get removed? Is there a process I am supposed to use? Let me know if how I can be a better editor in the future. You can reply on my talk page. Looking forward to your help. Thanks! Ok, i'll check in another browser. I'm in Firefox right now. Karmafist 16:57, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

you might not have noted the comments at the end of the statement that clearly refer to own research without verifyable sources. The artice tries to atttack a teacher of that school. Tried to mark it for deletion but that was edited over. Agathoclea 00:18, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sachs story[edit]

Notifying about an apparent sock puppet[edit]

Original story moved to User_talk:Dr_Debug/archive1

Thank you Dr Debug, I appreciate your approach. I must apologize for myself. I do not know what has caused this passion in me. Just seeing this happen to my alma mater when my rival high schools are able to present such detailed and promising articles about their schools when there are definitely problems at their school grows a feeling of contempt. I'm sure you know how it feels to oppose rival schools. My real goal in the end is not this part, but rather to make it as comprehensive and great as the articles for Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, La Guardia, and other academically rigorous peer institutions. I feel that their alumni and parents have much control over the website as I was looking through their comments and I do not know who this Tenebrae man is, while he is always demanding that I tell him who I am. Hopefully in the weeks to come we can work together to make this as great a website as the other schools. I would definitely like help on this because I did not realize there were all these policies. I guess I took this site lightly as far as tone is concerned for the article. I am sorry if I ever had a misgiving and would love to see how I can make it work. Thank you. Becos 04:37, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's fine. I archived the original story, so that's now out of sight and out of mind. Dr Debug (Talk) 04:55, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You[edit]

Please edit it at will, my goals are pretty simple, I might have gotten too grandiose.

  1. A clear and easy way to create, modify and remove policies and guidelines by the community, likely a sociocratic legislature of some sort.
  2. A belief that all Wikipedians have the right to feel free from intimidation from others, likely from those policies and guidelines as a guide to participate here by.
  3. An arbcom that interprets policies and guidelines when they're not clear, like an actual court.

And that's pretty much it. Ok, i'm going to try my best to stay away from Wikipedia for the rest of the day. This place is too addictive, and it has caused me far too much stress lately. Karmafist 08:06, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that's a clear message. I know about the stress with the current setup. I tried to focus on trying to instruct some newbies because there is significantly less vandalism and stress involved with that. Still you run into some serious assholes from time to time and I really can't be bother with them. I've taken a good look at the top as well. That's why I put quite a number of votes lately hoping that it will dillute it a bit and that the people prone to Cabalism will be stopped. You are a very good admin BTW I'm going for the 2000 welcomes as well. Maybe I'll even beat you ;) Dr Debug (Talk) 08:55, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page answering[edit]

You shouldn't answer people's Reference\Help Desk questions on their talk page. It takes away the chance of other users to offer more insight and correct any information you may give, as well it goes against our "rules" of using these services.

For example, if someone asks a factual question at the Help Desk and you answer it on their talk page, you'll be not only encouraging the person to post questions in the incorrect place (HD instead of RD) and still get an answer, but you're also avoiding that person to ask and discuss the topic with other wikipedians.

So please, keep answers on the Help\Reference desk, and direct users to the proper Desk instead of answering anything on talk pages. ☢ Ҡiff 13:12, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't you read the "Please give me a heads up on my talk page if you could" part? And the problem with the content was solved as you can see on this page as well. And I don't care about "your" rules. Dr Debug (Talk) 16:23, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the greeting[edit]

Hi,

I found the site by searching on Google for the name of my neighborhood. I was shocked at the inaccuracy of the description by someone who apparently doesn't live here or know the history. So, I signed up, checked the instructions, and got to work.

Thanks! This is a great portal for information. Michael Milliken Pres Oak Lawn Comm 21:37, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What the?[edit]

Can please somebody tell me why the additions I made to various entries were removed? These were valid pages from a reviews site referring to those artists? You´ll delete these links whilst you include reviews and interviews from other resources? I look forward to these links being restored. Screaming For Emily 21:54, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

UK-Fusion is not a fan site but one that receives CDs to review by various PRs and record companies. Just like the BBC, musicomh.com and many others you feature on your site. If you don´t restore my links, I´ll assume you´ll delete those links too. For the sake of consistency. Screaming For Emily 21:57, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It depends on the amount of sites added. Your only contributions seems to be adding the same site to dozens of pages and please don't compare UK-Fusion with The BBC because that's on a totally different level. There is a policy at Wikipedia:External links and most sites can be deleted and in case of major artists the only sites which are allowed to stay are the official site and some really major sites. The reason why it is not done on some artists is because it hasn't gotten out of hand. If I see somebody add the same site to many pages then it's considered spamming and the links are removed as linkspam. The reason why a single addition is usually allowed is because there is no need to intervene yet. I will certainly not readd your links to the site and I suggest that you won't readd them because they can be removed according to policy regarding external links. Dr Debug (Talk) 22:01, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just following the guidelines[edit]

I quote: "What should be linked to Sites with other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article, such as textbooks or reviews." If you´d bothered to check the links before deleting them, you´ll find these "reviews" include "meaningful, relevant content". They will provide information about an artist/band for people hungry for anything else they can find out about the band. Do you see my point? I am a journalist by profession, so by definition I produce professional reviews. So I don´t see the need to delete them. I reiterate: we are not a fan site. In your own words: "For albums, movies, books: one or two links to professional reviews which express some sort of general sentiment." Do you see? Screaming For Emily 22:22, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a collection of websites. An official site is relevant. A single major fansite is usually relevant and a notable very big site is relevant. A site which doesn't even have an Alexa ranking ( http://www.alexa.com/data/details/?url=www.uk-fusion.com ) is not relevant and does not meet any criteria of notability. Dr Debug (Talk) 22:27, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RE: LOL. You were quicker with the revert[edit]

Hi Dr Debug. Yep. I can sometimes go for ages thinking that I have reverted when in fact somebody has beaten me to the punch! :) Cheers TigerShark 22:37, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I´m still a little confused[edit]

The content is pertinent to each artist. It gives the user some valuable insight. I´m not sure how what I did compares when you allow Gandhi´s entry to include the allegation that he was killed by a kick by Chuck Norris. A Chuck Norris who is also regarded as the Father of the modern Indian nation. Now that is weird. And surely against the guidelines? Screaming For Emily 22:39, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your site has no Alexa rating so it isn't among the 1,000,000 most popular sites and it has an amazing 34 sites linking in. Most blogs have higher creditials like that. Dr Debug (Talk) 22:41, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your advice, Doc[edit]

We´ll work on our Alexa rating. Then, in the words of some actor-turned-politician or other, I´ll be back! Screaming For Emily 23:07, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
