August 2023[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Greenville, NC MSA. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. signed, Rosguill talk 01:25, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Disco i got a question about the existence of the flag of Statesville[edit]

theres probably a reason why people keep adding is because on the iredell county page theres the courthouse area and the image shows a unknown blueish-red flag below the North Carolina flag Iredell County, North Carolina I only added my recreation of the flag based on that image on the iredell County courthouse because i honestly think it could be the flag of Statesville but then again it could also be something else Francowremoris (talk) 01:56, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

They definitely have a third flag on that flagpole https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Iredell_County_Courthouse_-_Statesville,_NC.jpg i found this higher quality rip of the courthouse image on the wiki Francowremoris (talk) 02:06, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I reconstructed the unknown flag on the flagpole of the iredell county courthouse[edit]

maybe this is the flag of Statesville https://prnt.sc/6HNKK37R7P0t Francowremoris (talk) 02:42, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder if you can decide to add it with the evidence i found Francowremoris (talk) 02:43, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Table for communities in Richland County, South Carolina[edit]

I just happen to notice that there was a table being used for the communities and while I think that is a bit overkill, it should be corrected by having the name first then type. After all, it is already sorted by name and the type is just an attribute to it. Just an idea. --WashuOtaku (talk) 22:10, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Washuotaku Just applied the edits, many thanks for the idea. Have a great day! DiscoA340 (talk) 22:20, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

City name[edit]

Please refrain from adding the name of the state to be part of a city name in various infoboxes. You have not provided any reliable sources that indicate that the state is a part of the city name. The name of the city in the infobox does not have to fit with the pagename. Canterbury Tail talk 11:49, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Canterbury Tail For US city articles, I've always seen the state name being used in the infobox, especially since there are many cities with the same name. There is also nothing in the template instructions which prohibits adding the state name. I would recommend you start a discussion about it there. DiscoA340 (talk) 12:09, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can you point out which cities they are? As all the main examples do not. Either way, I will not preform the same edits again. Canterbury Tail talk 12:36, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Canterbury Tail - Almost all non-major/moderately sized cities and below in the US have the state name in the infobox. It would be hard to find definite examples since there are so many, but a few I found are Reno, Nevada; Meridian, Mississippi; Clovis, New Mexico; and Ogden, Utah. I've always taken off the state name for the larger cities, but I don't think the articles I added the name back to were notable enough. But as previously mentioned, there is no official template instruction on this issue and I believe it's largely left the editor to decide. I was just trying to keep the articles standard with other US pages like them. I definitely think you should consider starting a discussion on the template talk page if you don't agree with the style. Have a good day! DiscoA340 (talk) 14:45, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thruway Center, Winston-Salem[edit]

What do you think so far?— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 20:31, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vchimpanzee: Looking good so far; it's well-sourced and informative! If you live close-by, you should consider taking a picture of it and adding it to the article. I looked on both Wikimedia Commons and Flickr and found no images available. This is a more personal choice but I would also recommend adding convert templates to number stats in the article. Other than that, it looks good; keep up the good work and have a great day! -- DiscoA340 (talk) 21:32, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't live close by. My cousin wanted me to visit him and I used that as an excuse to drive that distance. Convert templates are too hard but I might consider it once the rest is done.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 23:44, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vchimpanzee: Ok, sounds good. Another possible option for getting an image could be filing a request at Commons:File requests. I'm not 100% sure they take requests, but User:Indy beetle also takes pictures for Commons and seems to frequently travel around NC; it might be worth asking them as well. Have a great day! -- DiscoA340 (talk) 23:55, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I assumed you were in the Winston-Salem area. However, I wasn't sure how many articles should have blue links. I try to look at articles I write or additions to existing articles as if people from other countries are reading them, but this article might not get much attention from people outside the area.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 16:36, 18 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Vchimpanzee: Unfortunately, I don't live close to Winston-Salem and I don't have any plans to travel there anytime soon. I still think it's worth (assuming they take requests) to ask Indy beetle, because they live near Raleigh, NC, which is somewhat close to Winston-Salem. Have a great day! -- DiscoA340 (talk) 17:00, 18 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I pass through Winston-Salem to go to Pfafftown sometimes. This is rather infrequent but I'll make a note of this. -Indy beetle (talk) 08:12, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Indy beetle: Many thanks for doing this! Here are the coordinates to the mall. It is just off of US 421 on South Stratford Road in Winston-Salem. Again, thanks for doing this and have a great day! -- DiscoA340 (talk) 14:06, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I uploaded the Watauga County Courthouse since you were hoping to get a picture for all of them in NC and SC. It isn't the best photo but at least it gets it up on Wikimedia.
