It's important that you come to the talk page to discuss this, so that we can move forward to resolving the dispute. Comments in edit summaries are not sufficient. Please explain clearly why you think that the WP:NOTNEWS policy does not apply to your edits. Please do so on the article's talk page, not here. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at Hamilton, Texas. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing Wikipedia. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. Reply in regards to October, 2018[edit]

Hello, and thanks for your note. I have not in fact reverted changes from others, but have, several times, tried to add information about an incident that was widely reported recently. I re-wrote my change several times in an attempt to have a more neutral point of view, but ultimately, I think I've failed at that. I had no intention to engage in an edit war; rather, I felt it was important to note that it appears that a number of city officials in Hamilton either don't care about, or don't understand the first amendment. This is not simply news, it speaks to the character of the town. I think that it's something that anyone interested in living or working in Hamilton would like to know. For that reason, I think that section belongs in the article.

That said, it's clear that you and other, more experienced members of the community disagree, and that's OK. I'm not going to attempt to make further edits on that page of this nature. Thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia. I would be very interested to hear your response about whether this kind of first amendment violation speaks to the character of the town, because I think it does, but I'm willing to be overruled.

Hi Datagoat! Thanks for responding and for attempting to explain what you were trying to do. I understand that you didn't meant to edit war or butt heads with other editors. In the future, when you see changes you made to an article reverted or undone by someone else, by policy you're supposed to start a discussion on the article's talk page and discuss the disagreement with the others involved and come to a consensus together. Reverting changes to any article an in a back-and-fourth fashion between yourself and other editors is considered edit warring, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. It looks like you've already started a talk page discussion and in the correct place (which is here) - I encourage you to follow up and respond to them them if you feel that you disagree with their replies and work things out. The message I left you above was left simply to inform you of the existence of Wikipedia's policies on edit warring so that you don't find yourself in hot water over something you may not have known about.
