WHEC/Funke

First Funke is notable in the same way Maggie Brooks is notable in that they now are both elected politicians. He is also notable in relation to coverage of that station similarly to how Irv Weinstein is Notable with WKBW-TV Buffalo due to their name recognition with the station. Corky, I have not the slightest idea what was the problem with my recent edit to KCBS-TV, since it was factual and documentable and, as you were kind and generous enough to write, in "good faith." I edit Wikipedia very seldom, and only when I think something is missing; what I added was. Whatever did not meet Wikipedia's arcane guidelines for such a trivial edit, I've no idea. This doesn't really interest me enough to converse about, though I was curious enough about it to message you. I'm sure more engaged editors than me would bring me up to speed. @Lantana11: If you are referring to the removal of the staff members, then I removed them because they violate WP:LISTPEOPLE; they aren't notable. WikiProject TV Stations has discussed and decided that the only station staff members that should stay in the articles are those who either have a Wikipedia article (WP:LISTPEOPLE) or have a reliable source to back it up. The "Meet the Team" on the station's website is not a good source because it is a primary source. Just because a station lists its employees doesn't mean Wikipedia needs to as well. For the past month–month and a half, I have been going through articles cleaning out the staff sections where the team isn't notable, as well as removing the slogans and newscasts. (WNBC is a good example of notable people.) Wikipedia is also not a directory. See here, here, and here for previous discussions about this. Hope this explains it! No, you made the mistake of adding non-notable people to the article; it violates WP:LISTPEOPLE. The "Meet the Team" on the station's website is not a good source because it is a primary source. You'll need other sources other than the "Meet the Team" on the station's website to back it up. Just because a station lists its employees doesn't mean Wikipedia needs to as well. Also don't WP:REVTALK. Using edit summaries to discuss or debate isn't good. My tip/trick: If you're making the same edit a second time then you know someone disagrees with it. Be the first to post your explanation on talk page, make the edit, and use the edit summary to point the other person to the explanation on Talk. That establishes you as the cooperative editor initiating discussion, with the convenient bonus that your preferred version generally stays in place during the discussion. KCBS-TV Anchors

Corky, I believe we are talking about two entirely different things regarding this subject. I have added names to a directory that ALREADY exists. The additions are correct and current. "Notability" has not a thing to do with this, as it marginally might be with station "alumni" and former personalities. If Wikipedia is not in the business of offering directories, then should not the whole existing list be removed? How could an incomplete and thus incorrect listing of anchors be allowed to remain? I mean, for example, if there were a list of US Senators, would several states' representatives be left off the roster? And just who determines "notability" -- and on what basis? "Notability" has been defined for these purposes as having an individual Wikipedia article, which I think is arbitrary and almost circular logic (Wikipedia says you're notable because you're on Wikipedia). There are plenty of people who are former TV station personalities who are notable in their communities but don't have Wikipedia biographies. Most of the complete personnel lists can be found on the stations' Websites (although that's been criticized as a "primary source," which seems illogical because a TV station's news site would be accepted as a source for anything else). I agree that the list of current personnel should be either completely there or completely gone - otherwise, in many cases, it inaccurately looks like three people comprise the station's entire news operation. 67.197.243.87 (talk) 10:05, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
@Lantana11: No we are not. We are talking about the addition of the non-notable staff members that were made by you (This edit and This edit). They violate WP:LISTPEOPLE. If you look above, I gave the reason as to why the names can't stay on here.
When editing these lists, I could insert {{inc video}}, which states that it is an incomplete list. Some easy guidelines for whether they are notable or not are:
  1. Each person MUST meet Wikipedia:Bio requirements to ensure Notability.
  2. Each person MUST meet Wikipedia:Verifiability requirements to verify their notability and prove they attended the school.
  3. If the person has a Wikipedia article, then wikilink the persons name so it points at the article.
  4. If the person doesn't have a Wikipedia article, then add citation references to prove notability and attendance, other than the "Meet the Team" website. (This would be WP:SECONDARY & WP:THIRDPARTY.)
It is pretty simple. You can check the most recent archive on the WP:WikiProject Television Stations talk page, as the members, or other users that have talked on the page, have come to a consensus about the on–air staff. (here) CorkytheHornetfan (Talk) 13:38, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
Regarding the KCBS-TV anchors, well, you need not provide any further information. Even if it can be explained in any logical way why a freelance and fill-in reporter is notable and a lead anchor who has spent ten years with the station is not, then I think it would make my head hurt. Corkythehornetfan, regarding our conversation on this KCBS-TV anchor list, I sincerely hope that my comments did not convey any disrespectful or even insouciant tone. I do understand the points you made and, on the occasions when I do edit articles, follow them. I suppose I was trying to say that I do complain sometimes that the Wiki guidelines, in the pursuit of correctness, essential, take a follow-the-letter-but-miss-the-spirit kind of turn. But I may well be wrong, and what I think doesn't matter much anyhow. I'm glad Wiki is what it is, and I'm very sorry for any contentiousness. Self-revert needed at CKCO-DT

At the time you posted, "Yes, they dont mert those requirements. ill post on talk page my reason later when I'm on a computer.", diff, you knew that there was no consensus to change the article, and your edit comment is not a response to the reasons for the restoration of consensus.  The statement "they don't mert those requirements" is incoherent.  In the WP:BRD sequence, the discussion occurs after the first revert, not after a second revert.  So you also changed the article while stipulating that discussion was needed and in disregard of WP:BRD.  I propose that you self-revert.  Unscintillating (talk) 23:59, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

@Unscintillating: Did you read the talk page of CKCO-DT? I explained AND gave three links where it has been discussed. It doesn't mean just that article, but all television station articles. It was suppose to say meet instead of mert.. forgive the typo. Later today, I did post on the talk page here when I used my computer. Last night, I edited from my phone and did not want to explain it using the phone. Here is what I said on the talk page:
I will not revert my edit. Mine is right, I've been going through many articles doing the same thing, and so have others. Just because you didn't like one edit to an article you edit, doesn't mean your edit is right. WP:WikiProject Television Stations has had several discussions, which are listed in the quote by the way, and they have decided multiple times that NON-notable staff do not meet WP:LISTPEOPLE. How soon after are you going to restore it? If you have it deleted and then decide to restore it because you want it back then it wouldn't be. Al Jazeera America / Reason I did that

The reason I did that in the interest of Fairness. I constructed most of that page and the Al Jazeera Pages have been unfairly targeted in the past when other pages have not been affected. Such is the world of United States cable news where there favorites and enemies on every side, It is a sensitive situation. I apologize for resisting at every turn but that is the reason.

NOTE: I also believe that the rules surrounding things like correspondents and on air personnel should be changed. The newer channels do not have the bigger names like the older ones and deleting names that do not have pages yet (I'm working on that) gives an appearance of things being different than they actually are. If they are hosting they are notable for at least that. Also if they are the main feature of a program such as News (Al Jazeera America) it does not make sense to get rid of them as it then does not give an accurate picture of the program (Mo2010 (talk) 9:27, 9 December 2014 (UTC))

I understand that, but I think it needs to be discussed after you revert it on the talk page; the edit summary is fine, but I don't want to edit war. If I have to, then I'll write on the talk pages before I start removing the information. It should be clear by now that I and others are working on removing the names if they don't meet guidelines. So instead of reverting, wait until 1) they have an article 2) just leave them off of the page.
As for your note, make sure those people are notable per WP:BLP. If they aren't notable, they might get put up for deletion. They have to have reliable sources and third-party sources, not just primary. And I'm going to say something I've mentioned before, "Why do I, or others, care who the correspondents or anchors are for the program, especially if they haven't done anything notable?" Format of the first sentence

"If the article's title does not lend itself to being used easily and naturally in the opening sentence, the wording should not be distorted in an effort to include it:" MOS:BOLDTITLE I realize for some reason Wikipedia does not honor official branding but since the full name of the school is listed at the end of the first sentence, repeating the distorted (illegal in Louisiana) hyphenated version is not "easily and naturally" as required. CBS Evening News "Western Edition" Edit

I have a couple of questions regarding your recent edit of the "CBS Evening News" Wikipedia page.

1) Is there a reason as to why the airing times of this program were completely removed?

2) In regards to the following sentence:

"For viewers in the Pacific Time Zone, CBS broadcasts a separate "Western Edition" live, an hour after the main broadcast, in Pacific Time which is tape delayed to viewers in Alaska & Hawaii."

If the East coast edition airs live at 6:30pm ET and a separate "Western" edition airs live at 6:30pm PT (which would be 9:30pm ET), how can you state that the Western edition airs one hour after the East coast airing? Should that sentence actually say "three hours after the main broadcast"? Unless.....the Western Edition is NOT live but actually pre-recorded at 7:30pm ET?

I removed them because Wikipedia is not a TV Guide. I didn't really think it through on how it read, I just removed the times. The newscast is tape-delayed and airs 5:30 p.m. Pacific, so it would be the three hour difference. I realize the mistake, and have reverted my edits. WJW (TV) Alumni change

Hello. Listen, why did you take off Jeff Maynor and Jim Hale? They were anchors on City Camera News/Newscenter 8 during the 1976-77 season (and after Storer purchased the station). There are the videos on YouTube under "WJKW" as proof. Mahjong705 (talk) 21:40, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

@Mahjong705: Lists of people must meet the criteria listed at WP:LISTPEOPLE. If a name is included in the article in this way, it has to show that it's relevant to the subject by meeting WP:LISTPEOPLE. Mayor and Hale didn't meet the Wikipedia notability requirement (no wiki article, no reliable sources, etc). WP:WikiProject Television Stations members basically said that if the person doesn't have a Wikipedia article, they aren't notable. As for the YouTube sources, they are not reliable. Why should I, or anyone else for that matter, care about who Maynor and Hale are? They may be notable in Cleveland, but here in Kansas or any other state, no one cares. I'm not sure who the comment dated November 10, 2014 on the 2014–15 Abilene Christian Wildcats women's basketball team Wiki page advising to check for a logo prior to creating one was directed at, but since my username is the predominant one on the page, I am assuming it was directed at me.

If the intent was to direct the comment to me, I can assure you that it is misdirected. The original logo with the misspelling for Abilene was already on an existing Abilene Christian Wikipedia page when I created the new seasonal page. Anyway thanks for the logo update. Same with some of the other logos files you have changed on other pages. I don't have the tools to create one and only try to pick ones that have already been determined as acceptable for use or are at least currently in use without comment. Recent Radio 4 edits

Dear Corkythehornetfan,

I thought I'd message you on your on Talk page as per the guidelines. I received a message stating that my "edits appear to be disruptive" and a note from you saying "please quit adding them; if not, you may be blocked" Please can I confirm that it was not my intention to cause conflict in this matter. I thought I was doing the right thing by re-adding them ('re-adding' being the key word; I wasn't adding them from scratch as the names were already there and have been for a substantial amount of time) but you've suggested otherwise. Let me assure you that I have taken your advice on-board from the 'Talk' section of the R4 page and shall no longer re-add any of the names without any 3rd party sources. However, I don't appreciate the implication that I went out my way to be disruptive as that certainly wasn't the case; I'm sure there are plenty of users on here who go out their way to abuse page content, but that certainly doesn't line up with what I was doing. That's fine. The names are still going to be removed due to WP:LISTPEOPLE. They may have sources, but most articles dealing with the media are leaning towards those with Wikipedia articles. That is what the users are calling "notable"; people with Wikipedia articles. I'm not sure that you understood what I meant by no primary sources and no published own websites. You cannot use the persons personal website because anyone can make that it is not a third-party source. If you disagreed with it, you should have talked about on the talk page, and not edit war. We both violated it and both could have been blocked, but that didn't happen. She isn't notable per WP:LISTPEOPLE. Until she meets those guidelines, she isn't notable. Although she may be notable in the local area/state of WXIN, she isn't notable throughout the United States. Therefore, she shall not be included in the article and until she meets WP:LISTPEOPLE. Also, her own website is a primary source and means nothing to me, as well her biography on the station's website. There would have to be third-party sources if she were to be included. Question about the map you created on the MIAA page?

@UCO2009bluejay: I created it using various blank maps on Commons and then went to a website that allowed me to put the states together (I Googled the locations to try and get them in the correct area). Drexel Basketball

In the case of the Drexel basketball page, there is no reason to not have the box scores listed as a source along with the final scores of games. There are many major basketball programs that have the box scores included on their team schedule, especially a number of those whose schedules includes the stat leaders in points, rebounds, and assists for each game. While a number of team's schedules do not include the box scores, from what I have seen more pages are adding these box scores over the past few seasons. It does no harm to the page and simply adds a source of information for otherwise unsourced material. By the way, I was responding to your edits via the talk page for the team. I didn't mean to ignore you in any way. In retrospect, I should have contacted you via your talk page and discussed more. If you feel it is necessary I do not have any problem with opening a discussion on WP:WikiProject College basketball. Hopefully it will draw a more universal conclusion as to which format to standardize since it is apparently inconsistent among many team pages. @Zachlp: Just because a team lists a boxscore on their schedule page, doesn't mean Wikipedia needs to. The template has fields like highest rebounder, highest scorer, etc., which is good enough... they don't need to be linked. I would much rather see the urls be used as references rather than external links. I think it would look much better. In regards to you responding to me by using the talk page for the team, I don't see where you edited on the talk page. All you were doing was talking while reverting, which just causes an edit war and nothing gets accomplished. I'll ask other trusted users who belong to WP:WikiProject College basketball and have them respond on the talk page of the team's article. I think others need involved in this. @Ng35k: Hello. I will not call you, nor will I communicate with you outside of Wikipedia. This is for privacy reasons. The edit made by me on November 22 is pretty simple: WP:LISTPEOPLE. The names were removed because they are not notable per WP:LISTPEOPLE. They did not have a Wikipedia article, nor did they have a reliable source to back them up. As for the edit made on 21 December by the IP, I cannot explain as that was somebody different. @NJ Jurrjens: I think you misunderstood. I didn't tag the File:Colorado Buffaloes alternate logo.gif, but I did tag the File:Colorado Buffaloes alternate logo.png file. Had you considered how rude your repeated deletion of of good faith edits WP:GOODFAITH appears.

The edit is not a case of wp:vandalism:

Vandalism would call for reversion.

Wikpedia policy also says

That is the normal first response to an un-cited claim, flag it [citation needed], the fact that I did cite it that way, plus my comments indicated I am working on it should have stopped you deleting it, see Wikipedia:Revert_only_when_necessary.

"Revert vandalism upon sight but revert an edit made in good faith only after careful consideration. It is usually preferable to make an edit that retains at least some elements of a prior edit than to revert the prior edit. Furthermore, your bias should be toward keeping the entire edit. "

Just because I have a different editing style does not give you the right to remove content. That is also Wikipedia policy.

Map question

I just saw your question on my commons talk page, I pretty much don't go on that side except for image viewing. GACLocations came from the NCAA D2 Basketball Map. I cropped it and used paint to erase locations not in the GAC, very carefully along state lines, then modified the dot size and names for the locations. You won't have to worry about it but I also combined and slightly adjusted the dots for Henderson State and Ouachia Baptist since they are separated only by a 2-lane state highway in Arkadelphia. I had to use the basketball map because Oklahoma Baptist is not on the NCAA D2 Football Map. Although my GAC map does not show OKBU, I have an update ready to upload on July 1 when they officially join the conference. For your work on the MIAA, the football map would be easier to use. I think that the man who developed broadcasting services for Nigeria should be considered at least as notable as a Texas school or a professional sportsman. WP:LISTPEOPLE states that the criteria for inclusion on a list are the same as for having a Wikipedia article; Which seems wrong to me. @Cuprum17: I created the ESU userbox myself. The way I learned is by the pages I'm linking in the next few sentences... I basically learned as I went. I used the userbox template and looked at other userboxes in the education category to create the userbox (No non-free images). What genre are you looking at (military, sports, education, food, etc)? Wikipedia:Userboxes also helps out... it gives you info on how to construct a userbox, as well as naming it, etc. There is also a page for various genres (see Template:WP:UBS for more on that). NSU fight song (The best song for any college)

Hello, your recent addition to the article of the NSU Riverhawks page (Woo! GO RIVERHAWKS!) fight song is an understandably wrong change. I am a senior of our beloved NSU and have a 2011 Chevy spark (green and white) with our schools logo and mascot emblazoned onto the front hood and windows. My car horn plays the tune of our fight song. We here at our homely town of Tahlequah know our school song by heart and is a right of passage growing up in these here parts. I attend and rally my friends during every basketball, football, foosball, ultimate frisbee, and volleyball(but we watch it for the players [the men look nice in short shorts]). Once when I was a child my father beat me for getting saying a word wrong and I learned after the third beating to pronounce my words correctly. Couldn't help but do a "drive by" comment on this. I live in Kansas hard against the Oklahoma border and I have heard "staunch" pronounced "stanch". Since my mom was from Muldrow, Oklahoma, I grew up pronouncing "staunch" as "stanch". Minnesota State–Mankato

Hey, I was going to ask for assistance on this matter for clarification. I know the NSIC and (for Mankato) the WCHA call the Mavericks "Minnesota State" but otherwise the two schools are generally known as, including ncaa.com, "Minnesota State-M...". This was clearly evident during the football championship in Kansas City. I believe this is a COMMONNAME issue similar to Louisiana-Lafayette. Also, should the Mavericks team page be moved back to "Minnesota State–Mankato Mavericks" per COMMONNAME? I agree, it is more of a COMMONNAME issue. For right now, I think the Mavericks article should be moved back because there are two Minnesota State schools (Mavericks and Dragons). I've always heard others refer to schools like them as Minnesota State–Mankato. I would ask Dirtlawyer1 or Jweiss11, who have more knowledge about this subject than I do. Truman, Missouri Southern, and Missouri Western.

I was aware that there was discussion on the dropping of state in MSSU, and MWSU for athletics, but I was unaware of any conclusions. Normally I believe we are on much the same page and during your attempted ESU Hornets rename I was completely behind you. However, I was wondering about the TSU/Truman Bulldogs and the MIAA States. I know the Athletic Depts use "Missouri Western," and "Missouri Southern," but I am concerned with WP:Commonname. It may be due to UCO being new to the conference, but in radio/the Vista (newspaper) KFOR[3], etc. seem to use "State." ESPN is much less conclusive [4]. I trust your judgement and I haven't reverted such edits. However, I do believe that a [WP:Commonname] consensus discussion may be necessary, if for nothing else to resolve this issue. It could be as simple as a Middle Tennessee, and Bowling Green (State) issue, and not a U(Louisiana)-Lafayette. I have no preference either way, but do think that a discussion is inevitable. When referring to ESPN, we need to be careful (in my opinion). Yes they are considered a reliable source, but they still call Central Missouri "Central Missouri State", which hasn't been its name since 2006. For as long as I can remember, the MIAA and athletic depts. of the MIAA have always referred to Truman State University athletics as just 'Truman' or 'Truman Bulldogs' or even when referring to the school in general. I know Truman State University even states that "the only acceptable shortened name is Truman". (Of course that is just what the school wants when their name is publicized, but still...) UAB Blazers colors

On March 15th you changed the colors for the UAB Blazers athletics teams. The changes are erroneous and will be corrected. The colors you wrongly assumed were correct are indeed the official colors of the University itself, but not the colors used by the Department of Athletics at UAB, as evidenced on page 6 of the official media guide for the 2014-15 men's basketball team at this link ...http://issuu.com/uabsports/docs/guide2014-15

The official colors of the athletic teams are Forest Green and Old Gold. Yes there is a reason for the differing colors which involved former athletic director Gene Bartow and his desire for more consistency of the gold color in discussions with the uniform manufacturer at the time, Russell Athletics. He was told that the shade of bright yellow gold the Blazers wore at the time was not a standard color and would vary from run to run. At that time (1991) the school and athletic department decided to drop the gold from the official colors (which were the same for both at that time) to forest green and white. Subsequently Russell Athletic came back to the school with a solution to the "gold" problem...if UAB would choose a commonly used golden shade (they chose the old gold worn by Georgia Tech), it could be consistently guaranteed. At that point Coach Bartow restored the shade of old gold to the athletic departments official colors as it remains today. The school itself did not re-institute gold and have since tweeked the green to a shade closer to evergreen. A change that was not matched by the athletics department. The previously listed colors were the correct colors and have been/will be restored.

Please do not attempt to change things you have an incomplete knowledge off and have not thoroughly researched. I have opened a discussion of this issue on the main UAB wiki page.

FYI: The official UAB athletic hex colors from the UAB athletics website are listed below:

Green - #006645 Gold - #D2C476 White - #ffffff

Blazerjay, First off, You have no clue whatsoever whether or not I researched or what I did before I changed those colors. Before I go changing the schools colors, I search and search to make sure I have the right colors. I realize the athletics colors are Forest Green and Old Gold; I saw that, I'm not sure why I changed it (so thanks for catching that much). As for the hex codes being on the athletics website, where are they located? I'm not sure where you get the Green and gold at, but I when I do it, I get different codes than you. And since how you are telling me the colors are wrong, by you saying Green and gold is wrong; they are Forrest green and Old gold. This is what makes me believe that they are the same for as the university. If you cannot provide a link to the athletics hex codes you've listed above, then I will go off of what is on the logo. You would need to provide a reliable source for the above information about the color change; Otherwise I think you've just made it up. As for the navbox box colors at the bottom of the university article, that is the university colors, so don't change that.
After looking at your contributions, I find it funny and odd that you seem to edit the article after almost seven years of not editing. Then all of a sudden someone has edited this article and you seem to resurrect. Seems odd to me. As for your username, are you a fan of UAB or do you work there? KCNC-TV Logo Cropped At Its Full Size

I've uploaded a full-sized cropped version of the Logo for KCNC-TV, just so it reaches your attention. If you still feel that the logo needs to be "Reduced" (even though it's apparently not a Non-Free image), then I guess you may revert it back to the prior version you had just uploaded earlier today…Because the image doesn't seem to qualify for copyright/Non-Free status, I'm uncertain and unsure about why it would still need to be reduced, as I'm sort of new here at Wikipedia (although, I do know that I upload complicated-looking logo images as Non-Free Images)… DizzyMosquitoRadio99 (talk) 14:30, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

College Basketball on NBC

Hi Corky, I can tell you that both Steve Grote and Dan Spika were part of NBC's college basketball coverage. Grote was a member of Michigan's 1976 national runner up basketball team. In 1981 Grote replaced Fred Taylor on NBC's Big Ten telecast with Bob Costas his broadcast partner. After that season, Grote joined CBS's college basketball broadcasts, with Taylor rejoining NBC and being paired with Costas. Dan Spika was a former player and coach at North Texas, and replaced Rudy Davalos as Frank Fallon's broadcast partner on Southwest Conference games on NBC in 1982. Celticsfellow, because Wikipedia has guidelines that you must follow and according to WP:BLPNOTE, people need to be notable. If they are not notable, why should we care who they are? I like it, Dirtlawyer1; you've done a great job on it! I like how the personal information is now towards the bottom, just like the politicians are. I'd rather see their career info at the top (like you've done) and personal stuff towards the bottom. As for my concerns, there isn't much but the colors. I do like the secondary colors, but I wonder about the schools that have an odd color combination. For example, the ones that come to mind are those with a dark blue (or black) and dark gold/yellow... or the ones that have to have white as a third color in the module. Other than that, great work! I've dealt with the user before, but they don't respond. I don't what will happen, but the thing is there is a lot of university/college articles with seals and there are a lot of editors who have added them over the years. I'm not sure if questions should be asked at WP:WikiProject Universities or what. My opinion, if a university doesn't want their seal to be used, then they shouldn't have it where people can access it. Thanks for the heads up, though, as I didn't see that one. I just asked Dirtlawyer his opinion because as we know he is a resident expert on userboxes. His opinion is that said user may be right with the university seal. I really didn't have an opinion as far as WTAMU goes. My opinion is if a university doesn't want it there it is well within their right to ask for its removal. I was wondering if somehow the plethora of such seals, including our respective institutions were inappropriately added into the infoboxes, and a mass purge would soon need to be in order. I think we should also look into athletic logos, too, as some of them are like the seals and say that permission is required in order to use them. Some, if not most, universities allow their logos to be downloaded, and if thats the case, then they are basically giving permission to use them. I don't know. I am not a fair use expert. I know some fair use rationale is necessary on uploaded images, but I don't know if we should be proactive either. However, I don't think your statement about universities allowing logos to be downloaded therefore it is allowed to be used necessarily follows. But I know that some items such as the KU Jayhawks are more restricted compared to the OU logo, or KU lettermark. So I don't know how far fair use goes. If you are asking if we should ask, absolutely but I don't know whom to ask. If you are asking if we should be proactive and replacing these, absolutely not, they were here for a reason, and it should be discussed before we remove them. But I imagine a limited level of free use is allowed just a quick browse of logos of corporations at tv stations and the logos are used. As far as athletic logos are concerned I (uninformed opinion) think that these are similar, but university seals I am not sure if they do infact have a logo for the university. Now that I think about it I think a question to WP:Univiersities wouldn't be the worst idea. Yes, I concur. And I've alerted User:Materialscientist about this and possible Sock violations. COI is something I take very seriously. Although I have UCO and you have ESU close to our hearts, and we will always take great care of these articles. We also look after other areas especially other MIAA schools. No person can be completely unbiased and we each have our favorites, but blatant promotion is something we do not stand for, and something we cannot allow. If these sources can be properly cited I am all for elaboration on a topic. It is my goal to eventually get UCO, UCO Bronchos, UCO football, UCO lists, Wantland Stadium, HFH, and even UCentral etc. upgraded talk page classes and even up to Featured status if at all possible. Corky, I've reverted this change: [7]. Four or five years ago, when we were implementing the then-new uniform football navboxes, several editors wanted to use a completely uniform color scheme for the football navboxes, inside and out. I argued against this, using the Gators as an example that for some color schemes it simply looked better when the box interiors reversed the colors. People missed and moaned, but everyone was afraid that if every box weren't 100% the same, that it would somehow lead to constant tampering, etc. Anyhow, the long and the short of it was that the University of Florida and the Florida Gators sports programs had a well-developed family of boxes that already used the reverse color scheme for the box interiors. We went along with the "all blue with orange highlights" scheme for the football box for the sake of keeping peace in the family; all the rest of the UF boxes retained their original blue outside, orange inside scheme, as they always had. Gibbsyspin, I agree with you about the png as a better option. I was not sure what was wrong at the time, all I know is that it there was nothing there when you replaced the .jpg version. Most, if not all, of these color choices are based on the universities or athletic departments' selection of hex and/or Pantone colors. Corky, I see you changed the colors for Template:USC Trojans football navbox from a two-color scheme to a three-color scheme with white font. I'm not sure; I was basically going off of the CFP infoboxes. The white contrast of white looks better for the USC colors. I can stop if you think thats what needs to happen. I was confused at first an reverted one, and then came here to see what's up. I think in general, the red/yellow works better for USC. I think it should be that way unless there's a good argument for using red/white... White is a secondary USC color, but red/yellow is widely used by USC all the time. Thoughts? FYI, guys, white text on the USC "cardinal" red background provides a clearly better contrast: Module:College color/data. In about 80-90% of all cases, white text reversed out of the darker team color provides a better contrast for text. Frietjes created the table with text-background contrast calculations between (a) team colors as background and text, (b) darker team color background and white text, and (c) lighter team color background and black text. As I said, white text on darker team color yielded better contrast about 80-90% of the time, with the two team colors being a push in a minority of cases, and black text on lighter team being the best contrast option in a small minority of cases. A medium orange background presented the biggest challenges; black text on orange was great for Princeton (team colors), but looked hideous for Tennessee, so we accepted a small group of cases where black text yielded marginally better contrast than white (or lighter team color) text, but we used white text anyway. I just don't think that it's really that huge of a difference in this case. The yellow on red background is still pretty clear, and is a distinctly USC color scheme. While white is a secondary USC color (as it is for most schools), you just don't see USC use that combination very often. Especially not white text on a red background. Actually, the USC golden yellow text on a USC cardinal red background yields a color contrast ratio of 5.9; the white text on the USC cardinal red yields a color contrast ratio of 8.92. That over 50% better. Please note that we are prominently preserving the distinctive team colors by using the USC golden yellow as a graphic highlight for all USC navboxes. My alma maters (Florida and Virginia) both have blue and orange as their team colors; in both cases, they are using white text reversed out of a blue background because it provides a superior contrast.

Sorry for being a little unclear. I don't mind the changes to the nav box. It's the info boxes, such as the on here [USC_Trojans_baseball|USC Baseball]]. There's no yellow at all in these outside of the team logo. And I don't think people would be "confused" over what they're looking at, and think it's Stanford. I just mean that USC (and other schools) have a consistent identity that they push, and the removal of yellow from the infobox, in this case, strongly diminishes that. @Embowaf: There's a behind-the-scenes effort under way to create a common infobox for all NCAA sports teams, with appropriate variations an options for each sport. When we're done, it will include the college stripe graphics, as shown above, as section headers, and it will share common colors, graphics, and layout and design for all college sports teams. So, when we're done, the infoboxes for USC basketball, USC football, USC baseball, USC swimming, etc., will all look very similar. Bear with us; these things take time. With a little luck the new NCAA sports team infoboxes will be ready for all sports by the end of the summer. Curious who "they" are as to why I can't place the primary CU logo on the Colorado Buffaloes page? I have authority to grant permission to use that logo. It was on Wikimedia Commons, and the website says "Who Needs A License? Anyone wishing to use the marks, logos and symbols of the University of Colorado must obtain a license." If you do have permission to use it, you'd have to prove that you have permission. It isn't coming to me right now how you do that so you might want to ask an administrator. Newsnight editors

Hello, You have deleted the names of editors of the British news programme Newsnight, so there are now gaps. The last gap - from 1997-2001 is the period when the only female editor, Sian Kevill, was editor. Since this is a significant programme, which still airs, it would be useful to have a complete list of its editors, and not delete them because one or two do not have their own page. Would you agree? @SeminoleNation: I would love too, but according to this, the official logo (File:FSU Seminoles logo.png) cannot be added because it violates WP:NFCC#8, WP:NFC#UUI §14 and WP:NFC#UUI §17. They state the following:
  • NFCC#8 – Contextual significance. Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding.
  • NFC#UUI §14 – A logo of a perennial event (or of its sponsoring company), used to illustrate an article about a specific instance of that event. If each instance has its own logo, such specific logos remain acceptable.
  • NFC#UUI §17 – The logo of a entity used for identification of one of its child entities, when the child entity lacks their own branding. Specific child entity logos remain acceptable.
I'd suggest talking with TLSuda or Stefan2. Right now, I think that the alternate logos would be the best logo to use for the other team articles. Corkythehornetfan 16:43, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Hey, SeminoleNation. I'm one of Corky's talk page stalkers. The Seminole head logo, like the Gator head logo, is a trademarked and copyrighted image owned by the university, and as such is subject to Wikipedia's non-free image policy per WP:NFCC. There was a Big Stink several years ago over the use of the Gator head logo, which at the time was being used on the Florida Gators athletic program article, all 16 of the primary articles for the Gators sports teams, all rivalry articles, all season articles, all bowl game articles, etc. All told, it was literally being used on close to 100 articles. The NFCC copyvio people were going nuts because use of non-free images is supposed to be extremely limited, justified in each use as irreplaceable, and documented in each case with a "fair use rationale" (FUR). I fought it tooth and nail, so that the logo could at least be used on the sports program and each of the 16 primary team articles. Ultimately, after a lot of back and forth, etc., the compromise was struck that we would purge the Gator head logo from all of the season, rivalry, and bowl game articles, and they would shut up and leave the primary team articles alone. As far as I know the Gator head logo is used more than any other NCAA non-free team logo, but its paperwork is in order, and each of the current 17 uses has a properly written FUR on the File:Florida Gators logo.svg. Suffice it to say, we've done our part to maintain the compromise; we strip the Gator head logo from any rivalry, bowl game or season article when some newbie adds it, and we use the free-image script Gators logo on everything but the primary team articles. Did you take them? If you took them, you can upload them to Commons as your own work. If you didn't take them, you'll have to provide proof to the Commons:OTRS team that you have permission and upload it with the correct license. Some pictures have certain tags like all US Gov't pictures have their own tag, or those before 1923. I don't usually upload pictures like the championship banner, but I mainly work on logos. (tps) Please forgive the intrusion C. The relevant policy is WP:OVERLINK. Specifically bullet point two "the names of major geographic features and locations". The policy came about somewhere between 06 to 08. I didn't agree with it at the time but I came to accept it. Prisencolinensinainciusol I would just say be careful about linking items that might fall under the "overlink" policy. IMO it isn't worth getting in trouble over. Carol Martin on Weekend Today

Hi, I see that you removed Carol Martin from the list of former Weekend Today personnel. Are you saying that she wasn't there, or that she's not notable? If she was there but not deemed notable (and I'm not sure I agree with that), then the list is incomplete and should be retitled "Notable" former personnel. I get the idea of WP:LISTPEOPLE, but given that there haven't been all that many anchors in the weekend show's history, I'm not sure there's any reason to have anything other than a complete list without judgment as to their notability. It looks fine. When I refer to a wp:contrast issue, it usually means it is hard to read. Gold font on a dark colored background, or any color for that matter, doesn't really read well. That is why I've been adding white font instead of the other colors. Corkythehornetfan 00:00, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for adjusting the team colors at {{Cleveland Cavaliers}} to allow for greater contrast & accessibility. I did notice, however, that you are at least occasionally using 3-character web color codes rather than the full 6-character hex color codes (e.g., #FFF instead of #FFFFFF for white). NFL Primary Style Module

SIUE red

I changed the color change you made to CC0000 back to what I had just changed it to the other day. SIUE's Wordmark and Logo Policy lists the color as Pantone (PMS)485, which converts to hex da291c which is just a bit darker than the red (FF0000) that was previously used or the university red (CC0000) that you used. It is not nearly as dark as the crimson-red SIUE used some years ago, but someone at some point decided to go a bit lighter. GWFrog (talk) 01:27, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

SIUE's Wordmark and Logo Policy is on www.siue.edu and does not give a hex equivalent... I see now where your ref (which I was looking for & not finding) says that "The HEX equivalent for PMS 485 is: #cc0000." Lacking that statement, I referenced http://rgb.to/pantone/485-c which shows it as da291c among the 8 different color code equivalents listed... Going beyond that since earlier, http://encycolorpedia.com/ has it as cc0c00, which is close to cc0000 but not quite the same... If the schools lists a hex code, then the one they list should be the one used, not ones we find other places. (I would only go to the rg.to website if they do not have a hex code listed on their website.) They wouldn't have listed a hex code if they didn't want a specific one used. Speaking of "their sports teams are pretty darn good"...California (Penna.) beat my Bloomsburg Huskies (first two years before I went to JMU) in the regional finals for women's basketball then they took out your ESU Hornets in the national semifinals before taking the whole thing. The Cal Vulcans also did heavy damage in softball, must be getting some of the better athletes out of the Pittsburgh suburbs. I see, for me I can't watch it without my head exploding. It was in a public place and I couldn't change the channel. Earlier that day my dad was watching other news sources and they were reporting on the outcome of a courtcase regarding photo ID for voting in Penna., I did not watch the news that morning. My dad had told me that they had reported a certain decision that morning, well what Fox News reported totally contradicted what my father told me. I told my dad that he must have been mistaken, and so I was upset having believed the Fox report. Well after checking several other sources later, I saw how Fox had twisted the story to favor their line of BS. Anyhow since I pay the whole cable bill I pretty much have Fox News blocked on all the TVs in the house. BTW, thanks for the heads up on the page moves to NCAA Division I, II, III. It's a good move. Recent edits

I meant to put back the US in front of the dollar sign in the UF article haha completely forgot. Anyways, I looked up the official signature on the Florida State University brand website and they have the real official signature NOT the seal that you might think I uploaded. There are variations of it though which one do you think I should put up. The current one is over 15 years old and completely outdated. I work hard to keep this page looking nice and updated. University of West Georgia

Thank you for doing some up-keep on the article! One caveat, why did you remove the title of "Dr." from Kyle Marrero on the infobox (under President)? He has a doctorate, and is commonly referred to by that title. Previous presidents have been similarly referred to as "Dr. Firstname Lastname" on this page.

I'm mostly sure the typical format is "name only". It's hard enough to keep names up to date and validated in articles, but titles and other degrees would be even harder. "Dr" is only an educational title, so it's really not their name. I've seen other people remove the "Dr" title in the past (and maybe quote a policy), but I don't have a link to the policy. WP:HONORIFIC. In general, items such as "Mr" and "Dr" shouldn't be included in references to people, except along the first mention of their names in biographies about them. They can be used in situations where it would be confusing not to include them (for example, if you were discussing two John Smiths, one with a doctorate and one without, "Dr. Smith" would be appropriate), but in something like this, the honorific shouldn't be included. Miami Marlins colors

I was wondering if you knew where to find official (MLB.com) HEX/HTML/Pantone color information for the Miami Marlins? I keep trying to edit the Marlins' article to show   FF6600    (which is Pantone 1585 C and actually reflects the Marlins' orange color) for Orange, but User:Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk • contributions) keeps undoing my edits. He claims the HEX/HTML/Pantone color for Orange is   F9423A    (which is Pantone Warm Red C and looks nothing like orange). The sources I've used come from MLB.com, and can be found here, here, and here. Y2kcrazyjoker4's only source is Colorwerx.net, which I believe is inaccurate. He won't leave it alone unless I can provide a style/logo/branding sheet, which is only found at MLBStyleGuide.com (and a website for which I don't have credentials, because it's apparently for business partners of MLB only). Yes, I did. I'm aware of the need for colors on Wikipedia to be visually readable/accessible, especially for people who are colorblind or who are susceptible to seizures brought on by bright colors. I'm also apparently aware of the need to fill in the edit summary every time I make an edit to an article. So, I changed the font colors for Seattle Seahawks so the text color is   FFFFFF   . I hope you could possibly edit the Miami Marlins article with accurate HEX/HTML colors? Every time I edit it, User:Y2kcrazyjoker4 always reverts my edits. I have found a few sources (source 1, source 2, source 3, source 4) that have different codes than you, the other user, or I have. If I use this website to convert the RGB codes listed on this website, the orange shows in favor of  #F9423A . (Please note that the color converter at yellowpipe.com is pretty acurate. I've tested it on several university colors that list both a RGB code and hex code.) If anything, try contacting the team and see if they respond... I haven't found anything at MLB.com yet. I'll keep looking though.
Try talking to the user on the talk page and see if you can work things out. Getting in edit wars will get the both of you in trouble. They do have a history for being block due to edit-warring, but that was in 2006 and 2008.

NBA team templates

I was wondering why you reverted my edits for about 5 different National Basketball Association (NBA) team templates? Is yellow/gold a hard color? I only made those edits to break up the monochrome look/add contrast. I don't think having a yellow/gold basestyle is visually difficult, especially when the font color for each template was specifically colored so there would be contrast. I've checked out that website. I'm just curious what threshold certain colors like yellow and lime green have to meet in order to have enough WP:CONTRAST. University of Arkansas at Fayetteville

This is just matter of disambiguation. The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and their mascot, the Razorbacks only represent the school in Fayetteville, though their marketing program would seek to convince that they represent the entire State of Arkansas. This is not technically true. I don't believe that the marketing program thinks they represent the entire state of Arkansas. University of Arkansas is the WP:COMMONNAME, as the media and fans do not add "at Fayetteville" to the name. Just like the University of Texas at Austin, which has its own system and each school has its own mascot, the media and others often refer to it as the "University of Texas" instead of adding "at Austin" at the end. I see no need in adding at Fayetteville in the wikilink. The System has its own Wikiarticle, and so does each school. There was no consensus, but I changed the tables because the automatic table looks much cleaner. By saying it looks cleaner, I mean (a) it is more compact and legible {all wording is on one line instead of two}, and (b) we don't have to deal with adding color every single time we make an edit. Please note that another editor may come along and remove them if they don't have an article. I've seen it happen a lot. Also, there is no need for "Dr" to be included in the Wikilink. Infobox NFL player color question

Hey, I was wondering if you could add the bordered NFL team colors to the template? For example, Robert Griffin III's (and all other Redskin players, etc) would have the gold border in the infobox, like it shows on the roster navbox. Dallas Cowboys Roster Template Contrast

I noticed you changed the contrast on the navbox as well, but made the primary color silver. Is there a chance you could do the same color scheme as the navbox for the main roster template? Uploading Images to Wiki

You shouldn't have create a new page for the Santa Clara logo. If you go to the current logo page on Santa Clara Broncos athletics logo.gif, you would see at the bottom of the page it states "Upload a new version of this file." That is what should be used unless it is a brand new logo. In this case you should have used that instead of uploading the file SC Broncos logo.png.Bigddan11 (talk) 03:27, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

I'm aware of that link at the bottom of the page, but I uploaded a transparent version of the logo, which was png format and the only reason it was a separate version. I have no way of converting the logo to a gif image, nor do I really care to have or find a program that does convert images. PNG images usually have better quality than GIF images. Georgia Southwestern State University

Regarding your recent changes to Georgia Southwestern State University, I have a few questions/comments. 1. Why are college and university seals showing up on their respective pages? Most, if not all, schools do NOT use their seal to promote their university. In Georgia Southwestern's case, it makes more sense to use it's primary logo to properly foster its brand. 2. Georgia Southwestern's colors are not simply "Navy" and "Gold." The proper Hex color values are listed after the colors, but nowhere in the school's cited brand guidelines are those generic color names given. It makes more since to give a specific color value. 3. Why did you remove the reference to the Rosalynn Carter Institute's Operation Family Caregiver with web citations? 4. @SowegaAM06: Thanks for asking. Below are my answers:
  1. Since 2012 (when I became a member of Wikipedia), we've used both the seal and the logo. Just because a school doesn't use their seal to promote the university, doesn't mean we can't display it. The logo that the school brands with is at the bottom of the Infobox, so people can still recognize the school by the logo.
  2. As for the colors, we do not use the PMS code as the actual name because the general public doesn't care about the PMS name. When the colors are listed on the website, they don't say "PMS 281" and "PMS 1245", but instead say "Navy and Old gold." The hex code/PMS code is for tech geeks who need the color codes. Also, the alumni from the school do not say their school colors are "PMS 281" and "PMS 1245", but again say "Navy and Old gold." This is common sense.
  3. I removed the reference for the Carter Institute per WP:EL -- no external links in the body paragraphs. You can use those external links as references at the end of the sentences by placing <ref>...</ref> tags around the html, but they cannot be in the body as an external link.
  4. The links in the copy and paste templates show others where it was copied from. A majority of the text in those two sections were copied from the website, which causes a copyright problem.

The Valparaiso logo File:VALPO logo.png that you updated recently and added to all their current pages is not a current logo. They stopped using that logo in 2013. The current logo which I uploaded, and since has been deleted because it was not on any current pages, I cannot find anymore. I usually use my DigitalColor Meter on my computer. My other option would be to check the Silver or Grey Wikipedia pages that is close to the picture. The Graphics Standards says "As silver can be difficult to produce, most shades of grey are acceptable," so a darker shade of silver is good. If the school were to have a PMS, RGB, or CMYK code, there are always websites you can search for on Google. I use rgb.to for PMS/RGB and easycalculation.com/colorconverter/rgb-color-converter.php for the CMYK. You might give the Moorhead State code a try. Corkythehornetfan 02:53, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

I say go for it... it's the common thing to do on here! I see no good reason for the two to be separate articles, they both only have one source, and could use a good clean up. I don't think others would have a problem with it.
Here is a couple of things I'd do:
  1. Remove the season-by-season tables and leave the text, unless there is a separate articles for those teams (which I don't think there are). Finding sources for the text shouldn't be a problem.
  2. Infobox name: you can choose how to display the name as what you think looks best, but at the right is what I would do.
Other than that, merge it as is and do whatever else you want to improve the article. Let me know if you want me to help. Corkythehornetfan 00:53, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, Corky, I'm not quite understanding where to type and unfortunately don't have the time to sort through everything. I have contributed to wikipedia over a long period of time but very sporadically so I'm definitely not up on things. I would like to keep the external link to the website as per what I'm reading on the wikipedia link info WP:ELYES #3. The link takes to the official site and while we could create a separate article I think this is the best solution for now. I hope you will reconsider and please let me keep this external link. Sorry, Corky, but I'm not reading the Wikipedia external/internal links guidelines to be as emphatic as you are making it. And even you use the word "generally". I feel that since it is part of VA Tech, it is better to include this information on the Virginia Tech article page rather than creating a new article for Wikipedia. Again citing WP:ELYES, #3 and seeing the word "general" or "generally" used when talking about larger subject article pages, I believe the external link is warranted. I'll add it to external links, but I feel isn't ideal given that I want to keep it "in" VA Tech without creating a separate article. But you obviously see it as more clear cut and evidently do this all the time, so I guess I'll have to find the time at some point to create an article page. Thanks for your patience with me! Sure I was slowly striking away at UCO's. Usually I like to make the articles upper stub/start class or higher before I take it out of my sandboxes. Be patient with me because my schedule is getting tighter. Nobody told me that you get much less time after you graduate. I have also created a to do list here [24], if you decide to create some of these articles for football, I will add the basketball teams to keep track of it as well.
  • Here is where we stand thus far:
  • ESU and NW have been created
  • Hays, NSU, and UCM have won D-II championships and would IMO take top priority.
  • Hays, UCM, and Washburn have won NAIA championships.
  • I'll start by taking UCO, NSU, Lindenwood, and UNK.

I looked at it again just now and decided that the user was not being disruptive, he was merely mistaken. In fact, I did not leave any warning messages aside from a special note because I thought he was probably in good faith at the outset. I also left a modified welcome message with links. I thought you might be interested in my message to the user.

I slapped a PROD template on it. The creator will remove it, I'll do the WP:BEFORE due diligence, and it will be nominated for AfD sometime tomorrow. It's a tiresome exercise, but as long as people insist on creating articles for non-notable "rivalries," I'm afraid this will continue. There's probably another 30 or 40 existing "rivalry" articles that probably should be deleted too. Some folks just don't get the concept of notability (and the fact that Wikipedia is not a fan blog). KOMO-TV link

Is it really necessary to link the official website to the specific section about KOMO-TV? As KOMO operates a news department, they have to display the news as the main part of the website. I don't think there's a requirement on Wikipedia to link TV stations' websites to the specific link about them, and many other stations' articles have websites where the news is displayed when on the basic URL.

@Contributor321: I intentionally removed them because it too much of a clutter in the infobox. (I would really just like to get rid of the "Former names" section of the inbox altogether, but know that will never happen.) I couldn't figure a way to include it in the infobox without it going to a new line. If you want them there, I'll be glad to add a box on the right side of the History section that includes them. I see your point about the infobox clutter and agree the former names should be removed IF the history section adequately covers them (e.g. look at University of Arizona vs. Arizona State University, both founded in 1885: one has all the former names listed, the other doesn't). I'm going to update UCSB's history section so that the relevant dates are there, and would not be opposed to deleting the former names from the infobox. The ASU infobox is a mess, and the names are bolded for the school in the history section. As for the discussions, I tend to go towards the BRD. Not a problem, I knew you weren't being tendentious. My understanding - and it is a vague and interpretive one - is that when defining location (as we do in infoboxes) then it is valid. Similarly, it is valid when describing interaction between nations. I am not wed to that definition, just trying to maintain consistency. In this particular case, I was reverting what appeared to me to be some serial vandalism by the IP, who was adding it in some articles, removing it from others, and generally adding unsourced content. Hey, I was wondering why you are trying to delete the seals I put up on the schools within Buffalo again. I'm just doing this based on other schools I've seen. For example https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornell_University .Just so I can keep this short, the pages at Cornell University's departments have a seal the same way I used. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornell_University_College_of_Human_Ecology , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornell_University_College_of_Veterinary_Medicine . Its on top of the articles page and an University seal which make it fair use and I see nothing wrong with it. Many other University's do the same exact thing. Hey Corkythehornetfan, since the Upload Log is constantly growing, there really is not much time for patrollers to give in regards to seeing if a speedy tag needs to be placed on a file or not, especially since these notifications (like the one here) act as sort of a "nudge" to those who may upload the image, have every intent to add the image to the article, then forget, possible due to either real-life interruptions or commitments. Sacramento State edits.

Thanks for the info. Maybe someone from the Government Department will add the information for the Sacramento Semester program. I was lucky enough to be an intern in 1986 and they still have anniversary events. It's a great program and a shame it has never been added to this page as a University asset.

As to the name change...all the alumni literature, marketing and logos have referred to the school as Sacramento State University since 2004 and you would be hard pressed to find any California State University, Sacramento references in the bookstore or apparel. As noticed at football games we have no consistency in name, shade of green, hornet logo or mascot so maybe the confusion on names on this page is something they don't have a problem with.

Thought I could help steer this page into the latest name but actually this had taken up more time that I care to spend on it.

As for the name, the 2015 CSUS Brand Book states that Sacramento State University is the standard name, but not the formal name. I started looking for the official Hex and/or Pantone colors for your Eastern Kentucky example, and I found this, [27], for starters. For the record, I note the Florida Gators hex colors listed are wrong, but perhaps it will be of some use to you, at least as a starting point. What I was really looking for was something like the University of Florida's official "Brand Center" identity page at [28], which includes both the official Hex and Pantone colors. University of Houston colors

I am quite aware that the athletic department uses a different red on its website; however, that is not the color being used in real life (even for athletic flags, logos, etc. –RJN (talk) 02:17, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

@RJN: They state that is the official color for athletics, and it should be the one used. They use the darker red of #7D2935, but the lighter red on this website is the official color. I think they make that pretty clear on their website. The University may use #CC0000 as the color, but Athletics uses their own. They are two different colors, and they both should be used. Bear in mind that WP:OTHERSTUFF will always exist, so it's generally not a compelling reason to keep or delete content. In this case, WP:NOTLYRICS is a Wikipedia policy: "... any quotation of them must be kept to a minimum, and used for the purpose of direct commentary or to illustrate some aspect of the style." I see the football Hornets finished second in the conference...

'Fan, I saw your notice that you will probably leave editing Wikipedia by the end of the year. I for one will miss you. Anyhow I wanted to contact you weeks ago, but the first time I checked the article on the Hornets football season wasn't until the morning of the game that the Hornets lost to Fort Hays State, before that they were undefeated. And I felt that I jinxed them considering that I waited all that time to check on the Hornets and then they lost that game. So, I waited until now to contact you, after the end of the season. With a second place finish in the conference we should be pretty confident they will make the playoffs. The selection show is tomorrow, it will air on ncaa.com at 5pm ET/ 4pm CT. My Bloomsburg Huskies lost a few weeks back to a team they have not lost to in a decade, it was a critical loss so they will not be making the playoffs. As for James Madison they were 7-0 until their star QB got injured in the eighth game, they lost that one and the next. They recovered today with a victory over Delaware, a big rival. JMU got the winning touchdown with 20 seconds left in the game. It was heart attack city. Anyhow, sorry for going so long. I wanted to let you know about a couple of things on the MIAA football season and the Emporia State fb season articles that you can easily fix with Twinkle. I'll let you know in the next post. Freddiem Oh, so YOU'RE the reason we lost!!! haha! We just played horrible that game and Ft. Hays always gives us a run for our money! Sorry to hear about your Huskies, maybe next year? At least your Dawgs recovered, though! Injuries suck (I know because ESU had injuries the past two seasons... both times out star QB). Luckily he didn't get injured during this year's regular season. I have Twinkle, but only use it when I see the endash in an article, so I'll be glad to learn what needs fixed.
As for the leaving, thanks! I've just been getting tired of dealing with a few editors and kind of getting bored with Wikipedia. But as I've said before, there are a few editors that I've enjoyed working with, yourself included. I've never had a problem with you and that makes the project more fun. Plus being in school you really have to concentrate on that, and it's understandable why you would want to leave Wikipedia. Did you see Fort Hays St. upset Central Mo. today? JMU's star QB was the leading passer in the nation and sixth in rushing in the nation including RBs. His probable pro career is possibly ruined. A 340 lbs. linemen stepped on his foot and basically crushed it, and he limped around for several downs before they finally took him out of the game. Regarding the dashes, with the endashes and the emdashes which one is the shorter and which is the longer? And also a couple of years back a lot of the article titles for colleges were changed to have these elongated dashes, what's up with that? I'll show you an example of a college where I think it clearly doesn't make sense. Regarding the fixes it's just little stuff...On the MIAA football season article in the schedule section you have daggers to denote what are clearly the homecoming games but you do not denote the fact that's what they are for. Regarding the Hornets football season article in the infoboxes in the game notes section the games in September and October are marked with "CST", should be Daylight Time. It was just those two small things I found. You are especially right about Pitt State, they used to be a national powerhouse in days past. FSU Colleges

This is an online encyclopedia and you are removing a bunch of FACTS. What is the purpose of this damn website if you can't put anything in the damn articles? You are making every article look terrible especially the college of business one. What is wrong with this website? It's an ENCYCLOPEDIA for christ's sake. You left a heading with "The college of business offers masters degrees". Are you kidding me right now? I clearly elaborated on the subject but according to you we can't elaborate now? You are deleting a bunch of rankings that clearly have references too? You are what's wrong with wikipedia. This website is going down the drain because of policies like this. Sorry you feel that way. A majority of the College of Business content was copied straight from the website. Do I need to point out them for you, or do you know which ones? I don't know who placed it there, nor do I really care, but they obviously don't belong here. You're more than welcome to re-add it, just as long as it isn't word-for-word from the website. We also don't list what majors are offered (e.g. B.S. in Business Admin.) per WP:UNIGUIDE. Are we just supposed to make up our own information? Most of these facts come straight from the University. I don't get how we're supposed to add content when we can't do anything. What's the point of putting in references if you could just say you got it straight from this website or that website or that book etc. I really don't understand Wikipedia. Are we not supposed to add content and facts? If I were to make up some info and put it in my own words then an editor will come and delete it because "there are no references". Using facts and statistics is absolutely permitted, but they should be supported by inline citations to the source material. What is not permitted is verbatim, i.e., word for word, copy-pasting of significant strings of text per WP:COPYVIO. We are supposed to paraphrase our sources, not plagiarize them and present them as if we wrote the text ourselves when we in fact copied it. Well a wikipedia beginners guide would have been helpful before I put in all this work in and wasted so much of my time. I made sure to cite every single sentence on every article I worked on but it's way too much work to expand these stubs on Wikipedia without copy and pasting some info straight from the source. I didn't know this website was meant to present articles as official academic research articles. I see no point in having this website when people could just go to university's webpage. You guys just gang up on inexperienced editors like me and pat each other on the back when one of you guys deletes something and then you leave. I would love to have some help on this since every editor I've ever interacted with on this website just seems to delete content and that's it. I'm the only one trying to expand these pages and it's really frustrating because nobody ever told me how I was really supposed to work on Wikipedia when I made my account. You guys seem like pretty experienced Wikipedia editors and have done nothing to help me out with the issue. I wouldn't call myself an "experienced" editor. I'm still learning something new about the Wikipedia guidelines each and every day, and I've been editing consistently for about two years. I learn by my mistakes and/or by what the more experienced users post. If I see something that is not right and have no idea what the guideline is for that, I ask. There is no "trying to gang up on you", but there is experienced editors – like Dirtlawyer1 and ElKevbo – trying to help you out. I don't expand articles unless it is one I care about, and that is mostly in the Midwest region. I do remove content that doesn't belong and I update the infoboxes. That's pretty much it. If you want something to read and help you understand the guidelines better, I would suggest reading Wikipedia:Simplified ruleset and go from there. If you have a question, ask an experienced user or go to the Teahouse, and someone will be able to help you. Yeah I said that because I'm calling it how I see it. I don't sugarcoat anything. All I see is editors removing content and deleting images. I have yet to see an editor try to expand anything on any article. Please don't try to give me any life lessons on success in the real world. I can guarantee you that I definitely don't need it. The only reason I made an account is because the Florida State University articles were completely abandoned. Most of these articles have been reduced to stubs and have stayed that way for over 5 years. Somebody has to speak up about this and if I have to be "that guy" on Wikipedia than so be it. Agreed 13,500 articles on your watch list is way too much :-), and I'm just about to hit that number as my edit number, took only nine and a half years to do it... :-). Anyhow I made the edits on the PSAC articles, I saw your tweak to my edit at Mansfield Univ., I used that and applied it to the rest of the PSAC East schools. Good collaborative effort. But check out the article title on West Chester Univ. Also I wanted to discuss the editing of a certain editor, and how I might handle it, I won't use names if you prefer. It basically comes down to what I saw at the top of the MOS "use common sense." I've let the issue ride for well over a year, at the time of the issue an editor you know also wrote on his talk page addressing pretty much the same issue, both of us received no response whatsoever. I checked the article in question a few months back and the edit history of the article shows basically him just reverting anyone else's edits. The issue is really a small one and the only reason I'm reminded of it is that this pain editor was right below me on the edit count the other day, and on that same day, the other editor who also had a beef with him was conversing here on your talk page in your defense on the FSU issue. HA! I'd like to know what some of the users who have been here for 5+ years have or those who have been here since the beginning... or even admins! What's wrong with the name? "of Pennsylvania" I think is fine in the lead sentence, but per WP:COMMONNAME, it should be left out of the article title. (Google shows 50.5 million for w/out of PA, and 14.4 million w/PA). It's kind of like University at Buffalo, which it's full name is State University of New York at Buffalo. If that isn't what you are talking about, please elaborate more.
As far as the issue with another editor goes, if the problem continues and they don't want to respond to you or others, I'd usually go to an admin. Bagumba is your guy for sports related articles. If you want various admins to view the problem, you can take it to the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. I go an admin for the noticeboard... which I've never taken something there before. Would you be willing to give me the article so I can see more of the situation, just so I know what it is specifically you're talking about? If you don't want to share it here, you can email me (click the link), or if you don't want to share at all, that is fine too. I'm guessing it's an ownership/personal attack issues by the other party if they keep reverting everyone's edits so it's "their way"? Or is it something different? Sorry for the very delayed response; after my last post I turned on "Hardball" and got "tired", literally, of his nonsense...I fell asleep and woke up five hours later. With the West Chester Univ. article title, the one overriding thing is that each of the other, 13 of the 14 state-owned universities (Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) members) has "of Pennsylvania" in the article title. As for the article and issue with the pain editor, I'll get back to you tomorrow. I am going to finish my work on the PSAC West now. I just received an e-mail from the JMU alumni association notifying me that the tv broadcast for tomorrow's game has been cancelled. Comcast Sports Net Philadelphia was supposed to show the game since they were playing Villanova. But Comcast has decided to only produce the W&M vs. Richmond and only show that game. So I'll be forced to watch the JMU game on the internet and will then only be able to keep track of the Hornets game by the stats cast over the web. Was able to watch the first half of the Hornets game, being on YouTube the broadcast came in good. Speaking of uniforms I saw on the ESU athletics website a "blue" football uniform, what's up with that?? :-) With the seeding for JMU it's a national seed at #5; with ESU that #7 is a regional seed. But like I said, without our QB, the seed is completely bogus. The Dukes will play Colgate this weekend; good thing I put away my Colgate jacket for the winter, it's too cold for it now. :-) Btw, on the 2015 ESU football article, the last couple of weeks you have introduced postal abbreviations for the states in both the schedule and the game summaries. Before that you were using traditional abbreviations. The postal abbreviations look better and are the standard and what you used last year. Font tags in navboxes

Corkythehornetfan, I noticed you've made a number of edits to introduce font tags into the titles of navboxes, e.g. Template:Pittsburg State Gorillas football coach navbox. I was under the impression that these font tags were deprecated, and that the preferred way to format colors there was to use span tags or templates that employ spans tags, like Template:White. Jweiss11: I'm not sure about that, but I noticed that it used a white underline when you hover over the link, unlike {{color|white|example}}. Another user had done this with all NCAA Division II conference navboxes, which is when I noticed the white underline. If it is wrong, then I will revert my edits... I just thought having that underline in white is helpful (so you can tell it's a link), as well as saving time when typing. correct, <font>...</font> is deprecated and not supported in HTML5, but color of the underlining isn't modified by span tags. I can go into more details if you are interested, but basically, I believe you can't change the underline color in HTML5 without using a CSS class, or javascript, or something non-obvious. Totie, I don't remember exactly why but I'm guessing I was thinking the border between the gold and brown (on right side) needed cleaned up because it looks blurry. I've had a glance at the code, but it seems to look fine. I do see the fuzzy edges and lines as well and I presume that this is a problem with the engine. The image is fairly complex with lots of little parts, gradients and masks and I think that this just isn't rendered properly yet. It should be possible to recreate it in order to improve the quality, but it's quite a bit of work and given that the logo has been succeeded by a new version, I doubt that anyone will make the effort. Nevertheless, we can leave the template and just add a comment to it.–Totie (talk) 01:22, 26 November 2015 (UTC)

College sports navboxes

Corky, I see that you've TfD'd a number of underpopulated navbox templates like Template:Toledo Rockets baseball coach navbox of late. Rather than going this route, wouldn't it be a better use of everyone's time to just stub out a few of the red links there rather than deleting such navboxes, which are are members of an established and justified class, and then having to recreate them down the road? @Jweiss11: We should not be putting Corky on the spot for nominating navboxes that clearly fail the NAVBOX guidelines, JW. Perhaps we should be doing an inventory of these very marginal navboxes (one link, really?), reminding the template creators of the applicable criteria and that the templates are subject to deletion in their present state, and proactively stubbing them out. I have helped stub-out several articles recently in order to save coach navboxes that would have otherwise been deleted, but no one should feel obligated to participate in all-hands-on-deck efforts to save them when creators have ignored the criteria in creating them. Recent TfDs have taken 3 to 4 weeks before close, which is plenty of time for the creator to stub-out 3 or 4 articles. It is not fair to put that burden on other editors when the creator is unwilling. That said, it is not entirely clear that a substantial number of Toledo baseball coaches would survive a GNG critical analysis. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 01:36, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
DL, I wasn't aiming to put Corky on the spot for any one template nomination. Rather, I was aiming to suggest a better process going forward.
