Displaying one page within another = Transclusion

Including the contents of a template page on a different page (by surrounding the page name with double braces, i.e. "{{}}" and leaving out the "Template:" prefix) is called transclusion.

This allows the other page to be automatically updated whenever the template page is updated.

Besides templates, pages in the following namespaces can be transcluded:

  • Category:
  • Help:
  • Portal:
  • User:
  • Wikipedia:

The only difference between transcluding these and templates is that you must include the prefix (followed by a colon) with the page's name inside the double braces.

Images also can be transcluded, but this is done using double square brackets instead of braces.

Here are some examples of transclusion:

{{Pic of the day}} · {{Help:Contents}} · [[Image:Wikipedia-logo.png]]

Question from MDMurdoch33 (15:07, 3 May 2024)[edit]

Hello, what are the best resources to cite when making edits? --MDMurdoch33 (talk) 15:07, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

MDMurdoch3 Good day. Any sources that is independent, reliable source such as from the major newspapers, books and etc. Sources from social media, subject web site, or sources that are related/affiliated/connected the subject are considered not independent. Govt sources is considered not reliable for no fact-checking is in place. Please read WP:IS, WP:RS and WP:V for further details. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 07:42, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Paulo Costa page change[edit]

Hello, my name is Mounir Darbaki and I'm an employee at the UFC. I'm simply correcting the info on various fighters pages based on my direct contact with the fighters, and these fighters also post this information on their own social media pages. Moonear7 (talk) 19:29, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Moonear7 Good day. May I know which edit(s) you referred to? - pls let me know the date, time and editor name (or Ip editor )- see HERE and pls come back to me. Cassiopeia talk 07:32, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It was the version that listed Edvaldo Gonzaga, Kelson Pinto, and Carlos Costa as his coaches. 68.108.118.96 (talk) 03:20, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Moonear7 Thank you for the info. First of all you have a conflict of interest (COI) since you work for UFC for any edits that the subjects are associated/affliated/connected with UFC which included all past and present UFC fighters, marketing agent, UFC fighters coaches, ESPN, and UFC staff. This means you are discorage strongly to edit those above pages. Pls declare on your talk page that your COI and see the instructions at WP:DISCLOSE. Cassiopeia talk 03:41, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I understand the COI, however, the information I'm providing is accurate. The aforementioned athletes/coaches are sharing this information publicly on their social media pages. Moonear7 (talk) 03:43, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Moonear7 If you have independent, reliable source such as from the newspapers, books or mma media sites, pls provide them on the article talk page or my talk page along with the info needed to be changed or added, and an interested editor will edit it for you. However, if you dont have the source from independent, reliable source that the info can NOT be added/changed since Wikipedia policy is verifiability from independent, reliable source for info added/changed. Since you are here, if you have taken any UFC fighters photos (you are the copyright holder = you took the photo) and would like to release the copyright of the image for anyone to use it, then pls upload them Here and I will crop them in right size to place in the subject pages since we have a hard time to find copyright free images of past and current fighters' images. On behalf of Wikipedia and all MMA editors here, we thank you in advance. I have place a COI message on your talk page since it has come to my attention of your COI with UFC. However, you can edit any pages in Wikipedia as long the subject (the article) has NOTHING to do/associated/affiliated/connected with UFC. Thank you and best.

Nursulton Ruziboev page[edit]

Hello, I thought we were supposed to use Sherdog as the source for MMA records, which his what I did. I believe you reverted it back to what Tapology said. Also, I do now realize I made some of the organization names too long, so I can fix that if you allow me to change it again. By the way, the "Stance" section with "Orthodox" only shows up when there is no source next to it. Creatorial (talk) 03:17, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Creatorial, Hi Good day. I have reverted my edits (not sure why I did that, may be wrong click which I didnt intended to for I just want to add "re-used" ref" - btw, thank you for informing me. Yes we use info from the Sherdog for the infobox section. However, if the info is not listed/available from Sherdog, then we see other source for the info along with its source. Sherdog does not provide "Stand" and "Reach" info so we can either get it from UFCstats or Tapology. When we do that and the source need to cite the source. For any info that use on different parts/places on an article - in this case the "Reach" and "Stand" we need to cite the source in one of the info and "re-used" the ref for the 2nd info - see HERE. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 03:28, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from CandyPTrudeau (19:52, 6 May 2024)[edit]

Hello. I need you to update my spouse's information. Prime Minister Justin Pierre Trudeau. You can get our documents (copies) of our 4 marriage contracts in the care of President Joe Biden and Mrs Jill Biden. Please update this RIGHT AWAY. Thank you. Sophie Gregoire is NOT his spouse, not even ex wife. They were never married. I legally adopted Xavier, Ella, and Hadrien. Justin legally adopted our son Leo. They are all PANGILINAN-TRUDEAU's. I expect this matter to be resolved in a timely manner. Merci beaucoup. --CandyPTrudeau (talk) 19:52, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @CandyPTrudeau:
You appear to have a conflict of interest. Please read our conflict of interest guideline and request an edit on the article's talk page using {{edit COI}}. Wikidata weekly summary #626[edit]

Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
This is the Wikidata summary of the week before 2024-05-06.
Translations are available.

Tool of the week

  • Wikidata periodic table - Tool by User:Ricordisamoa, to browse all chemical elements available on Wikidata, with atomic number, chemical symbol, and localized label. It also includes two charts of the nuclides, with links to every isotope in Wikidata, colored by half-life or decay mode.

Other Noteworthy Stuff

  • A new UI mode is available for the online validator for EntitySchemas. It represents validation reports as a table rather than a very long string, and replaces most links with hyperlinks with some of the text behind them; making them easier to read. Currently being tested at https://shex-validator.toolforge.org/packages/shex-webapp/doc/shex-simple-improved.html, we are looking for participants to evaluate this tool. Some experience with editing Wikidata is appreciated, but no experience working with Schemas is required. If you are interested, you can sign up here. We hope to begin interviews around May 13. ESPN[edit]

If you're making the argument that ESPN cant be used for UFC fighters, we're going to have a TON of references to remove. Theres five on that Paulo Costa article alone. And for that matter, UFC.com wouldnt be considered independent either. Nswix (talk) 02:35, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nswix UFC is not an independent nor reliable source. We use UFC only when there is no other source can be used for info such as back then reach and stand for the fighter (now we can obtain almost all current UFC fighters' stand and reach from Tapology). We use UFC ranking for fighter as source and extremely limited fighter (direct info) of fighter bjj belt or other things. If we can find other sources to sub UFC source, pls do and highly encourage. ESPN is in contract with UFC and heavyly connected to each other for such make ESPN not independent for UFC and UFC fighter related pages. We dont use ESPN as sources and if the info can be found in ESPN, it always can be found in other MMA sites. (Note: ESPN used to buy content from Sherdog as back then they dont have they own reporters for MMA content and use Sherdog database until not long ago.) We can use extremely sparingly primary source when it is directly of the subject such as fighter's personal info or UFC ranking from UFC site (note: the UFC ranking is not ranked by UFc but by 21 MMA media which UFC records the outcome each week on their site instead on the respective MMA media sites).
