Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Ashish 1816! Your additions to Virat Kohli have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 23:19, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I try to improve the article by rectifying grammatical mistakes , adding missing information . I have been following the Wikipedia guidelines in attempt to edit the article but for some reason whatever part of article I edit , it gets removed as whole from the the article only (specifically : Virat Kohli) even though I give a reference. could you please explain , who and why gets it removed? Blocked for sockpuppetry[edit]

Wikipedia's technical logs indicate that this user account has been or may be used abusively per the evidence presented at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Ashish 1816. It has been blocked from editing for a period of 1 week to prevent abuse.

Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.

Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.

Hi - look, there's no nice way to say this, but that was a really silly thing to do. The whole point of the Good Article review process is so that an uninvolved and experienced editor comes to look at the article, check that it complies with policy, suggest improvements, etc. You attempted to subvert that process by attempting to review your own work - I don't know why you did that, but it wasn't a good idea, either for the article, or for your reputation. I can understand wanting to get the article to GA status - I enjoy doing that myself, when I can find the time - but you need to do that in conjunction with an experienced editor who really knows what they're doing. This is just a temporary block; after the block expires, you are welcome to work on the article review if someone else volunteers to do the review for you. If you do something like this again however, the next one will probably be indefinite. Best Girth Summit (blether) 17:44, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2023 ICC World Test Championship[edit]

Please check the previous format of 2021 ICC World Test Championship final you can clearly see summary is written first then scorecard is written. You have mixed both. Either change it yourself or I will change because it takes time. MNWiki845 (talk) 16:22, 11 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I considered mixing things up a bit because it felt like it would go well with the flow of the team's innings. However, having the summary followed by the scorecard doesn't seem like a bad idea, so I'll stick with it. I think we can agree that it's a good way to present the information. ✨Ashish Legend✨ 05:08, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, seems premature to nominate the final article for a good article one day after the event finished. I doubt it's possible to make enough updates in that time to pass a GA review. Joseph2302 (talk) 07:44, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I totally understand and appreciate your concern. It's completely valid and makes perfect sense. I initially thought that it was good enough to be nominated, but now I realize that it might not meet the required standards. My bad for not realizing it earlier. So, I'll take back my nomination until I can make the necessary improvements to make it nomination-worthy. ✨Ashish Legend✨ 08:31, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On 13 June 2023, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article 2023 ICC World Test Championship Final, which you updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. Ktin (talk) 19:32, 13 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
