Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Anya Bay. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Halyna Hutchins, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. BlueNoise (talk) 01:02, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you didn't allow my changes, but I know for a fact that her birthday was April 9th, not April 10th. How can this change occur? Do you need a copy of her ID or? Halyna was a close friend of mine and I want the information here to be correct. Please, advise. Thank you Anya Bay (talk) 23:56, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Anya Bay! Wikipedia articles are supposed to be based on reliable sources, so if you find a source stating what her birthday was, you can cite the addition (see this page for an easy way to do that). You can use the {{request edit}} template on the article talk page and someone will add the information for you. Let me know here or on my talk page if you have any more questions! Best, Perfect4th (talk) 02:02, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, at the very least it says so on her Facebook page - April 9th. How can I submit that? What's the easiest way to do it? This is the link to her facebook and birthday:

Editors have to be careful about using social media (a self-published source) for information, but it would probably qualify here. I can't see the information, but that may be because I don't have a Facebook account; do you know if the page is private or public?
Once you have a source for the information, you can request on the talk page that the information be added by adding this to the bottom of the talk page:
{{request edit}}
  • Specific text to be added or removed: add text here (e.g. change birthdate)
  • Reason for the change: add text here (e.g. incorrect information)
  • References supporting change: add url (you can also format it according to the {{cite web}} template)
~~~~
The requested edits backlog is high, though, so it could be a while before the edit is implemented. If an edit and its source is completely uncontroversial and neutral, you can add it yourself even if you have a conflict of interest, but make sure to disclose that in the edit summary; it's easier to request that another editor make the edit, which should be straightforward if sourced.
Hope this helps! Perfect4th (talk) 04:13, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think her page is Public, but can I maybe attach the screenshot of it with her birthday date there and how? Anya Bay (talk) 03:28, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure that would qualify as an acceptable source for the biography of living person standards. Do you have another source you could use? Alternatively, you could check at the Teahouse if any editors there can see it and think it would qualify. Perfect4th (talk) 03:50, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have her ID saved unfortunately, can I submit the screenshot of her Facebook page with her date of birth, would that work? I am not sure where they got April 10th to begin with as it was always April 9th. Please help! I find it pretty difficult here to make changes. THANK YOU! Anya Bay (talk) 03:44, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect a screenshot would probably not be considered a reliable enough source to change it in the article on its own, though I'm not an expert in the area. You might get more informed input on sourcing if you bring it up on the article talk page (editors who are interested in the article keep an eye on edits and can more easily respond there).
I'm sorry about the difficulties you're having. Wikipedia is more strict about sourcing guidelines for people than other articles, but editing can feel daunting no matter what subject you're editing. I think you'll get the best input on the talk page for this issue, but please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions! Hope this helps, Perfect4th (talk) 04:20, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Perfect4th As for reliable sources, the 3 given in the Early Life section as for her DOB do not even mention a DOB, so is there even a source for the current date listed? I browsed the first 10 or so references and none have a date, or I over looked it. EDIT: I just realized that you were not involved in the topic, pardon me. I'll shift to the talk page. Strangerpete (talk) 16:56, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Strangerpete: I don't see any, but when I search for the DOB I get several hits for April 10, though they may not be reliable and could have been copied from Wikipedia. Perfect4th (talk) 17:02, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I can ask her Mom send me the copy of her passport, would that be a reliable source, I hope?:) Just let me know how I can submit the photo. Anya Bay (talk) 23:05, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It should be a good source, but I must confess I have no idea how it would be cited; perhaps the folks at the reliable sources noticeboard would have thoughts on that. I've added a comment at the discussion Strangerpete started on the talk page here; you're welcome to contribute there, and other editors should be able to chime in there as well. Happy editing, Perfect4th (talk) 05:19, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
