Counter-Vandalism Unit in the Signpost

The WikiProject Report would like to focus on the Counter-Vandalism Unit for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions, so be sure to sign your answers. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 04:49, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

CVUA

Hi Achowat, do all the instructors know about the CVUA Q&A page? and have it watchlisted if possible?
P.S. i left a reply at the enrollment page. benzband (talk) 18:42, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

The "Original Instructors" were all told, as is any new instructor who signs up. Achowat (talk) 18:43, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
Okay, thanks :) benzband (talk) 17:58, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Delivery Successful

Hello, this is an automated message to inform you that your message delivery request (Boston Wiknic) was completed successfully (see contributions). Happy editing!

Delivered by MessageDeliveryBot at 20:00, 29 May 2012 (UTC).

Seems as if the bot skipped over some recipients. Sorry for the problem, hopefully there a list of people which you can use to send the others 'Boston Wikinic', It skipped from D to W; however, we are trying to fix the problem with the bot. I will approve the message if you would reenter the message and confirm it. Thanks! Happy editing, Nascar1996(TalkContribs) 20:04, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Could you be more specific as to who it skipped. Was it everyone from D through W? Achowat (talk) 20:05, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
Yes. The bot stopped after Dylan620 and restarted at Wcquidditch. -- Nascar1996(TalkContribs) 20:06, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
That list took me a while to compile. Expect a new request sometime between 8 and 18 hours from now. Achowat (talk) 20:09, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

CVUA

Hi! Thanks for graduating me from the academy. Even though I spent very little time there, I enjoyed being able to have an experienced user to ask my vandalism questions to. I think that the CVUA Academy is a great thing and I would like to eventually become an instructor there. I'm about 25 edits shy of the 1,500 mark. I have Regents and Finals (I'm in New York) that I'm studying for, but after that, I would love to help other users fight vandalism. I use rollback, Twinkle, and STiki. If you would like to take me up on it, please let me know. Thanks! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 23:07, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)Hi Electric, no one asks if you would like to be an instructor. If you would like to be bold and add yourself to the list :) Dan653 (talk) 00:09, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
What Dan said. Generally new instructors just take on one student at a time, with more experienced instructors stalking the relevant pages just to make sure everything is hunky-dory. The Academy needs more instructors like you...let me know how your finals go and when we can expect to add you to our ranks. Achowat (talk) 12:34, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for the complement! I added myself as an instructor, but I will not be available to train students until the 19th (When my Finals and Regents end). I am currently studying, so between now and the 19th, I will only be on Wikipedia for an hour or less a night. Thank You! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 23:17, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Errors In Message Delivery

Hello, this is an automated message to inform you that although most messages were delivered (see contributions) some errors were encountered while processing your delivery request (Boston Wiknic). Please deliver the messages to the following users manually, if you wish, because the bot was not allowed to do so:

Dash it all, I've joined you...

I decided to do something big for my little 1K-Birthday, and although I added the "edit counts mean nothing" userbox, I still thought I should celebrate .. and so I added myself as an instructor on the WP:CVUA! Rather ironic, but it seems like several of your other old students followed the same path. Just letting you know that I'm there now - we'll see what comes of it, if and when you get some more enrollees... It's okay for me to add the talk page invite template to anyone who meets the criteria, right? Just checking. - If and when you reply, kindly leave me a TB, as my watchlist is rather bloated lately. :) Theopolisme TALK 05:35, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Graphics Lab reply

Hello, Achowat. A reply to your request at the Illustration workshop has been made.
If you are satisfied, please copy/paste the following code and add it to your request: {{resolved|1=~~~~}}
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{GL Illustration reply}} template.

Done. And btw the academy is great work. Keep it up. :) Roshan220195 (talk) 14:44, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey Acho, I just looked at the graphics and they look great. Good idea! Dan653 (talk) 17:53, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Wow

Our Academy results are so great I just noticed that one of your students has gone interwiki (I have too, but before the Academy started)! [1] Thought you would be interested. Dan653 (talk) 17:56, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Jamison

I think Electric marked Jamison as taken too soon: User_talk:Tarheel95#CVU_Academy. Also see Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism_Unit/Academy/Status and note Jamison is not on there. Dan653 (talk) 20:18, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Okay, I'll put Jamison Lofthouse under Tarheel95's students. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 23:14, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Approve? Less than a month experience. Dan653 (talk) 01:56, 4 June 2012 (UTC) P.S. Did you sleep all day sunday? :P

1. Judging by the user's contributions, it seems s/he understands the ins and outs of editing enough that time experience isn't a concern to me. We don't want to have to teach people how to use Wiki, that's the point of the time/edit count. I see no problem approving.
2. This Sunday, as it turns out, yes I did sleep all day. I'm a Cub Scout leader and my boys and I went camping. I'm still sore, but que sera sera. Achowat (talk) 12:33, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Well he's yours or Irish's. Dan653 (talk) 20:12, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Achowat! I sent Hahc21 (talk · contribs) an enrollment template after his RfR was denied. He enrolled and I accepted him as my student. We both have finals and are doing this in our spare time. I had him read WP: VANDAL and answer some questions on it. What should a CVUA Instructor teach his students? Thanks! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 23:28, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi! Darth Molo (talk · contribs) applied to the CVUA after you sent him an invitation. He only has 92 edits and his account is less than a month old. However, he seems to know what he is doing in terms of CSD tagging and Reverting Vandalism. Can I please have a second opinion? Thanks! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 21:46, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

We always refer to you if there's any question about anything... So we can have someone to blame. XD (PS You would actually be our third opinion, since first I asked for one, then Electriccatfish2 asked you for one... 1+1+1=3, assuming I haven't forgotten everything over the summer break... Ah, but I digress) Theopolisme TALK 21:53, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I'll be opinion three :P While the user does seem to know about vandalism I would like to wait a little to make sure he knows generally how to edit ie. wikimarkup. I'll move him to inactive requests for a few days and then move him back up. I will also drop him a note on his talk. Dan653 (talk) 22:34, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
Okay, great! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 00:58, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

CVUA

Hey, you looking for any instructors? I would like to get back involved with the programme! --Chip123456 (talk) 06:46, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

The more the merrier! We'd love to have you aboard. Achowat (talk) 12:32, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Miss me?

Well, did ya? MrLittleIrish (talk) 16:23, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Yeah, where'd ya go, it would be nice to give some notice. Also could you take the inactive request once he's approved? Dan653 (talk) 16:38, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
Making note that he's approved whenever you decide to take him. A little chicken-egg sort of a thing. And of course I've missed you. Achowat (talk) 17:14, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism_Unit/Academy/Enroll#Active_Requests_to_Enroll and I contacted Dennis Brown as per Adjwilley, User_talk:Dennis_Brown#Counter_Vandalism_Unit_Academy. Also, User_talk:The_Blade_of_the_Northern_Lights#User:Scott_Delaney. What do you think? Dan653 (talk) 03:03, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Also Found User_talk:Dennis_Brown#User:Scottdelaney1067_once_again, User_talk:Dennis_Brown/Archive_2012b#Scottdelaney1067_again, User_talk:Dennis_Brown/Archive_2012#User_Scottdelaney1067, they are in backwards chronological order so start with "1067", then "again", and then "once again". Dan653 (talk) 03:09, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Any comments? Dan653 (talk) 21:05, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
I need your opinion now! Wikipedia:AN#Disruptive_Editing_.28CIR_issue_with.29_User:Scott_Delaney. Dan653 (talk) 16:33, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
I always have the tough job. Anyway, I've given Scott a final warning and if he continues I will support a (possibly indefinite) block. Hopefully, that won't happen, we don't want to 'expel' anyone from the academy. --Chip123456 (talk) 19:52, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, Scott seems to be our first reprehensible editor and we might have to give him the {{cross}}. If you look at my comments on AN, I would like you to work with him and see if he is redeemable, and if not let me know and we'll ☒N him. Dan653 (talk) 20:19, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
I've already given him a final warning and I have commented on AN. It's disappointing. I've come back to see my student has had several complaints and an AN notice, can it get any worse.....--Chip123456 (talk) 20:33, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
Okay in Achowat's abcense I'm giving him a ☒N. Can you let your student know that due to recent events, like the AN he has been dropped. I'll let the AN know. Dan653 (talk) 20:38, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
I will let him know, but are you sure that's the right decision? --Chip123456 (talk) 20:47, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
What do you propose? Dan653 (talk) 20:48, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
Probably a Temporary 'exclusion' from the academy until the AN stuff has calmed down. I don't want to just 'get rid' of him. I can take a bit of heat, for the meanwhile and I'm assuming good faith that everything will get better. Can I see this user getting RB rights anytime soon, no but I can see him getting the basic idea on vandalism and how to use twinkle correctly. Letting him go would be the worst thing, in my eyes. --Chip123456 (talk) 20:53, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
Okay, but I don't see how temporary exclusion would work, its not written about in the academy anywhere. AGGGHHH Acho this is the third day of this, can you give advice, a word, a something??? Dan653 (talk) 21:00, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Ignore whatever it says. If we don't help this user, the situation will get worse. Happy thoughts, Dan! --Chip123456 (talk) 21:02, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

On reflection of my comment, if he does persist we would have no choice, but we are better off temporarily not having him in the academy, instead of permanent, so he can learn again when deemed appropriate. I'm determined to get a good user out of this one. --Chip123456 (talk) 21:09, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
The Academy was designed for Users "in good standing" to learn this specific skill. If he were my student, I would suggest Adoption from a more experienced user, if "good faith" can still be assumed. Since the CVUA can be seen as a path to learning about an advanced permission, it seems inappropriate for this user. Just my $.02, however. Achowat (talk) 08:49, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
Are you suggesting he leaves the academy and goes into WP:AAU?--Chip123456 (talk) 09:16, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
I think we should direct him there, yeah. These are bigger issues than we should be dealing with. Achowat (talk) 19:37, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
So, is he still a member if the academy...or not? Shall we wait for a response from him? .--Chip123456 (talk) 19:49, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
If he agrees to seek adoption, propose it as an "alternate" to CVUA, and then remove him once he gets adopted. Achowat (talk) 20:11, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
It would definitely be better and then he could come back when ready. Although, ATM, one if the Sysops over at AN are edging closer to a block, which I'm slowly starting to agree with IF he breaks his final warning. I'm a crap instructor, my first student is edging closer to an indefinite block, and has been given a final warning....by me! Sorry, Acho. --Chip123456 (talk) 20:21, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
Chip and Acho I'll close this out and let all the involved parties know, and Chip you're not a bad teacher. You just had a really bad student, don't despair I'm sure you'll be a great instructor. Dan653 (talk) 20:38, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
Chip, you are not allowed, not even a little, to blame yourself for anything that you didn't, personally, do. WP:CIR, and it's hard to tell. Chip up . 10:55, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Another Student

Thanks guys! Let me know when (if) you want me to take on another.--Chip123456 (talk) 16:09, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

As soon as possible!! Achowat (talk) 16:10, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Would you like me to take one of User:One Tenths students. I have had interactions with one of them (not that long ago). One Tenth is only new himself. --Chip123456 (talk) 16:27, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
I've had good interactions with Vert (I have been explaining WP:AFD NAC's to them) and would be happy to help.--Chip123456 (talk) 16:35, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
That seems good. 1/10th hasn't contacted them and I've dropped a note on his Talk Page hoping to drum up a conversation with hir. I see no issue with you "poaching" hir students. Achowat (talk) 17:10, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Ok, I will 'poach' and inform the user. --Chip123456 (talk) 17:21, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
