Vandalism warnings[edit]

Hey, FYI, when you revert obvious vandalism like this where it's clear that the person knew they were being disruptive, you may want to use a level 2 warning instead of starting with a level 1. Natureium (talk) 18:32, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tip, Natureium. I saw something to that effect somewhere, but I wasn't sure exactly how egregious the vandalism had to be. I'll keep that in mind. aboideautalk 18:40, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Diamonds are not rare on earth[edit]

Can you wiki-search the article on diamonds and edit the one (about diamomds raining on neptune) that states that diamonds are rare on Earth? Thats false. That's outdated info.....the WIKIPEDIA article about diamonds contradicts the FIRST sentence of the article that talking about how diamonds rain down on Neptune.... Thats embarssing, come on.

DwightFAAALSE (talk) 01:44, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi DwightFAAALSE, actually the Wikipedia article on diamonds does state that they are rare, here. I understand your frustration, but Wikipedia articles have to be based on reliable sources, not our opinions. aboideautalk 14:54, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Tamilisai Soundararajan[edit]

I deleted the ESP request, including your reply, at Tamilisai Soundararajan because she has been repeatedly renamed Dumilisai Soundararajan on Wikipedia by "BJP haters" see this news report about this. Although that report was October 2017, the trolls are still trying to create trouble, which we need to stamp on. You weren't to know this, and thanks for your efforts - Arjayay (talk) 18:49, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Removing semi-protection edit requests[edit]

Hi, just curious, why did you edit the talk pages of Talk:Cattle and Talk:Trump today to remove semi-protection edit requests from them? It's not really in our purview as editors to delete content from article talk pages as far as I understand policy. Unless, maybe if it is our own content. Yes, I have Cattle on my Watchlist so I get a notification of every edit. I am hoping you have a WP:Goodfaith reason. dawnleelynn(talk) 23:59, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dawnleelynn, they appeared to be trolling, especially given the request on Trump, and as I understand it, it's within policy to remove unconstructive edit requests. Perhaps I misread, however, would you like me to self-revert and decline them? aboideautalk 00:04, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for getting back to me so quick. I think you mean within policy to remove protection requests? Let me research a bit, don't do anything right away. I'm glad you had good intentions...thanks! dawnleelynn(talk) 00:11, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, here's the policy you want to read about talk page guidelines Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Go down to where it says: "Editing others' comments". You'll find that it is actually quite strict about when you do anything with other's comments. Read "Removing harmful posts" which is the only time it is permitted, and then it's pretty borderline too.
But I wouldn't worry about the two you already did. I'm not going to. It's not huge deal as they were unconstructive. Happy editing! dawnleelynn(talk) 00:26, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks dawnleelynn, I'll keep that in mind from now on : ). aboideautalk 00:35, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

March 2019[edit]

Hi Aboideau. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! GABgab 19:55, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sources needed for Days of the Year pages[edit]

I see you recently accepted a pending change to June 27 that did not include a direct source.

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages are no longer exempt from WP:V and direct sources are required for additions. For details see the content guideline and the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide. I've gone ahead and un-accepted this edit and backed it out.

All the pages in the Days of the Year project have had pending changes protection turned on to prevent vandalism and further addition of entries without direct sources. As a pending changes patroller, please do not accept additions to day of year pages where no direct source has been provided on that day of year page. The burden to provide sources for additions to these pages is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages. Thank you. Toddst1 (talk) 16:59, 9 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

NPR is quite challenging and needs an almost admin level knowledge of notability criteria and deletion policy, but judgement calls are easier. Since I created the user right, nearly 700 users have applied for it but this is misleading, only about 40 are truly active and we now have a staggering backlog of around 8,000 articles in the queue. You can start by reading the page at WP:NPP and its other curation tutorials, and looking at the Special:NewPagesFeed to see what it looks like. It's a lot to learn but perhaps in a month or so I will be able to accord you the user right directly without you needing to go through WP:PERM. Let me know when you think you are ready. Hi Christina, thanks for your message. First of all, you would need to see if there are sources for this change (right now, I only see this one, is this a temporary change?). Then, you could start a discussion on the article's talk page, to see if other editors think the page should be moved (generally, the name used in the article should reflect the article's title), after which you would be able to reinstate your edit. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me -- no one wants to "obstruct" you in any way, we just want the article to be accurate . aboideautalk 00:48, 16 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, I would strongly suggest you follow the procedure detailed here instead of continuing to add content directly to the article. aboideautalk 15:40, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks![edit]

Just wanted to say thank you for reverting that vandal on my talk page. It's never good to come back to revert notifications on my talk page. Appreciate your help! -- LuK3 (Talk) 17:27, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! aboideautalk 12:46, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to help?[edit]

Hi there, thanks for dropping by to welcome me to the club! A particular interest of mine is helping people who are writing in English as there second (or sometimes third!) language. If you have any advice on how best to direct that help to contributors who most need it, that would be much appreciated. Perry Pat Etic Poleaxe (talk) 14:22, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Perry Pat Etic Poleaxe! Generally, you just come across people that need help -- I don't really know of any places I can direct you for that. I do know that short India-related articles (like this one) are sometimes in need of cleanup, as the people who edit them don't always have English as their first language. That's not really what you were asking about, though -- I'll have to look around and see if I can find something that better answers your question. aboideautalk 15:10, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's still helpful, so thanks for replying. Maybe I should just check in regularly and see what comes up! Perry Pat Etic Poleaxe (talk) 11:24, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, feel free to stop by anytime . aboideautalk 16:59, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wiko[edit]

Thanks for the revert on Wiko. I was attempting to get the right version before the vandalism but apparently you beat me to it. :) Mr Xaero ☎️ 16:24, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! We must have both seen it at the same time -- I first tried to revert that last edit but edit-conflicted with you . aboideautalk 17:15, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Would [1] count as a reliable source for Jim Rome's date of birth as October 14? I'm not the editor who added the content, but I was trying to check if it was accurate and verifiable. Clovermoss (talk) 17:19, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Clovermoss: It looks like it should be good to me, but I don't really know much about which sources are reliable. You might want to check with someone more experienced if you're in doubt. aboideautalk 17:37, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's reliable. I'll add it, citing a source. If anyone objects, it can be discussed on the article's talk page. Clovermoss (talk) 17:41, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Thank you for taking the time to look for a source! aboideautalk 17:56, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! Also, since there was an edit conflict, here's what I had written: I'd also like to thank you for your input. Looking at what I just wrote, I may have been a bit blunt. I was asking because I cared about your opinion, and thought you might like to know about an edit being re-instated (but with a source). I hope you have a good day, and I appreciate that you took the time to reply to me. Clovermoss (talk) 18:01, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I did really appreciate your note, and I hope you have a good day as well. aboideautalk 19:54, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

dyk hacks[edit]

Hey, Aboideau! Nice article! In case you decide you like doing DYKs, one thing that will ease your path is to just give every sentence a citation as you're creating, even if the following sentence gets the same one. That way whatever you come up with for a hook, the assertions in the article that support it (which is required at the sentence level by DYK) will already contain the citation, and you won't have to go find it again to insert it there. :) I also add multiple citations for each assertion as I find them in additional sources, so I can assess which one is the most reliable, again a habit I developed out of doing DYKs but one that's turned out to be great for general article writing too, as it helps when I'm moving stuff from body to lead later on, too! I'm looking forward to seeing how many views it gets. I'm not very good at guessing -- apparently few other people are interested in the things that most interest me, lol! --valereee (talk) 18:21, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Valereee, thanks for the tip! I'll try to do that in future, as I do hope to do more DYKs. Thank you for walking me through the process Friday; I don't know a lot about writing content yet (obviously), and your friendly assistance with improving the DYK and the article was very helpful. I'm also looking forward to seeing how many views it gets -- I know that I would click on it, but like you what interests me doesn't always interest other people. I guess everyone having different interests is what makes Wikipedia awesome, though. Thanks again! aboideautalk 18:00, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
