Keith Lockhart (Conductor) (born November 7, 1959) is an American conductor who is best known for being the Music Director of the Boston Pops Orchestra Lockhart replaced John Williams as Music Directof for the Boston Pops in February 1995. In addition to being the current Music Director of the Boston Pops Orchestra he was also the Music Director of the Utah Symphony from 1998 - 2009.
Life[edit]
Keith Lockhart was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on November 7, 1959. He is the son of Newton Frederick and Marilyn Jean (Woodyard) Lockhart, both computer technicians, Lockhart has one sibling. Lockhart graduated in 1981 from Furman University with a double major, German and piano performance. He then went on to get a master's degree in orchestral conducting from Carnegie-Mellon University.
Lockhart married his college sweetheart, Ann Louise Heatherington, after he graduated from Furman University. Ann and Keith divorced two years later. During his tenure as Music Director for the Boston Pops Orchestra Lockhart married and then later divorced Boston Symphony Orchestra violinist Lucia Lin.[1]
Career[edit]
In 1990 he was hired as assistant conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Later he would say this was his first real professional opportunity with a major symphony orchestra. Beginning in the fall of 1992, he served as associate conductor of both the Cincinnati Symphony and the Cincinnati Pops orchestras, as well as music director of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, a position he held until 1998.http://www.musicianguide.com/biographies/1608003213/Keith-Lockhart.html
In 2002, he led the Boston Pops in the pre-game show of Super Bowl XXXVI at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, marking the first time an orchestra was featured in performance during a Super Bowl. That same year he also he led the Utah Symphony as part of the Opening Exercises of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City..[2]
In August of 2010 Lockhart became BBC Concert Orchestra's seventh Principal Conductor.[3]

Lockhart received the Bob Hope Patriot award from the Congressional Metal Of Honor Sociecty in 2006.[4]
