The Accident at the Perus station, refers to the disaster that occurred on July 28, 2000, at the Perus Station of the Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos, district of Perus, in the north zone of São Paulo, which led to the death of nine people and left 115 injured.

Historic[edit]

At 9:15 pm (BRT) on Friday, July 28, 2000, a series train 1100, coming from Jaraguá to Francisco Morato, parked at the Perus Station due to a lack of power. Another composition of the 1700 series (nº 127), which was parked on the same track for the same reason and which had already been emptied, lost its brakes on a downhill stretch, traveled 5.5 kilometers in eight minutes and collided with the parked train. at Peru station. The accident left nine dead and 115 injured and destroyed Perus station.

Conclusions[edit]

CPTM knew since 1995 that the train was not parked on downhill slopes, however, in its internal investigation, it blamed the train driver who lost the brakes due to the accident, saying that he should have "shod" the train, "a negligence comparable to that of the driver who runs a red light", according to CPTM. According to the Civil Police, there was a succession of failures that culminated in the accident

Perus Station was reopened three days later, without charging a fee, because "it did not have the conditions for it", according to the secretary of metropolitan transport at the time, Claudio de Senna Frederico. The station was gradually renovated and the situation returned to normal over the days.

In 2012, CPTM was ordered by the court to pay compensation to victims who were injured and to the relatives of those killed in the accident.
