Accidents include:
Switzerland[edit]
- 2008 at Allinges level crossing over French border - 7 killed
Crash[edit]
- Stein-Saeckingen 1991 - 8 tank cars derailed
Kerang Trial[edit]
- Driver doing unsafe speed (100km/h) [18]
- From 180 metres they don't grab your attention. [19]
The accident occurred in bright sunshine and the truck was travelling more or less due north into the sun. Glare off the road would have been a problem.
The lights were alleged to be hard to see.
The speed limited truck (100km/h) was travelling at 120km/h!? Trucks without speed limiters have a speed limit of 90km/h. The road speed limit for cars would be 110km/h.
Another truck driver Scott said that the lights were visible 100m away. (What is braking distance for truck from 100km/h and 120km/h)?
Apparently the railway timetable had changed. So what! You are supposed to lookout at the flashing lights. [20]
Scott said that trees obscured the view of the southbound train. So what! You are supposed to lookout at the flashing lights. [21]
Scholl: "I didn't see it!". [22]. What? The train or the flashing lights!?. What was truck driver Scholl looking out for? At a level crossing with flashing lights, forget the train, look out for the flashing lights.
Level Crossing Bulletin [25] Tabletop (talk) 03:20, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
"Truck industry want trains to be more visible." (What about flashing lights to be more visible)" [26]
Audit says [incandescent] lights not noticable enough. [27]
V/line concerned that locals unaware of new timetable. [28]
