Hello! I am a student currently living in the Pacific Northwest. However, I am an Arizonian at heart and love the sun. I have added a link to the sun because we don't seem to see that much around here. Right now I am working towards getting my Associates in Applied Sciences so that I can go on to become a Missionary Nurse. Becoming a nurse has always been a dream of mine because I love working with people. The missionary part came from my desire to travel and faith in God. Growing up I have always loved theater and acting, and was recently able to Stage Manage my first show. In addition to theatre, I enjoy being outdoors and going on adventures such as hiking, rock climbing, and rappelling.
Article Critique[edit]
I visited the Arts centre page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: it’s lack of references and citations, linking problems, and it’s lack of historic information.
References and Citations[edit]
Simply glancing over the page for the first time I noticed that there was only one citation in the whole article. The singular citation was referencing a quote inside of a book which I had no way of researching further without ordering the book or checking it out in the library. Therefore, assuring the authenticity of this citation is difficult. This concerned me because there are multiple statements presented as facts and I was unsure if they were all found in this one book. If not, then they were presented as facts without allowing any way to discover where these "facts" were first stated. Also, if all the information is relying on one citation, that does not give me much confidence in the accuracy of this knowledge.
Linking Problems[edit]
While the article links a few arts centres in the United States, Europe, and Asia, quite a few of these links were no longer working. Rebooting these dead links would be a very simple fix. In addition, Chicago, Illinois had four links while all of the Middle East had two.
Lack of Historic Information[edit]
After stating the basic function of the page's subject, the author jumps into a very brief statement of how arts centres began in Britain after World War II without giving an explanation of how or why. It would be helpful for there to be more information on the circumstances that brought about the creation of these centres. There are absolutely no facts on how their rise in popularity came to be or how they were adopted worldwide. In the article, a comment is made on how accessibility was greatly implemented in the 1980's, however, there is no greater explanation than that of who the accessibility was geared towards. There are no references to laws or program guidelines.
Summary[edit]
While this article gave me a basic knowledge of Arts centres, I was mostly left confused by what I was reading. Hopefully, all of the suggestions stated here are relatively simple to implement and would greatly improve the quality of the page.
