Christian McLeish (born April 24, 2001) known by his gamertag Salty, is a professional Super Smash Bros. Melee electronic sports player from Calgary, Alberta, and is currently sponsored by Team Perennial. McLeish primarily plays Marth and Falco, although he began his competitive career as a Yoshi main. McLeish is currently considered one of the best uprising Marth and Falco player in the world, along with a couple other upcoming competitors. McLeish is known for his strong mental game and ability to adapt. He also plays Project M in tournaments, utilizing both of his Melee mains, Marth and Falco.

McLeish has also begun playing League of Legends as of the 2016 Spring Split in the TGM World League. Upon Hoha injuring himself on VapourX, McLeish signed a renewal contract allowing him to play as the substitute mid for the remainder of the regular season, with February 14, 2016 being his LCS regular season debut. TGM's GreatGhost also injured himself just before the playoffs begun, so Team Perennial gave the rights of McLeish to TGM in order for him to participate as the mid laner in the playoffs. Salty is currently signed as Team Perennial's starter ADC for the 2016 Summer Split. Salty ended up recording record highs, with his team placing first with an undefeated season.

Career[edit]

Rise to fame[edit]

McLeish entered the smash scene by picking up Super Smash Bros. Brawl at an early date. After learning a lot of simple mechanics that could win him the game, he went on to become a top competitor around his hometown, alongside his brother, Matthew Campo. The two were best known as 'the brotherly rivalry' around the city, and their matches often ended with McLeish being beat 3-0 against his brother in finals. Although McLeish couldn't beat his brother, he was able to outplay several of the top Brawl players in his country, earning him a spot at the top of the list for best players.

Project M[edit]

In mid 2014, McLeish picked up the popular Brawl modification, Project M. He quickly became a top competitor just through being able to have a quick punish game and being able to throw players around when needed to. Eventually, Salty began to learn more advanced tech moves making him an even bigger threat in areas around the world that have never experienced his style of gameplay in person. He was also well known for using characters many thought were incapable of being played on an advanced level. However, Salty's gameplay inspired many other players to switch mains and pick up characters previously thought to be useless. An example of this would be Roy.

In January 2015, Salty entered a Project M tournament in which he didn't make it out of pools.[1] Since then, Salty has only attended one Project M tournament in which he got first place.[2] McLeish has not been seen at a Project M tournament since and is assumed that he retired from the game.

Melee[edit]

After losing at Salt Flats 3 in 2015, Salty decided to pick up an old game that he didn't touch since his child hood, Super Smash Bros. Melee. With his previous tech skill knowledge from Project M, Christian quickly adapted to many players play styles and began to created a name of his own. He is well known for his fast reads and his ability to show off and embarrass his opponents.

As of September 2015, Salty is yet to not place in a single Melee tournament and to place under 2nd.

Salty said that his 2016 goal is to play in more Super Smash Bros. Melee tournaments, and to donate half of his winnings to the Child's Play Charity. He is planning to attend the YYC Winter Open 2016 tournament and Salt Flats 4 later on in the year.

MOBA Games[edit]

In late July 2015, Salty announced that he was going to learn how to play League of Legends after watching Cloud9's Hai play the game.

On August 23, 2015, Salty announced that he was going to captain the new Vainglory division of VapourX Snapdragon. On August 26, VapourX announced on their twitter that Salty would lead the team for season one of VGL. However, on September 3, 2015, it was announced that the teams application was denied. On October 12, he announced that he would drop down from the lane position in order to focus more on school and other games.

On February 14, 2016, Salty made his first career regular season debut in the LCS with VapourX upon being called up by the team as the substitute mid laner. He played with the team until February 27, 2016 when Hoha was finally able to return full-time to the roster. Due to how the contract had to be developed, Salty was required to be the benched mid laner until the end of the regular season. On April 2, 2016, TGM announced that GreatGhost would be unable to make it to the semifinals and possibly finals of the Spring Split playoffs. Once again, Salty was called upon, and Perennial (along with Riot) reached a contract agreement allowing Salty to be placed on the eligible TGM roster for playoffs only. This caused some controversy as Salty played for VapourX in the regular season, however, the rules in section 3.14 state that, "...IF a player is called upon from free agents as a substitute, they are NOT required to stay with the same team for playoffs and are eligible to play for another team in the playoffs."

Personal life[edit]

McLeish is currently in high school at Bishop O'Byrne. McLeish says that his involvement in gaming kept him out of depression and gave him something to look forward to everyday. Salty currently resides in Calgary, Alberta.
