A secret[edit]

I don't actually know what oyster sauce is. I don't know if it's a sauce made of oysters, or a sauce you eat alongside oysters, or if it has anything to do with oysters at all. I didn't check before I settled on oyster sauce as a moniker, and I'm curious to see how long I can go without finding out what oyster sauce actually is.

I like picturing it as a sauce the oysters make for themselves.

Regarding "cripple"[edit]

Part of my contribution to Wikipedia has been changing instances of the word "crippled" or "crippling" to other words like "devastated" or "debilitating". The word "cripple" and its variants are used relatively often in some people's prose, particularly when discussing economies and mental health. However, it is inappropriate in both cases and contributes negatively to Wikipedia as a project.

Economies, being intangible constructs, cannot become physically disabled as they do not have physical bodies with which to experience disability.[citation needed] Thus, statements such as "local economies were crippled following the storm" or "the imposed sanctions were intended to cripple [country]'s economy" are using metaphor to indicate overwhelming dysfunction and failure by equating these concepts with physical disability. This builds or reinforces a reader's biases against disabled people. Neutral prose would describe the dysfunction or failure of the economy in question using clear, concise language and ideally of how the relevant economy was affected

The use of "crippled" and its variants is slightly more nuanced when referring to poor mental health, as psychosomatic symptoms can indeed cause a person to experience physical disability or reduced mobility. However, regardless of origin it is inappropriate and offensive to[1][2]
