March 4:Public health officials in Fort Bend Countyreported a presumptive positive test result in a man in his 70s who had recently traveled outside the United States. The man was hospitalized in stable condition. The new case was the first in Texas outside of US nationals evacuated from Hubei Province and the Diamond Princesscruise ship to Joint Base San Antonio in January 2020.[1][2]

March 5:Public health officials in Houston reported two confirmed cases in a man and a woman from northwest Harris County. Both cases are related to recent travel to Egypt.[3]In the evening, an additional two cases, a man and a woman, were reported from Harris County also from the same travel group to Egypt. The woman is a staff member at Rice University.[4]

March 6:Three new cases were reported, one in Houstonand two in Fort Bend County. All cases were part of a group that had traveled together to Egypt. This brought the Texas cases to 8, all in the Houston region.[5][6]On March 9, Collin Countyreported 3 new presumptive cases.[7]The patients were a married couple and their 3-year-old child who attended Frisco ISD. The man tested positive for the virus after visiting Silicon Valleyin late February.[8]

March 10:Dallas Countyand Tarrant Countyboth announced one presumptive case in each county, respectively.[9]On March 11, Houstonmayor Sylvester Turnerannounced cancellation of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeoafter declaring the outbreak as a public health emergency.[10]The first possible case of community spread was announced the same day, in a patient who had not traveled out of the state.[11]Lakewood Churchin Houston, one of the nation's biggest mega-churches announced it was canceling in-person services till further notice.[12]On March 12, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkinsannounced five additional positive cases with one of the cases being the first instance of community spread in the North Texasarea.[13]A day later, the cities of Austin, San Antonio, and Tyler, as well as Belland Galvestoncounties, announced confirmed cases. San Antonio also announced a ban of gatherings of 500 or more.[14]
