Scientific[edit]

The 3344 Peachtree structure represents an efficient use of materials as can be deduced from its design. The shear walls and moment frames comprise the lateral load resisting system. The linkage of the shear walls to the perimeter columns at two levels reduces the core’s slenderness, which results in the use of fewer materials.[1] The office space consists of a long span beam and girder systems, allowing tenants to have flexibility with large column free space. The residential floors consist of two-way flat plate construction with more closely spaced columns. This allows the slabs to serve as the floor of one space and the ceiling of another, which minimizes floor-to-floor heights and thus saving material.[1] Drilled piers support the structure. Despite the height of the building the pier foundation did not require expensive rock anchors, as tension loads in the foundation were small enough. The small tension loads were the result of a carefully balanced structural system that fully utilized the entire building weight to counteract the overturning forces.[1]

Social[edit]

Constructed at a cost of about 250 million dollars the sovereign building represents a very economical structure in comparison with similar structures such as the Georgia Pacific Building, and one Atlantic Center. Not only is this building economical but also multifunctional which cuts down on time spent from home to work to dining. The multifunctional nature of the structure maximizes the space on which it is built on and also the time of it’s tenants.

Symbolic[edit]

Indeed the elegance of the sovereign building is unarguable as it’s combination of glass; steel and concrete is simply breathtaking. It's form is expressive of the lightness that is achieved in from the efficient use of materials. It easily represents Atlanta’s most amazing multifunctional building. It also represents Atlanta’s tallest multifunctional building and a captivating one for that matter.
