National Weather Service Gaylord is the National Weather Service office located in Gaylord, Michigan. The office serves 25 counties in its County Warning Area (CWA) across Northern Lower and Eastern Upper Michigan, and the coastal and portions of the open waters of Lakes Huron, Michigan, and Superior. Some cities inside of it's CWA include Traverse City, Petoskey, Alpena, Cheboygan, Sault Ste Marie, Cadillac, and Houghton Lake.

History[edit]

Before 1996, the area covered by the office today was originally covered by 4 other offices, one each in Alpena, Houghton Lake, Sault Ste. Marie, and Muskegon, in 1995, the office in Gaylord opened and functions for 3 of the offices were moved to the Gaylord location around 1999.[1]

The office is the only office co-located with a US Climate Reference Network Site (USCRN).[2] It is also well known for making a snowman every year when the first snowfall of the season occurs at the office.

NOAA Weather Radio stations[edit]

There are 6 NOAA weather radio stations in the CWA.
