The city was nearly destroyed during the siege of the city in 1352 by Peter the Cruel. At the time the city was commanded by the wife Juana Manuel Trastamara, half brother of Peter the Cruel.

Spanish Civil War & Franco (1930-1975)[edit]

Uprising, cut off from Republic, siege, National industry, population explosion.

After the Nationalist won Battle of El Mazuco on 22 September and were reinforced in Infiesto with troops moving north from León Gijón fell on 21 October.
