From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Colóns shown here were the first Unified WWE Tag Team Champions.

The Unified WWE Tag Team Championship is the term used to refer to the unified World Tag Team and WWE Tag Team professional wrestling championships. Both titles are owned by the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) professional wrestling promotion. The term first came into existence after WWE's WrestleMania XXV pay-per-view event. At the event, which was held on April 5, 2009, then-World Tag Team Champions John Morrison and The Miz were defeated by then-WWE Tag Team Champions The Colóns (Carlito and Primo) in a Lumberjack match to unify both titles.[1]

Being a professional wrestling championship, it was not won legitimately; it was instead won via a scripted ending to a match or awarded to a wrestler because of a storyline. All title changes occurred at WWE-promoted events. The inaugural champions were The Colóns, who defeated Johnn Morrison and The Miz on April 5, 2009 at WrestleMania XXV. The Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith) are the current champions in their first reign. Indivdually, Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith are both in their first reign. Overall, there have been 6 reigns shared between 10 wrestlers, which are made up 6 different teams.
