Methagu is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language Political Docudrama film directed by Ti. Kittu, which is crowd-funded. The film stars a fresh crew that includes Manikandan, Eshwar Basha, Madhunika Rajalakshmi, and Vinod Sagar (Ratchasan fame Inbaraj). [1]The storyline is loosely influenced from the life of Methagu Prabhakaran projecting his childhood to adulthood in the aftermath of India’s and Sri Lanka’s independence from British rule that happened in Valvettithurai.[2]

The Tamil word ‘Methagu’ means ‘his greatness’ in English. The film revolves around the life of V Prabhakaran. The release date for Methagu is set for May 21, 2021. However, the film’s release has been postponed again, as the date has also been postponed.[3]
The film features music composed by Praveen Kumar, cinematography handled by Riaz, and editing done by Si. Mu. Elangovan. It features the titular character Prabhakaran, hailing from a conservative background, fighting for the rights of his people. Velupillai Prabhakaran (; Tamil: வேலுப்பிள்ளை பிரபாகரன்; Tamil pronunciation: [ˈʋeːlɯpːiɭːaɪ pɾaˈbaːhaɾan], 26 November 1954 – 18 May 2009) was a Sri Lankan Tamil guerrilla and the founder and leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a militant organization that sought to create an independent Tamil state in the north and east of Sri Lanka.[4] The LTTE waged war in Sri Lanka for more than 25 years, to create an independent state for the Sri Lankan Tamil people.
Prabhakaran was the youngest of four children, born in Valvettithurai, on Sri Lanka's Jaffna peninsula's northern coast. Considered the heart of Tamil culture and literature in Sri Lanka, Jaffna was concentrated with growing Tamil nationalism, which called for autonomy for Tamils to protest the discrimination against them by the Sinhalese-dominated Sri Lanka government and Sinhalese civilians since Sri Lanka gained independence from Britain in 1948.[5] Film talks about how he gained his senses on need for freedom of his Tamil people.
After a brief-long pre-production work, the film was launched in mid 2020s, with the title Methagu was also announced. The film is mostly set in rural parts of Tamil Nadu. Shooting of the film took place, following its launch, and was completed in December 2020; although production was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Film faced a lot of opposition. The film crew initially planned to release the film in theatres, but due to the COVID second wave the team decided to release in OTT. OTT platforms like Amazon Prime demanded for cuts and censors as it was a political flick against a nation (many wondering how they accepted Family Man), the film crew turned down the offer and proceeded to release the film in Blacksheep Digital's very own bsvalue OTT via Pay per view option.
