Veli Aine, art collector and businessman.

The Aine Art Museum is located in the city of Tornio. It is the city’s modern and contemporary art museum, and the centre of Visual Culture of the Tornio Valley. It was founded by the Aine Pictorial Art Foundation in 1974. The museum came together thanks to the effort of Veli Aine (1919-2008) and his wife Eila Aine (1920-2013) who had been collecting Lappish and Finnish works of art since the 1940s.[1] The building where the museum is located, together with the city library, is called Rajakartano “border mansion” and was designed by the architect Matti Porkka. It opened to the public on March 7, 1986 and it was inaugurated by the Finnish First Lady Tellervo Koivisto.

The permanent collection contains artworks from early 1800 to present days, with a focus on contemporary art from Northern Finland. The main exhibition changes on a yearly basis, with several temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
