Comments[edit]

I've created an NCAA Athlete infobox template based on the NBA Player infobox. I have a spurious pipe '|' which I cannot resolve. Any help would be appeciated.Pepto gecko 17:10, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I found the little bastard. All fixed now. --MECUtalk 13:50, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Mecu. I appreciate it very much!! Pepto gecko 16:48, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Additional lines needed...[edit]

Depending on the sport, it seems like the capability to store additional information needs to be in this. The main reason I make this request is for NCAA football players who play in bowls from year to year. Fuhreeus 18:19, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you be more specific in the lines you would like added?↔NMajdantalk 18:25, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bowl Game Year/Bowl Game Name. I'd guess that the best way to do this would be similar to the coaches infobox where they list years/coaching positions in separate attributes. Fuhreeus 18:38, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Added additional lines. Enjoy! Pepto gecko 04:47, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well done. Thanks. Fuhreeus 12:00, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Addition[edit]

Added Tournament/Tournament List parameters. Pepto gecko 15:38, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Help[edit]

I would like to revise the original image code to support a placeholder image vis-a-vis the Template:Infobox NFL player. Unfortunately, if I use the default NFL player code, it breaks existing images which use this template (Brandon Cox, for example. I've copied the original and the NFL Player template codes here:

Current
{{#if:{{{image|}}}| <tr><td colspan="2" padding: 1em 0em;"> [[Image:{{{image}}}|{{#if:{{{image_size|}}}|{{{image_size}}}|200x250}}px|center|{{{caption| }}}]] {{#if:{{{caption|}}}|<div style="font-size:smaller; text-align:center;">{{{caption}}}</div>}}</td></tr> }}

Desired Syntax (needs fix)

|- {{#if:{{{image<includeonly>|</includeonly>}}}| <!-- -->{{!}} colspan="2" style="text-align: center; border-bottom: 1px solid DimGray;" {{!}} [[Image:{{{Image<noinclude>|Placeholder.png</noinclude>}}}|{{{ImageWidth|200}}}px]]{{#if:{{{caption<includeonly>|</includeonly>}}}|<br/><small>''{{{caption}}}''</small>}} }}

I would appreciate any help. Pepto gecko 15:06, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're trying to do two different things there. You're telling it not to provide an image unless the user specifies one, but then you're giving it a placeholder image instead. Which do you want? -Amark moo! 15:47, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's working with the placeholder image now. I assume that is what you want? -Amark moo! 15:53, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, no it isn't, and I don't know why. Sorry. -Amark moo! 15:57, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This version seems to work, but is the problem that the images don't show up in an article page then? --MECUtalk 16:05, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The desired code is from the NFL Player template. It appears, the code adds the placeholder image only in the template page view to demonstrate how a image would look IF a user adds an image to their infobox usage. The existing code will work but doesn't offer the optimal usage display on the template page. Pepto gecko 16:11, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So, all you want is to add an "example" image to the template page, and leave the rest of the image code alone? --MECUtalk 16:19, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, sir! Pepto gecko 16:44, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How's that? --MECUtalk 16:50, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Beautiful! Many thanks and Semper Fi! Pepto gecko 17:02, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spurious Apostrophe[edit]

I've added an optional name parameter which allows the user to have an infobox heading different from the page name. Unfortunately, I've also introduced a spurious apostrophe which displays at the end of the infobox heading. Any assistance whould be appreciated! The code is below:

{{#if:{{{name|}}}|'''{{{name}}}'''|'''{{PAGENAME}}}}'''</font>
Pepto gecko 15:40, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comma or apostrophe? Such as the issue with Ronald Steele? Just want to make sure I'm looking at the right issue.↔NMajdantalk 15:44, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, Apostrophe. Perhaps my typing is the problem ;-) Pepto gecko 15:52, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. You had the end curly brackets for the {{#if: before the end bold apostrophes in the name.
Basically, it was {{#if:{{{name|}}}|'''{{{name}}}'''|'''{{PAGENAME}}}}'''
when it should have been {{#if:{{{name|}}}|'''{{{name}}}'''|'''{{PAGENAME}}'''}}.↔NMajdantalk 15:53, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, my friend. Your help is most appreciated! Pepto gecko 15:56, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, happy to help.↔NMajdantalk 15:59, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

color question[edit]

With Template:Infobox NFL player, users can add lines such as |Color=#FF0000 and |fontcolor=#FFFFFF to personalize each page's template. Why is it not possible with this template? 204.52.215.115

I'm not a fan of it, but it is possible. This template has those exact attributes.↔NMajdantalkEditorReview 20:44, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to edit this page and had trouble. 204.52.215.115
I agree with Nmajdan. The colors usually look rather garish on the NFL pages. Pepto gecko 22:08, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Empty fields[edit]

What do I need to use this template when I do not have the information for Height and/or Weight? —Wordbuilder 15:26, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you not look up the height and/or weight online? If they are an NCAA Athlete, chances are that there is information out thereFuhreeus 11:31, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this should be easy to attain for a current NCAA athlete.↔NMajdantalk 13:26, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You would think it would be easy but I've crapped out so far. I've got the article ready to go except that portion. The athlete is Sally Kipyego, a runner for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. If anyone can help me, I will be grateful. —Wordbuilder 13:47, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that you can put her in without height and weight. I do however, have a side question for you. Does she merit her own wiki bio entry instead of a blurb on the TT page? If so, why?Fuhreeus 14:23, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look at what happens when I leave those fields blank. Is she notable? I would say so. She has won multiple NCAA championships (1 of only 7 in history to win four individual track titles during a single season) and is the first Kenyan woman to win an NCAA cross country individual championship. —Wordbuilder 14:30, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Although I agree to a certain extent that she is the best at what she does, the fact remains that there isn't a single place anywhere to find her height and weight, I assume, even including TT's pages. That's why I question her notability. Most notable athletes have this sort of pertinent data readily available. That being said, it is only my opinion. Have you tried using something like "unknown"? Best of luck.Fuhreeus 15:04, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
With "unknown", it returns "Expression error: Unrecognised word 'unknown' ft Expression error: Unrecognised word 'unknown' in (Expression error: Unrecognised word 'uknown' m)". While I agree that height and weight are a nice fact to have, I don't think their absence automatically makes someone non-notable any more than their presence automatically makes someone notable. Thanks for your help. Sadly, it looks like this article may have to go ahead without an infobox until I can fill in the blanks for those fields. —Wordbuilder 15:59, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I slightly edited the template. Now, when the field is blank, the "Height" still appears, but instead of it saying {{{height}}}, it is blank. Take a look at your sandbox. Is this a sufficient temporary fix?↔NMajdantalk 16:15, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Beautiful! Thanks, NMajdan. Hopefully I'll soon be able to get the data in there; but in the meantime, this will work just fine. —Wordbuilder 16:28, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Former student-athletes[edit]

Can we change the template to work for former NCAA athletes? Currently the career field always says "YYYY - present". BuffaloChip97 (talk) 04:19, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it would be a great idea to expand the template to include former NCAA athletes; this would be especially helpful for athletes that never played professional and thus don't have any info box attached to their page. --Djrun (talk) 22:37, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It appears somebody already added the "career_end" parameter. I have added it to the example and documentation. What other change would be necessary?↔NMajdantalk 15:00, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image size[edit]

Resolved

I am having trouble resizing the main image at Evan Turner to the full width of the infobox.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 19:31, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have been able to make the proper changes, but I had to have someone from the help desk clarify the documentation.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 13:17, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

extra line[edit]

Hi. There is an extra line under championships, for example, on the Jon Scheyer page. I mentioned this to TonytheTiger, who directed me to the template people -- can someone address? Many thanks.--Epeefleche (talk) 23:46, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The problem also exists under honors. See Sherron Collins.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 18:15, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

class year[edit]

Would it be possible to find a template coding whiz to automatically update the class year (e.g. Freshman to Sophomore, etc.)? Gerardw (talk) 16:40, 15 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
