Suggestion[edit]

I recon we should move this page to {{Dublin clubs}} as in {{Kildare clubs}},{{Tyrone clubs}} and move {{Dublin clubs}} to {{Dublin clubs competitions}}(Gnevin 14:40, 5 February 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Move all. Jafeluv (talk) 12:00, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rename all to clarify that each of these templates in Category:Gaelic Athletic Association club navigational boxes is a navigational box relating to clubs of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in the given county of Ireland, rather to any other type of club in that county.
There are many other clubs in each of these counties, which are unrelated to the GAA. For example, in County Dublin: we have lots of articles on other sporting clubs such as 12 cricket clubs, 5 field hockey clubs, 25 rugby union clubs.
A lengthy set of recent discussions WikiProject Gaelic games about article and category naming conventions agreed that the word "GAA" should not be included in pages where it is not necessary for disambigaution. For example, it was was agreed that the titles of categories of people who have played on inter-county GAA teams should not have "GAA" inserted after the county name (e.g. we have Category:Dublin hurlers rather than Category:Dublin GAA hurlers), because hurling is always organised by the GAA, so the extra word is superfluous. However, in the case of these templates, the GAA context is unclear, and should be added to the title.--BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:31, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
* Note: This proposal affects 35 templates, but the RM process can include only 30 pages in each listing. I have listed the others at User:BrownHairedGirl/GAA club templates to be moved. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:38, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Notifications: I have notified WikiProject Gaelic games [1], WikiProject Ireland [2], and WikiProject Northern Ireland [3]. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 13:03, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Previous moves. Note that some of these templates were moved in September 2012 as uncontroversial technical requests. In each case the move stripped out the word "GAA", which I propose to add now. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 13:07, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: these templates are used exclusively in GAA articles so there is no possibility whatever of confusion with field hockey clubs, cricket clubs or any other clubs. They can be kept in their present concise form without any need for disambiguation. Brocach (talk) 14:30, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • Reply. I haven't checked where they are currently used, but they are probably only used in GAA articles. However, when a template is used in an article, its pagename is not displayed to readers; what is displayed is the value of a title= parameter in the template, which each case case says "Foo GAA clubs" (see for example Limerick GAA clubs, Tyrone GAA clubs, Dublin GAA clubs, Kerry GAA clubs, Derry GAA clubs, Laois GAA clubs). The proposed renaming will align the page title with the displayed title, in which the word GAA is necessary to define the scope of the template as relating only to the GAA (rather than the full range of sports in in that county).
The template pages themselves are usually viewed only only editors, and renaming them to include the word "GAA" also clarifies their scope for editors who might want to use them. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:04, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support The names are ambiguous and should be changed. It's as simple as that. --BDD (talk) 17:43, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support the way they are currently named means anyone can come along and expand them to include all clubs, not just GAA clubs, and they'd be right to do so, since there is no restriction in the name of the template, and any other template name for a general club nav would be wrong. -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 23:32, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support If they are intended solely as cats for GAA topics, that should be clear from the name. There is currently an ambiguity which needs to be addressed. RashersTierney (talk) 10:12, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Clearer and at the end of the day what odds does it make where the template sits Gnevin (talk) 15:16, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. If there is a template at the bottom of a Dublin GAA club article, it is useful to specify that it is about Dublin GAA and not about Dublin generally. Scolaire (talk) 15:25, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

More obscure clubs and underage clubs[edit]

There are quite a few clubs missing which have fielded teams at one stage or another.Financefactz (talk) 16:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
