    • A very interesting and well-written article. Mostly well-referenced, but I can't see a specific cite for the hook fact within refs [12] or [13]. (Although as a former Commodore Plus/4 and Amiga 1200 user, both of which had these ports, I have no doubt of its factual accuracy!) There are also some paragraphs in the "Description" and "Other platforms" sections which need to be referenced. I've put this review on my watchlist. The ALT1 hook is fully verified by online refs, so I'm happy for that to be used. I have struck the original hook accordingly. I would like to see citations for the following, either sentences or full paragraphs (I have abbreviated some), or alternatively rewriting (or perhaps moving the content to the Talk page) until sourcing can be found:
  • The Atari joystick port used a 9-pin male socket ... copying the plug design outright.
  • Driving games of the 1980s were generally top-down ... "right" and "left" instructions for the programmer.
  • These adaptors generally did not allow the analog inputs of the paddles to be used, in spite of the port already handling these inputs directly meaning all that was needed was a mechanical adaptor.
  • The BBC Micro had a relatively complex port system ... number and types of control devices they supported.
